Lombardi and Banner orchestrated the firing of chud and Norv because they wouldnt play who Lombardi wanted them to and yet you defend them and are critical of Farmer and pettine for letting shanny resign.

http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ss..._social_featureBEREA, Ohio -- Mike Pettine let former Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan walk away without a battle because he didn't want someone on his staff that didn't want to be here. "It was something that we didn't want to drag out,'' said Pettine during new coordinator John DeFilippo's introductory press conference. "It's just very hard to win in the NFL (even) when everybody's into it and they truly want to be there, and again if you have somebody that just doesn't want to be there, I know it's easy to say, 'Hey he's under contract, hold him to it,' (but now) there's a dark cloud over your coaching offices and I've been a part of that. "This business, it's hard to win and you've got to have everybody into it, passionate about the Cleveland Browns and pulling the rope in the same direction." Pettine said he knows there was a discussion about trying to get compensation for Shanahan, who had two years remaining on his contract "but you start to get into that legal stuff and that's when I walk out of the room.'' Pettine said Shanahan didn't cite doubts about Johnny Manziel as a reason for wanting to leave. Shanahan has accepted the Falcons' offensive coordinator post where he'll work under current Seahawks coordinator Dan Quinn, a source told Northeast Ohio Media Group. "When Kyle talked to me, it was a very private conversation,'' said Pettine. "I'm not going to get into details, but it was not much about that. I think a lot of people are just putting that out there as a possible reason where he looked at it and said, 'Hey, the QB situation's not great and this is one of the reasons I want to get out of here.' I won't get into details, but in his reasoning to me that was not a part of it.'' Pettine said he was aware that Shanahan had issues before they became public. "Yes, I spoke to Kyle,'' he said. "I got out of town for a little bit, spoke to him briefly before I left, and then during that time I was away, had gotten ahold of me that he wanted to get together, so I knew there were some issues that we were going to meet on, and then the result of it was us agreeing to part ways after I got back.'' As for a report that Shanahan was job-seeking while Pettine was on vacation, Pettine said, "I heard that, but again, he had talked to me before he left and said, 'Hey, there's some things I want to discuss. I don't want to hit you with it now,' '' Pettine said. "We were both kind of going to take that week to decompress from the season, and then, we met when he got back.'' Pettine said Shanahan talked to him first and then "I arranged the meeting between Jimmy and Kyle. I have no issues. He was very up-front, very honest with me. I just felt it would be better off if we parted ways, so I accepted his resignation. I felt like it was the best course of action for the Browns and as I said, our goals are to move and to improve and with the hiring here of John DeFilippo I feel extremely confident that we can do that." In introducing DeFilippo, Pettine cited his great people skills and the chemistry the two have from having worked together on Rex Ryan's staff with the New York Jets in 2009. "When you lose someone on your coaching staff, no matter what the reasons are, you look at it as an opportunity,'' he said. "I see it as an opportunity to get better. I see it as an opportunity to develop.'' Pettine stressed that reports of "friction'' between the coaching staff and personnel department are "overblown'' and that he has a great working relationship with general manager Ray Farmer. "I know on the inside what we're building, and I feel even better now,'' he said. "I feel rejuvenated now. I feel that we're heading down the right path."

I think Shanny is a good but not great OC. I don't feel that I have enough insider info to make a judgement on his leaving.
I would have been happy with Clements. But agree that he was a pipe dream. (Aside: what does pipe dream" refer to? Sounds like it could be something dirty)
I wouldn't have been excited about Morninwig. I would have to go back and double check but I seem to remember him being pass happy. And I don't think that would work with our personnel.
DeFillipo is a big question mark. Supposedly he is a bright up and comer. I am approaching his hire with an open mind and would suggest that you do as well. He may be the re-incarnation of Mo Carthon but maybe we found a diamond in the rough.
Am I perfect? No Am I trying to be a better person? Also no

I thought it was rude the media drilling Pettine about Kyle's situation during Flip's intro conference. The meeting was about Flip, not about Kyle.
But wolves will be wolves lol...
As for what he said, nothing to get too high or too down on. I like that he will absorb the learning curve of the verbose and nomenclature of the play book to make it easy for our players. He talked a lot of positive about the zone blocking scheme which I thought was on fire when Alex was in there and extremely successful. All in all, I'm wishing him NOTHING but the best!
Welcome back to Ohio Flip!

