Anyone think that Holcomb might actually be a possibilty? Philly has McNabb, Feely, Kolb, and Holcomb. One of those guys (Feely or Holcomb) is not going to make the squad and Andy Reid said yesterday that the #2 job is Feely's. I think Quinn needs a mentor and Holcomb has been around. Of course the big negative is that Holcomb has history and we might not want to deal with it.

Why, so he can teach Quinn how to stare down receivers? No thanks

I was thinking more film room and preparation, not throwing the ball.

Green is also a long shot, looks like he might get cut.

If we are going to bring someone in i'd like it to be Tim Rattay. I believe he's still a FA.

Tom Clements former coach with Bills and also former Notre Dame QB. I wanted him over Scherer from the start.

You know,, I have a bone to pick with Holcomb,, he was offered an opportunity to start here when Savage and RAC arrived,, instead, he took less money to go to Buffalo,,, I'll never understand it,,,,, so as far as I'm concerned,, I don't want him around...

If you are speaking of Trent Green from KC, Carl Peterson just was on ESPN and said that if a trade can't be worked out, then Trent would start for KC next season.. it's as simple as that.. So I don't know where you are getting this "he may get cut" info from...

The best thing for Brady was getting two years of Charlie Weiss in his ear. That type of experience, with an NFL offensive guru, could prove to be invaluable.

Plus, I'm sure Quinn will/can use Weiss as a resource to go over mechanics, film, etc. if he needs an extra voice in his ear, there aren't too many better then Charlie in asessing and critiquing QB's. I know we have coaches but having Charlie Weiss to fall back on every now and then obviously can't hurt.

Any NFL QB has one and only one agenda ... to play. None of these guys are going to want to come in here to "nurture" Brady.

Boss Lerner needs to send that private jet down to Miami every Saturday to pick up Bernie Kosar. Put Kosar on the sidelines, critiqueing the starter and passing on knowledge to whichever QB's are on the bench. Then on Monday, following a film session with all our QBs, jet him back to beautiful south Fla.

I know, some will say that would be an insult to, and would undermine Shearer and Chud. Tough rockos guys, get over it ... its not about egos, its about winning.

First off, I was thinking they would play for a year and then give way to Quinn.

Second off, I don't think thats true at all. There are plenty of veteran guys out there who aren't starters and never will be. They know it and the NFL knows it, but, they're in the league year after year.

But if they're "not starters and never will be", why do you want them mentoring your franchise QB?

Dave, we always hear that Kosar keeps getting an offer to do something with the Browns,, Never did hear if it was coach QB's, OC, Front Office.. (actually, we've heard all of those over the last year or so) But he keeps turning it down,,

I believe last time it was because of his reported personal issues with his wife that are causing him to stay in Florida... I guess he does own a home in Mantua or so I was told..

So, I think that he would to it and Randy would welcome him here, but issues in life keep getting in the way...

What are you talking about? 66 percent of the QBs in the league aren't starters. Mentoring is not about how good you are, its about how well you can prepare, improve, help the guy you are mentoring.

Thats just a weird statement. Belichick couldn't start for anyone in the league at any position and never could. I'd still take him as a mentor.

What I would say to Randy in that case (and what I bet he's used to saying to people all the time) is "Make it happen.".

I'm gonna assume you don't want Giggles Belichick to start for one year and then give way to Brady ...

We need to define "mentor" ... I think a mentor should be someone who has had some measure of success and is willing to share what he has learned along the way with younger players ... not quite a coach, but definately not just any veteran QB. I don't see a Don Strock or an Earl Morrall out there and I don't want to bring just anybody in and hand them Brady Quinn and Charlie Frye while saying "teach these guys what you know, but in the meantime win us some games.".

Otis, said last year and repeatedly here that we need one. Bernie? Keeping three non-producers last year with no veteran dressed on sidelines during gameday was stupid. I really think film crushing and adjusting in-game would help. We did none of that. Frye AND Quinn deserve better.
NOT Holcomb.

If you just want someone for film room and preperation... we have that already. It's Ken Dorsey.

He doesn't have all the physical skills, but you'd be hard pressed to find a guy who knows more about the game and how the QB position is supposed to be played than Dorsey.

Right on there, that's the reason we got him when we traded Dilfer. I remember Frye and Anderson saying that Dorsey's very valuable. Very good at being prepared, and having him in their ear is a very good thing. I am not worried about picking up a veteran QB. I'm just wondering who we're going to trade Anderson or Frye because i like Dorsey there as our number 3 guy. I like our QB coach a lot too, but Dorsey's fine where he is in my book. Our last option as well as a good mind who is playing the position.

Supposedly Quinn's biggest positive (or one of them) is that he is "The most NFL ready prospect to come out in years"... so why does he need a mentor? Shouldn't he be "NFL ready?"

how about getting bernie to help this kid out...

i mean, obviously, he's not going to suit up, but i'd really like to see bernie help this kid along, i'm sure they'll have some conversations anyways between now and the start of the year...

i agree about dorsey though, i've read that he's very good in the film room, and understands the game very well... not bad for a guy who's only been in the league a few years...

Obviously having Bernie around would really help him, but could it be awkward? Wasn't it printed last year that Charlie and Bernie actually had become good friends?

Wies is a good (not great) college coach, that i will give him that. But he is so overated. The media can't shut up about the guy and yet what is wiess' record in bowl games and against ranked teams?

On that note i don't think BQ needs a mentor, if he devotes him self to learning the offence and listening to coaches, he will be fine. I think the "mentor" QB is not essential unless that QB has actually done something in thier career. Somone like Green, maybe, but a career backup like Holcomb, no.

Being a mentor doesn't mean a guy has to be a great player.

I think Ken Dorsey will be a very good mentor. His lack of playing skill but still being in the league is testament to his ability to understand the game and prepare for the plan and game.

Dorsey knows the score and where he brings value to the team. Quinn needs to be roomed with Dorsey from the beginning.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

I agree, thats what i've been saying all along. As for Dorsey, I know that's his roll, but I'd want someone with more experience personally.

...just clicking

I never really understood why a team, any team for that matter, needs an old vet to teach the young QB how things are in the NFL.....isn't that what the QB coach is for? Why have a QB coach then?

I'm not saying a vet has nothing to teach. Just that, is that in a QB job description?

And try finding a old vet QB that is willing to be a mentor and step aside gracefully when the young pup is ready (very, very hard to find).

None of those names inspire me.

Just let our QB Coach do the "mentoring". Done.

On second thought...
Why is this being discussed?

Enjoy the great draft you had, Two Top Five Quality in one draft.

As aChiefs fan I'm jealous as hell of your draft.
