So these political and religious threads are getting tiring. Just trying to do something fun.

Let's say you're 18 years old. you want to be a rapper, or a country/pop/rock singer, or start a band, play the drums, or do opera, or ANYTHING music wise.

what would your genre of music be? and what would your stage name be?

if i chose hip hop, my name would be either Tarroos, or Dead Philosopher.

if it was EDM(electronic/dance music), it would be StingerFish

Classic hard rock or metal. My name would be "Treacherous J. Flex". (Actually, that name was a computer generated pimp handle cool ).

Duke Jupiter, hard rock lead guitar. There actually may already have been a "Duke Jupiter", but come on, he couldn't play "All Along The Watchtower" or "Astronomy" or "Telegraph Road" like me ... if I could play.

I don't need to be a rapper or 18 years old to have My Tag.

I GOT my tag when my stand partner joined the orchestra- and we spent time riding to outlying gigs together.

Damon is 6-2, 230 lb, hails from East Detroit... and smokes the cello like a fine Cuban cigar.

Him... I call: "Big TeK" (short for "BIG Technique" ( a nod to "Immortal Technique"... and his incredible skills on our shared instrument).

He refers to me as: "Clemzilla:" in honor of how I've lifted my 'section-player status' to become the orchestra's resident narrator/spokesperson- and face of the franchise. It's also a reference to Bootsy ('Bootzilla') Collins, the bass player in the Parliament/Funkadelic band, who propelled P-Funk into the mainstream, when Disco was trying to own the world.

Timely. And appropriate, given my age. Given his age.

I'm actually OK with this nickname:

"Clemzilla- da deep-thrustin' 'hunnythrilla'...
Tha half&half son of a Black-azz ladykilla...
The high-yella, stone cold-azz "p*ssy-drilla-
The cello-playin' cold-azz 'condom-filla"...

(I love me some Biggie Smalls, yo-)

"Clemzilla" works for me, Swish...
I've earned the name in Real Life.

Sweetdeep love,
Clemzilla.

My friends and I had a rap group in high school (was a joke for a movie we were making) called the East Side All Stars. I was a schizophrenic with 3 personalities, each had his own rap style and sound. Tom E Mack, Craze-E and Basketball Jones.

My metal band, that never really existed, was called Zombie Carwash.

Mine would be a hard/heavy metal/blues rock band called "Jack Schidt".

The bumper stickers would say "I know Jack Schidt!"

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Been there, done that!

I think I was about 25? 26? years old back then (I'm 49 now - yikes!). I'm the one up front in the picture.

I played guitar & bass guitar in this band (Temporary Insanity). This picture is from about - I'm guessing - 1990? 1991? in Hollywood, California. Played heavy metal, hard rock when the Hollywood scene was pretty much all glam rock. We never got a record deal, but were offered a lousy one with BMG that we passed on. Also were under a production agreement with the drummer from Poison, Rikki Rocket, but nothing ever came from that.

Looking back, we should have just sold out, played glam rock and probably even wore dresses onstage in order to try to get signed. Yes, I'm serious. lol! You gotta stick out. Even Pantera had a glam look before they made it big.

It was rough living out there for a long, long time. I lived in a one bedroom apartment for 7 years with 2, 3 & 4 other people (band members/various girlfriends). Many unsigned bands lived like this back then. Life was hell, but we were just trying to make it.

Back in the 70's when I was in one of the first few bands I was in that actually played out and bands would advertised in The Scene we seriously considered,"Free Beer and Pizza!"

I recently heard rappers got their names by combining their first pet's name and the street they lived on. For some reason I doubt that, because I'd be "Squirrel Fountain".

Let's see, I've only really given thought towards one of these options. ..as a rapper...

I'd definitely call myself MC Clorox because I'd lighten stuff up....and clean up the game....

Instead of skeet, skeet, skeet, it'd be bleach, bleach, bleach....

Years back, The Missus and I used to go all-out decorating the front yard for Halloween. I made these life-sized fake headstones from styrofoam insulation panels, and all had bad puns for names. Some of the inscriptions:

WM. RANDOLPH HEARSE
"Publish or Perish"

BURY MANILOW

MACARENA
1996-1996

DISCO

PETER GRAVES

ALICE GHOSTLY

NIKOLAI RIMSKY-KORPSAKOV

Then, in a corner of the yard, I had two matching headstones:

NOTORIOUS D.O.A.
ColdPac 4 Shur

I have changed my mind as to my band's name. (Hey, many bands go through several names before the find fame)

My band's name will now be:

Ubiquitous Umbrage. wink We could be known as "Double U" for short. (which would confuse everyone as they would think "W") rofl

True story...

As a fighter I announced to my gym my fighting name will be "Awesomeness Prime", they laughed and basically said that your coach gives you the name and you can't name yourself..

My coach gave me a name and his stuck for years.

My fighting name is KTB, "Killer Teddy Bear" =/

In my second stint at college, I was in 2 groups:

1. A string quartet that specialized in 20th c./ avant-garde compositions. Other groups had given themselves names like The "Oak Grove Quartet,"BG Winds," "and "Amadeus Ensemble." We called ourselves: "Nuclear Slugs." On Recital night, every other ensemble came onstage dressed in shirt&tie/pretty dress combo or tux/formal dresses. We took the stage in ripped jeans and matching lime-green (personalized) bowling shirts. Threw down Shostakovich 8 like a bunch of badazzes. That was a fun night.

2. I was in a Jazz combo that specialized in funk-based acid Jazz. we called ourselves " Sync Trap".. a twofold play on words: 1. "Sync" an abbreviation of the word syncopation, meaning " a variety of rhythms which are in some way unexpected which make part or all of a tune or piece of music off-beat." 2. a reference to a "sink trap"... that j-shaped contraption that catches all the funk that drops down the drain.

Shortly after I won a spot on second desk with my current bunch, I dubbed our cello section the "F-KleFF Posse" (in musical nomenclature, celli read from the bass clef, also known as F Clef'). Shortly thereafter, the other instruments in our group who play our same low notes wanted to be included. The Basses were known as "The Great Big Bottoms," * ...and the trombones and tuba were known as "F-KleFF Posse- Airborne Division." Instant camaraderie among the sections.

----------------

Some day, I may tell about a 'back-to-back' gig (rehearsal, quickly followed by a concert after an hour's break) in which a good number of us sat around a table, sharing what our "Porn Names" might be. If it's legal by the refs, it might make for an entertaining thread, at some point.

* from Spinal Tap's "Big Bottom" lyrics: "Big bottom, big bottom
Talk about mud flaps, my girl's got 'em..."
