like...even something as small as city council?
I was thinking about it. what kept y'all from doing it? not interested? or just didn't like your chances?
would it be next to impossible to campaign?

would it be next to impossible to campaign? Not in a million years. There is not enough money to get me to do that. NO WAY. It's a thankless job. No matter what direction you take on a subject, you get labeled as something you are probably not. Try shaking that off. Labels stick.. good and bad! No think you..

Public service is the most honorable service there is. Too bad so many these days get in it for personal gain and not service. if you do it, do it 100% for the people.

I wouldn't and if I did, I would campaign on not doing a damned thing for my constituents. Nothing. I wouldn't even take any pay. I'd be willing to trim government in that fashion.

would it be next to impossible to campaign? I'd run for President just to get my fingers on that red button! But seriously I wouldn't mind working to make the country better; however I don't think you can do that and be a politician.

Maybe (then I think about my Google searches and anything I've done in college going public). Nope, never.

I would not. I feel that I would have to compromise too many of my values in order just to get backing and money to run a campaign. No thank you. It would just be an exercise in futility.

No.
An emphatic NO.
If given the chance, I'd much rather host a "Daily Show"- type satire program that devotes equal time to poking fun at the foolishness that is displayed on both sides of America's political conversation.
In doing so, I'd try to:
1. Skewer BOTH sets of fools who actually think they're 'putting one over' on the voting populace. 2. Expose the 'game players' for exactly what they are- fearlessly, relentlessly, and without favor to either side in this "2-Party/no-win game." 3. Say what I REALLY think about them both- without being beholding to any lobbyists, PACs, or 'power brokers' who'd seek to shove their hand up my azz, and make me their 'paid spokespuppet.'
I'd have much more influence than I ever could as a political hopeful/new operative... and I'd be able to say the exact right thing to make a 'tuned-in' American populace actually think about the choices they'd be making.
Besides.... I'd never pass the 'background check' protocol that's required to be considered a legitimate political candidate- on even the smallest of scales.
I like my skeletons right where the are... safely ensconced behind my own padlocked closet door.
America needs someone better than me- at ANY level of government.
My Last Word on this subject: "If any voter is stupid enough to vote the likes of me into office, they deserve the 'effed-up' results their vote would bring."
Sorry, Swish... if nominated, I would never run- and if elected, I would never serve.
America deserves better than the likes of me.
Word THAT.

I don't have the money and I wouldn't be able to promise rich donors that I'd keep them happy.
If there was lobbying and campaign finance reform then there'd probably be a ton of candidates way more worthy than me.

Even at a local level, it is all smear campaigns, and I just can't bring myself to do that.
Point out flaws in my opponents proposed plans, sure, but not make up stuff, sling mud about personal situations, ideas, etc. And surely not use my opponents family in any way to further my campaign.
For those few reasons I don't think I could ever win. And like Clem said, I like my skeletons locked away, no matter what size a skeleton is, they need to stay where they are. and I just don't think that is possible in today's politics.
If your opponent doesn't open that closet, the media will.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

would it be next to impossible to campaign? I'd love to. Unfortunately, I don't know enough about politics to qualify as a legitimate candidate.

please excuse my nerdiness...
I think that the running for office is like getting the Ring of Power from the LoTR. If you had the ring (get elected into office), you think you will use the ring (your position in office) to do good, you have all these plans and ambitions, and then something happens, the ring (perks) corrupts you and it consumes you. You then spend the rest of your life trying to acquire more power (wealth) because you have this ring.(your political influence).

I do not know you personally, but from what you have put on these boards, I can emphatically state that the ones running America are not even a fraction of the person you are and that things would be better with people like you running things. IMO, of course.

I once had an idea of running and telling the truth about everything in my life. When the press asks about my past indiscretions, I would admit and explain what had happened. I often wonder if that would win me votes because I was honest. Unfortunately, I'd have a lot to talk about.
One of the problems with running for office in a state or federal setting is the amount of dumpster diving performed by the media. Their behavior keeps good, honest people from attempting to perform a service to our country. A past of youthful exuberance should not prevent one from holding office. A felony or two should prevent one from holding office.

Never. I hate too many people too much (except all of you of course) to want to represent them. It would end up like anything else I've ever volunteered for or ran; no one gives their input, so I do what I want and everyone else complains.

I was thinking of trying. But I don't have the funds. And I have no filter on my mouth.

If I had the credentials to be able to seriously make a run at it, I would do it at the local level. I think you can really have impact there.
President? No bleeping chance. You life will never be the same, and not for the better. No to mention I don't think you can have that great of an impact over so many people.
I think I would probably go as high as mayor, anything past that and I think you're avoiding helping the common man. I think mayor is where the line is drawn. Some do great things, and others just use it for power.

That is one problem that needs fixing. I'd prefer there be more equal media, from the left, right, and center. There is no balance right now.

The media is not biased toward the left, it's biased towards ratings. If you were to measure the amount of available media I'm sure the right is more than well represented.

idk why anyone would.
Our government has moved to the point of comedy when it comes to achieving anything outside of a unilateral un-overruleable decision...
Every action by anyone has gotten so tied up in red tape that we've lost the ability to function with any success.

Another problem with the idea that there's a left bias is the standard held by many that if the source is not promoting conservatism or anti-democrat it's liberal.

Like all the News stories not reported or shown on most network and cable news programs in the last couple of years. If not for FOX I would never have heard of them. Finding balance is very difficult. I try to bounce around to see what everybody is saying about a News story I see on FOX because I know FOX is slanted Right. But the others won't even touch the subject or report on it because it is a Left screw up.

Saudi TV Blurs Michelle Obama Upon Her Visit to Pay Condolences For The Passing Of Their King
The Saudi state television station apparently blurred out the image of U.S. first lady Michelle Obama in the broadcast of her and President Barack Obama’s meeting with new Saudi King Salman today in Riyadh.
The new king shook hands with President Obama at the Erga Palace but didn’t acknowledge the first lady at all during a very brief meeting on the side of the funeral for King Abdullah. Barack and Michelle Obama cut short their trip to India to attend the funeral. Other news organizations, such as Al Jazeera, showed the meeting without obscuring Michelle Obama’s face.
Some Arab media outlets criticized Michelle Obama for wearing a blue dress, rather than a black one, which some say would have been more appropriate for a funeral.
-Ahhh international politics must really be fun.

I ran for county auditor and the state legislature in WA. state. Lost both times but if you don't have backing you are sunk before you start. I did have fun doing it. I had several Rush Limbaugh ties that were impressive until I turned them over and showed them the signature on the back - oh! the theatrics THAT caused. LOL
