So .... if the Ravens do dump him, anyone have an interest? He is 31 ..... and is coming off of an off year, and one where he received a 4 game drug suspension ,...... but he is still a disruptive force ....... Anyone take a chance on him if he becomes available? I dunno. 31 scares me, but man, he is exactly what the defense needs up front. Ravens may tell Ngata to take a pay cut if he wants to stay | ProFootballTalk http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/201...-wants-to-stay/Haloti Ngata is 31 years old and due an $8.5 million base salary in 2015, and the combination of those two facts is leading to questions in Baltimore about whether Ngata will remain with the Ravens. The Baltimore Sun is reporting that the Ravens want to negotiate a new contract with Ngata, and that if they can’t get that done, Ngata will have to find another place to finish his career. That news doesn’t come as a big surprise. The Ravens’ website noted in December that there’s no guarantee Ngata will be back in 2015, and that the Ravens might cut him this offseason. Ngata has been a good player in Baltimore for nine years, and it would be nice to think that he could finish his career with the Ravens. But the business of the NFL is such that when players get on the wrong side of 30, teams lose any sense of loyalty. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Ravens decide that Ngata is too expensive, and to send him packing.

Money talks, and we have a lot of it, but if you were free to play anywhere, would you choose the little brother you've embarrassed twice a year for most of your career?

This one ain't easy.
On one hand, he's always been a disruptive force (until 2014), and we'd be stealing talent from a divisional rival. On the other hand, he's definitely on the downside of his career, and would cost us a nice chunk of FA coin.
As tempting as it might be, I think I'd rather see Farmer draft some fresh "Young Nasty" to be OUR Ngata for the next 8-10 years.
As crazy as our FO history has been over the last 6 or so years, we've actually done a better job of building through the draft than we did before. We have a nice core of good players and better overall talent than we've had in years. I'd like to see us continue that trend- especially with linemen- and use our FA picks for bringing in talent at true need spots, or re-signing valued players already on the roster.
This isn't the '06 Browns. We don't have to fill our roster with other teams' castoffs just to put 53 men out there on Sunday any more. Stay the course. Work the plan.
Which begs the question, all you draftniks: what is the DL talent pool like for this year's draft class?

I would love to have Ngata. He seems to be a high character guy (although he got popped for PEDs in 2014) and his teammates love him. He also still performs at a high level.
With that said, he is the exact type of free agent who doesn't want to sign with us. He is old, made most of his money, and will want to be in a stable environment. I could see him signing with the Patriots, Packers, Colts, or Broncos.

Why not, Our Defense has been improving and its the positive end of our team. You guys make it like we have a ship with Black Sails on it in the NFL HARBOR...especially for the defense. There is no reason for one to fear joining it.
I think some of you have to get a little more realistic.
If he is healthy and that suspension was a lapse in judgment? Hey put in an incentive clause that he has to play in 13 games to get X $$$.
He's perfect for our Defense. He can even lose some FAT weight to lengthen his career and take on the 3-4 DE spot or Taylor one of them.

Me personally, don't think we would have a chance of landing him. He will go a top team like Denver, NE or such.
If there was a possibility, I'd love to have him! I love Rubin, but both being up in age I would rather plug Ngata in there. He's a monster.

I think some of you have to get a little more realistic. I don't think there's anything unrealistic about musing on whether or not a premium talent coming from a stable organization that has rings would want to go to an unstable perennial loser. I'm not saying that's an impossibility, but questioning the likelihood is certainly realistic. And, yes, there is plenty of reason to fear joining the Cleveland Browns, especially on the defensive side of the ball. How many times have we shifted from a 3-4 to a 4-3 over the years? Our coaching staff has more turnover than a Denny's kitchen. You factor that in with the fact that we're perennial losers who play in bad weather, and you have an undesirable scenario. I've never been one of the 'no free agents want to come here' guy, because it happens every year, but when you're talking about guys like Ngata, who if free would be able to choose from a number of winning organizations who will pay him, Cleveland really isn't in the running, save for a massive overpayment.

