There are typically two sessions per day. If you work afternoons in the mill, you can attend the morning practice. If you work the early shift, you can attend the afternoon session.
The NFL eliminated two a days in 2011. I went several times 2 years ago, and they were held in the afternoon. Last year they were in the morning. There are weekend sessions, so people who work would be able to make it.

If Jimmy is dumb enough to make this move (Well I guess everybody knows right away where I stand on this ) I worry about many of the people who work for the Browns and who live near Berea. How will it effect them? Will some of them lose their jobs? Will they be expected to commute every day? This could effect the lives of many families that nobody has even mentioned yet in this thread.

How will it effect them? Will some of them lose their jobs? Will they be expected to commute every day? This could effect the lives of many families that nobody has even mentioned yet in this thread. I went to several TCs last year and most of the people working these events (outside of people on the field) are college interns, vendors, and non-profits the Browns work with. And it's not like life in Berea stops if a move to Columbus happens. Just to be clear, the entire TC is not made public. There is a window of like 10-12 sessions (once a day) that fans can attend. ALSO, 1-2 are VIP for sponsors, certain vendors, and community partners. I don't know the entire plan if/when TC moves to Columbus, but I would guess those 10-12 public sessions are in Columbus and the rest of training camp (although not open to the public) will be back in Berea. So in regards to certain Berea workers, I don't think it would be an issue at all, but I don't know for certain.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

Those are the Browns training camp locations over the years. Spending 2-3 weeks away from headquarters in Berea is nothing new.
I doubt any Browns employees are going to lose their jobs. The only people impacted will be any of the contracted services such as Aramark employees who do the food service or maybe a few extra security people who are brought in for the few weeks camp was held in Berea. Those people won't lose a job based on a 2-3-4 week assignment. The'll just be reassigned to new foodservice or security assingments by their company.