The guy is brilliant. People are going to continue to rip me for saying that, but it's just the way I feel. I'm sorry. Shanny will be missed by me also. Sure he could've used the running backs more in the passing game and tried to utilize the screen game more as well. But overall I finally saw some imagination in the play calling and <gasp> halftime adjustments. I'm rooting for Flip, but have major doubts in him. Shanny had issues I think. He couldn't find a way to stay on good terms with RGIII. Then he comes here and finds issues that require a change again. And he's still not gotten another job. That might be a function of waiting until some other jobs open up.. We'll see. But there does seem to be a pattern developing.

I think within 2 years you might be saying Shanny WHO. I have faith that Flip will get the most out of the talent we do have on offense and he will do great IF we can get a QB and add some more talent and depth.
I AM ALWAYS RIGHT... except when I am wrong.

We could of hired the reincarnation of Bill Walsh and people still would of complained.. And we could have hired the reincarnation of Pat Shurmur and some would have still said it was brilliant and belittled those who are looking at things realistically. Oh.........and I was trying to figure out why we hire the QB coach--not the OC---from the worst offense in football, and then I saw the article that Flip and Pet have the same agent. So, we're back to The Big Show era. Oh yeah, you guys liked that tub of lard, too. Vers I have been reading through this thread and I have a honest question. Why are you calling him deflipper? I don't understand why you are mocking his name. Why are you attacking him on a personal level?

Saunders or Martz would be great to have under the "Senior Offensive Consultant" role. Someone with experience in the league for DeFilippo to bounce ideas off. DeFilippo doesn't need to "bounce ideas" off anyone. At only 36 years old, he's been a QBs coach for most of the past 15 years.

Everyone needs to have someone as a sounding board.
Anyway, in the press conference they addressed this exact issue and said they are considering it.

The Cleveland Browns are considering a former first-round quarterback to work with their first-round quarterback Johnny Manziel. A source told FOX Sports that Steve Walsh will be interviewing Saturday with the Browns for their vacancy at quarterbacks coach. Source: Browns eye ex-NFL vet Steve Walsh for QB coach position A first-round pick in the NFL's 1989 supplemental draft, Walsh enjoyed an 11-year playing career with six different teams before retiring after the 1999 season. Walsh has spent the past six seasons coaching high school football (Cardinal Newman) in West Palm Beach, Fla. During that time, Walsh declined several chances to pursue coaching opportunities at higher levels. The Browns are seeking a new quarterbacks coach after Dowell Loggains was fired after the 2014 season. Cleveland hired a new offensive coordinator this week to replace Kyle Shanahan in John DeFilippo, who was Oakland's quarterbacks coach. Both moves were first reported by FOX Sports. http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/cleve...position-012315

I did. The question is did you really read it?
Higher levels? What does that mean? Coaching for a team like USC or a Division III school like Middlebury College in the New England Small College Athletic Conference? Perhaps he had an offer to coach the 49ers or maybe he had an offer to coach a junior college team in Arizona.
I don't know. Do you?
I just wonder a bit when they fail to mention the teams at the "higher levels" in an article like this. Now, you would if had been Banner bringing him in for an interview, but you won't wonder this year, because these guys are "good" and "on the right track."

I could see JM giving himself to a Joe Montona type but would he be OK with having a new HS coach as his new trainer?

Of course I don't but I'm not speculating either. You're right, I had no respect for LomBanner. They were the ultimate expression of "dysfunctional". And yes, I do believe we are the on the right track and that these guys (although they perhaps make a mis-step occasionally) give me positive vibes...

Okay, I didn't hear the presser, but I still don't think he needs to "bounce ideas" off a senior asst. of something. If he needs a sounding board, maybe he should "bounce ideas" off of the offensive position coaches.

I know some do not think this job is highly sought after but think about this. You can totally suck here and no one is gonna blame you. You can totally suck and you will likely leave and still receive a few million from the browns for the next 2 years while you are working somewhere else. Now if you are successful, you can pretty much write your own ticket because you are about to become a head coach somewhere.
