Cardale Jones to make NFL draft announcement at 4 p.m. Posted by Michael David Smith on January 15, 2015, 12:30 PM EST Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones appears headed toward the NFL draft after just three college starts. Jones has confirmed on Twitter that he will make a “life changing decision at 4 p.m.” (Jones initially tweeted that he would make the decision at 3 p.m., then changed it to 4 p.m. Apparently he wants another hour to think about what he’ll say.) Although Jones hasn’t said what he will be announcing, players rarely schedule press conferences to announce that they’re staying in school. And on the rare occasions when players do make such announcements, the press conference usually takes place in conjunction with the school’s athletics department. But according to multiple reports, Jones’s announcement will be at the Ginn Academy, where Jones attended high school. So it now appears nearly certain that Jones will turn pro, after one of the most unusual college careers in the history of the sport: Jones only started three games, and in those three games he led his team to victory in the Big Ten Championship Game and then to the national championship with two wins in the first-ever college football playoff. Is Jones ready to start in the NFL? Not yet. But he has all the tools that NFL teams look for in a quarterback, and less experienced quarterbacks than Jones have been drafted before, including Matt Cassel and Jay Schroeder. Jones is making a decision few expected as recently as a few days ago, but he’s probably making the right decision. link

It's a no-brainer to me. This should really amp up the crazy in the mock drafts this year

He is just so raw. But I'm not sure how his stock could be higher right now. Combines should help him... but their isnt enough film on him and that will scare some away. He has a cannon for an arm, big, and athletic enough for the NFL, but he needs work on his mechanics and footwork.
I think he should stay. Let JT and braxton qb next year and then his final year be qb.
If he didnt have a newborn ... I think he would stay for sure.

One thing I read that was interesting is that he has 72 hours from the time he declares to change his mind (provided he doesn't immediately sign with an agent). It's better for him to declare and see what kind of interest he may draw than to say that he is going to remain a Buckeye.

If he declares, I personally think he is the only QB in this draft worth taking. I don't know that he would set the world on fire in the NFL and he is absolutely a project, but I would love to see him in a Browns uniform.

I don't know if he's the only QB worth taking. It depends if you need a QB now (us) or in 2-3 years (Steelers). It's actually a perfect draft for him to declare. This might be the weakest QB draft in a long time.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

If Winston and Mariotta dont drop, he could be the guy teams that missed on one of those two trade up for at the back end of the first..
Or a team like New Orleans, Chicago, or even Philly might grab him and let him sit for a couple years behind someone..
Learning from Drew Breez wouldn't be too bad for him..

So many positives about this kid. The only problem I got is the sample size. But even that doesn't make me think he can't be successful in the NFL.
He Just may need to have time to develop.
I think it's wise for him to stay in school.. But Man, Id love to have him on the Browns. He could be our own Big Ben...
But for us, the question is, who do we have as a placeholder until he's ready?

That depends upon what the coaches determine as the cause of Hoyer's falling off. If they feel the cause was Shanny or the QB coach trying to change him, or forcing him to not change plays at the line, then we have Hoyer as a very good placeholder.

For Jones, the most important thing will be the Wonderlic test results.

For Jones, the most important thing will be the Wonderlic test results. Actually, I'll agree with the one pundit that said the most important thing will be private interviews and whiteboard work. If he kinda bombs the whiteboard stuff and doesn't appear very football smart, then his saving grace would be the Wonderlic because that would at least show an aptitude to learn.

Who would you rather have if you are a top team needing a QB? Winston or Jones?
I bet Jones gets drafted ahead of Winston.

I hope he declares. I would love to see him a whole season at OSU, but what is the probability of that happening with Braxton and JT expected to come back? His stock is the highest it will be right now unless he does indeed start a full season, dominate and win another NC. He could be a number one pick then.
The kid has talent and unbelievable composure. Not enough experience, but a team in the NFL will take a chance on that talent no doubt.
Mel Kiper has him projected as a high to mid 2nd round pick if he declared today.

I bet Jones gets drafted ahead of Winston. Wow, if I were a betting man, I would be all over that. I like Jones. A lot. I think that he has a world of potential. However,. let's not forget that he has 3 games played in an offense where Meyer has turned 3 different players into superstars. Winston has personal issues, but he is as close to being a plug and play starting QB as there is in this draft. He has experience in a pro style offense, and has all of the prototypical aspects you look for in a pro QB. He has the arm. He has the size. He has experience playing in a professional offense. He understand reads. If not for his personal issues, he would go #1 overall, and he still might do so regardless. Someone may take a crazy chance on Jones, and overdraft him based on only 3 games, but I doubt that he goes before either Winston or Mariota.

I bet Jones gets drafted ahead of Winston. die...if the Browns had the #1 pick, I would take Winston...
...BUT, the Browns do not have the #1 pick, do they?
So, unless the Browns want to pay a kings ransom in draft picks to move up to draft Winston, they might want to think about alternative solutions.
If Jones comes out, teams will get the opportunity to judge his draft value. The Browns took a flyer on a 5-11 scrambler, who looks awful...why not take a flyer on guy who is a 6-5 pocket passer?

I'll take that bet. What's on the table. I think Manziel's off the field issues will weigh heavily on teams's opinion of Winston (fair or not). Physically, Jones and Winston are roughly the same. I'd say Jones is the better runner and has a stronger arm but obviously, Winston has the experience. Gonna be an interesting combine. If Jones shows well, someone will take the raw talent and good attitude over Winston's personal issues. Nothing on the table besides the usual "na na na boo boo, told ya so" rights

If all three QBs were availble where we pick first, I take Winston and pretend I don't care about him being a hometown kid (even though I would).
Winston may be an airhead off the field, but you know what you're going to get out of him on the field. With Jones, is he the next JaMarcus Russell?

Wow, didn't see that coming but hey-he's doing the right thing by him and his future.
He can only get better from here and this will definitely improve his draft status when he does enter the draft.

How does Urban Meyer handle NOT 1, NOT 2, BUT 3 potential Heisman trophy winners at the same position???? And.... It's QB. Not RB, CB or WR!!
I mean, as a Buckeyes fan, I guess it's a good problem to have. But, wow!!! It's going to be interesting how this shakes out....

Earlier this season, he tweeted out asking why he "has to go to classs? He came to play football, not play classes".
And now he's staying for his education?
Good for him, but not particularly consistent.

I heard he might declare to make the NFL Deadline but he can have 72 hours to take his name off without any NCAA sanctions.
So because of the Unexpected happenings at the end of his season this left him at a lurch.
So not knowing what was announced at 4 I assume he will take the extra 3 days available to gather the info and make a final decision by declaring and then keep it as he was coming out or go back to OSU.
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

so the deadline is not the dead line?
Maybe he will pull a Kosar and apply for the supplemental draft. Is that possible?