By Tom Reed, Northeast Ohio Media Group Follow on Twitter on January 14, 2014 at 6:00 AM, updated January 14, 2014 at 6:11 AM 0 Browns Battleground Monday's Day 1: The Browns know it will be a challenge to win back Ohio fans - especially young fans Browns have discussed holding a minicamp, scrimmage or preseason game in Columbus Tuesday's Day 2: Why Columbus is a crucial market for the Browns to draw fans Wednesday's Day 3: What the Browns can learn from Athens County, a Browns stronghold - surrounded by Steelers gold Why these Canadian fans go the extra mile to show their loyalty to the Browns All Stories | COLUMBUS, Ohio – Four miles from one of America’s most iconic college football stadiums stands a vacant downtown building that once served as the nexus of the NFL universe. The office of league commissioner Joe F. Carr was located on the 11th floor of the Hayden Building across the street from the state capital. No multibillion dollar corporate deals were struck here during the 1920s and 1930s. Carr simply navigated the infant league through a river of red ink, shuttling franchises from small towns to big cities and recruiting financially capable owners. NFL headquarters were moved not long after the death of the Columbus native in 1939. While most sports fans know the city as home to the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Horseshoe and Woody Hayes, there remains strong interest in the NFL. The new Browns regime is aware of it and doesn't want to be left behind like Carr's empty office building. Team officials plan to be a serious player in Central Ohio, capitalizing on marketing opportunities and a shifting population base in the state's most prosperous region. An area budding with transplants, Central Ohio represents an NFL battleground market, one within 185 miles of four franchises: Browns, Cincinnati Bengals, Pittsburgh Steelers and Indianapolis Colts. The Browns might be a mess on the field – six straight losing seasons -- but they appear well-organized in trying to broaden their appeal in the nation's 15th largest city. Not long after team president Alec Scheiner joined the Browns in December 2012, one of his first trips was here. He spent two days introducing himself to businessmen, engaging with fans and meeting with members of the Greater Columbus Sports Commission. “We are definitely very split when it comes to the NFL fan base whether it’s the Browns, Steelers or Bengals,” sports commission executive director Linda Shetina Logan said. “But by far the Browns have been the most aggressive in this market as far as trying to tap into the Columbus corporate community, our fan base and trying to find opportunities to work together.” The city that helped give rise to Paul Brown at OSU boasts 809,798 residents – double that of Cleveland – and the state’s most robust economy. It’s little wonder why the Browns want to strengthen ties. Kevin Griffin, the club’s new vice president of fan experience and marketing, is a Columbus native and former Buckeyes football player. He’s also the nephew of OSU icon Archie Griffin. Griffin visits with Browns fans in the region and is active in developing ways to increase the Browns' presence. nfl office1.jpgView full sizeThe NFL headquarters were located in Columbus inside the now vacant Hayden Building, the dark brown structure, in the 1920s and 1930s.Tom Reed, NEOMG “We will do an event or two down there in the offseason,” he said. “The strategy is not fleshed out, but I can tell you it’s one of our top priorities.” Logan said idea of holding a minicamp, exhibition game or scrimmage has been discussed. She was told any involvement of players would require the new coach’s blessing. Former Browns coach Rob Chudzinski was receptive to the thought of holding a joint practice and scrimmage with an upcoming exhibition opponent. Logan said a venue like Columbus Crew Stadium or one of the city's small colleges could host such events. Logan grew up in Fairport Harbor, and remains a Cleveland sports fan. Her favorite team, the Indians, has a Triple-A affiliate, the Clippers, about four blocks away from her downtown office. She hails from a family of diehards who ventured onto rooftops to adjust TV antennas and tune in Browns game broadcasts from Erie, Pa., and London, Ontario, when they were blacked out locally. She’s eager to see better days for a franchise with two winning seasons in 15 years. Logan knows she’s not alone. “There’s a lot of dormant Browns fans down here waiting to be ignited again,” she said. A year ago, Facebook published a map illustrating the geographic location of NFL fanbases. It sifted through the data of its 35 million users who have liked a team’s fan page and assigned a simple majority to every county in the nation. The social media site awarded Franklin County to the Steelers, even as most interviewed for this series dispute that claim. facebook-nfl-map.jpgView full sizeThis is the map that Facebook.com compiled in 2013 using information on its users' declarations of the "favorite NFL team" in their profiles. The Browns have seen the Steelers and Bengals win over the fandom in much of Ohio.Facebook.com Columbus media personality Beau Bishop said he believes Browns fans still make up the bulk of the region’s NFL fans, but the Steelers and Bengals have solid fan bases. As a sports radio talk show host at 97.1 The Fan, Bishop said listeners would rather discuss the Browns than any other NFL team. As a WBNS television sports anchor, he said the general rule is when the Browns and Bengals conflict, the station will air the Browns. But as the Bengals reached the playoffs for a third straight season and the Browns lost 10 of their last 11 games, the CBS affiliate made exceptions. The Bengals earned the nod in the last three schedule conflicts, a sign of the diminishing respect the Browns are encountering on many levels. Bishop wonders how the organization’s relentless tributes to its players from the 1960s and 1980s resonate with Central Ohio’s younger audiences. There are 130,000 college students attending Columbus-area institutions annually. Columbus sports talk host Beau Bishop on the Browns 'selling the relic' Columbus talk show host Beau Bishop discusses why he says the Browns are "selling the relic," and why he thinks winning on the field is something the team must do soon. The sportscaster said the Browns are sometimes guilty of “peddling a relic.” “I think (the Browns) have the best fans in all of sports,” Bishop said. “Those fans identify themselves with the history Cleveland Browns. (When) the organization came back (in 1999) it was brilliant. They kept the colors, they kept the name. They were then able to sell a museum, sell what the franchise used to be and not so worry about what it currently is. “I think it makes them not have to be held as accountable for what they do on the field because they know they can tap into the feelings the fans have from their youth or their parents’ youth.” Columbus Blue Jackets winger R.J. Umberger discusses Steelers' popularity in Columbus The Blue Jackets hockey player is a Pittsburgh native and Steelers fan. That’s not an issue with a burgeoning Pittsburgh fan base in Central Ohio. There are at least three Steelers bars for a growing black-and-gold community. The Columbus Blue Jackets now play in the NHL’s Eastern Conference, and games against the Penguins at Nationwide Arena have felt like Pittsburgh home dates. NHL player R.J. Umberger, a Pittsburgh native, attended OSU and returned to the Columbus in 2008 as a member of the Blue Jackets. He’s witnessed a change over the years. “It definitely continues to grow,” Umberger said. “Now that I’m part of the city and suburbs, and not just located on campus, I notice (Steelers fans) everywhere. I see them at all the different bars and restaurants. I see jerseys all the time . . . I definitely think there is a big Steelers base here.” Of course, no NFL following here approaches the hysteria surrounding the Buckeyes. They are the antithesis of the turn-of-the-century Browns – a consistent winner, perennial title contender, beloved in every region of the state. You don’t need a Facebook color-coded map to tell which hue Ohio’s college-football loyalties are shaded. It’s telling that 15 years after the Browns' rebirth, one of the few constants with the team has been the playing of OSU anthem "Hang On Sloopy" before the start of every fourth quarter at FirstEnergy Stadium. As Scheiner tries to lure more fan interest and corporate dollars up US Route 71, he knows it starts with the on-field product. “The farther away you get from Cleveland, the more you have to battle the Bengals or Steelers or other teams, but as we rebuild this it will be easier,” Scheiner said. “. . . We know we have to win and we have to engage the fans. Engaging fans on social media or some of the things we are doing around the game, renovating the stadium, hopefully that will make us a more energetic, youthful franchise and that will make it easier with this generation. And, then we have to win. We never shy away from that: We have to win.” That’s what football fans here are accustomed to. The Buckeyes win. The Bengals and Colts are winning. The Steelers have won two Super Bowls since 2006. The Browns must start winning or prepare to see their lucrative Columbus bandwagon become as vacant as the old NFL commissioner’s headquarters. http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2014/01/browns_battleground_columbus_h.htmlThere are quite a few comments on this story. Columbus officials reportedly think city will host Browns training camp, team says no decision made By Nate Ulrich Published: December 18, 2014 Elected officials from Columbus visited FirstEnergy Stadium this past Sunday to make a pitch for the city to become the new home of Browns training camp, the Columbus Dispatch reported Thursday. Two sources at City Hall told the newspaper the group, which included Mayor Michael B. Coleman, City Council President Andrew J. Ginther and Franklin County Commissioner John O’Grady, left the recent meeting with the Browns believing it was “a matter of when, not if” the team announces training camp will relocate from its headquarters in Berea to Columbus. The group from Columbus offered financial incentives of an undisclosed amount to entice Browns owner Jimmy Haslam, according to the report. When asked to comment, the Browns said no decision has been made. "We haven’t made any decisions about the location of Browns training camp in 2015," team spokesman Rob McBurnett said Thursday. "We are still evaluating various options, including our facility in Berea." The University of Akron is among the other candidates vying to host training camp. UA's InfoCision Stadium hosted a crowd of 20,673 this past summer for the Browns' Family Day scrimmage. “Akron will get a good look," Haslam told an Akron Roundtable luncheon crowd last month. "You got off to a good start by what you did in August here. “All of us felt great about that Saturday morning that we came down here. First of all, the university did a great job, the facilities were good, the crowd turnout was outstanding. It literally felt like going into a Browns game that day.” The Browns have held training camp at their headquarters in Berea since 1992. http://www.ohio.com/blogs/cleveland-brow...n-made-1.550975I wonder why the mayor--and other elected officials--of Columbus would travel to Cleveland to make a pitch to the Browns to move their TC to Columbus if it didn't have an effect on the economy?