If Ngata still has the potential to play at a high level and wants to play for a team that has a shot at winning, he'll go to a team like NE or Seattle.
If he just wants to play a couple more years and soak up the paychecks then he should be thinking of nice weather...TB, Oak, Jax.

There are several DL guys I like in this draft, but the only guy with the power and endurance of Ngata is Shelton. He really needs to work on his technique in live action though, and will likely be picked before we are up anyways.

I'd take him and Suh, if possible.
Any time you have a chance to increase the talent of a team, you do it. Rookies are a crap shoot. He is proven, even if it's only for a few more years.

How great would it be to watch Ngata and Suh in orange helmets, wreaking havoc on AFCN QBs? Worth the price of signing them for sure, just to see fear in the eyes of Roeth, Flacco, and Dalton.

why would Ngata risk going to a team that won't probally make the playoffs for the 14th straight year? I can see Ngata going to the Steelers considering the intensity of the rivalry. maybe the Bengals if they cut Peko. The Browns instability at QB, and basically starting from the ground up on offense again and a front office that can't tie its own shoelaces doesn't make the Browns a attractive franchise for free agents especially coming from playoff teams.

Again reality is we have a Defensive minded Coach...as for continuity we have all coming back on the D. Players actually do differentiate Offense from Defense.
Most player are not stupid. Gipson, Whittner, Haden, Skrine, Williams, Gilbert in the Dbackfield. Dansby, Kruger, Mingo, Robertson and Kirksey LBs (some not signed but I think all these will be back). Bryant n Bryant, Taylor, Hughes, Kitchen.
He is not stupid - add NGATA ONE pretty good Defense - that btw is the FACT n Reality of why he might choose us if we want him. Also we remain in the Division a little buy back to the team getting rid of him. Also being close to home of which he made.

I still can't believe we didn't draft him, I remember when the browns were on the clock and I kept saying to my brother it has to be Ngata right? I mean that's exactly what we need a big time run stuffing DT that fits the 3-4 perfectly and has quickness to play inside or out and to rush the QB. Then they trade with Baltimore and the rest is history... Chances are though that if we didn't make the trade Ngata would have turned into big money G Warren and Kam Wimbley would have gone to Baltimore and been an all-pro next to Lewis.

I don't think he would come here.
We will get free agents that resemble our coaching hires this year.
What is the QB's coach's name? He has NEVER EVER coached before, but we put him in charge of handling our very inexperienced qb group. That's smart.
Maybe we will bring in free agents that have never played football before at the NFL level, the collegiate level, or not even in high school, but they did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

It's an impossible dream however, could you image how much more dominant the D could be if the Browns could somehow get Ngata as a Fee Agent and Danny Shelton from Washington for him to groom along side him? That would be a sick 1-2 combo at nose to keep the D strong all game long.
Hears to hoping Dorsey is the Browns Ozzie Newsome.

I would venture to say that would be a freaking nightmare for offenses throughout an entire game with that sort of rotation.

Maybe Paul Kruger could convince him to make his way over to Cleveland? Even at age 31 I would have to imagine a healthy Haloti Ngata is still much better than a majority of the guys we currently have. Stick him up front with Phil Taylor and John Hughes and we'll have what hopefully would be a very tough defensive front. I like the idea of bringing Ngata in if he's cut. You know he'll end up a Bengal or Steeler if we don't go after him.

Money doesn't talk. It screams.
The question is how much tread is left and how much will he cost.
He has been a hell of player and perfect for the issues the Browns have had in stopping the run.

I think he's got plenty left in the tank. And whoever acquires him is going to have to open their pocket books, just we would have to open them up a little wider to acquire him and I still don't think he'd want to come here. He'll be a day one upgrade to whoever gets him, no doubt about that.

Ngata and Suh side by side.
That could make for a very formidable front.