I am for the Browns shaking up everything. This team has been stuck in the same rut for so long, it needs some mental changes to point them in a new direction.
I think that hiring Pettine was great move by the organization. I think that he understands the job, and he understands how to motivate and discipline the players. I think that it huge.
How we need to break from the recent past. New uniforms are a start. No more "same old Browns". Move training camp to a new location. Another change that breaks the pattern, and separates the new Browns from the "same old Browns".
As many things that create a psychological break from the old is good with me. Of course, I don't have a horse in the race, because I can't go to training camp anyway.

One issue that moving training camp could help is a growing fan base of the Bengals with younger Ohioans in Central Ohio.
I live in West Central Ohio 1 hour closer to Cincinnati than Cleveland. Growing up there was always way more Browns fans than Bengal fans. Heck, even Dayton Ohio was close to 50/50 growing up. That is still the case with football fans where I live with people my age or older. What I have noticed recently is that with younger football fans there has been a dramatic shift in fan loyalty toward the Bengals.
I went to Buffalo Wild Wings during the Browns Bengals game in December. The whole place seemed to be cheering for the Bengals. With how the Browns played I had to live with my tail between my legs.
The move to Columbus could be to help change a loss in fan base to the Bengals. If the team does not start winning or doing something drastic they will start to become the other team in Ohio outside of Northeast Ohio.
I can see some real advantages to moving training camp to building a fan base outside of Northeast Ohio.

Rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic? Nope. Changing the mindset of the team, from top to bottom. That's far more helpful.

I can't say I 100% agree with you on moving training camp. I mean Peen has shown how it's not the first time. It has been done more than once in the teams history. But I can say this.
There has been a lot of investment and change in this team for the sake of marketing. A better "fan experience" at the stadium. New uniforms to be unveiled here soon. Now talk of moving training camp to expand the fan base.
You want to expand the fan base? Get a QB and WIN FOOTBALL GAMES! Hundreds of millions of dollars are spent on the stadium, while we sit on tens of millions of dollars in cap space every year.
I don't have a problem marketing a product. But firstly and more importantly you must build a product worthy of marketing.
Hey Jimmy, this isn't diesel fuel. It isn't a commodity where the product is made available to you. Processed and equal to every other truck stop. This is a product YOU have to build. Why not work on that before you raise your ticket prices, try to sell us new Browns gear and act like you've done something already.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Seriously, I've worked for quite a few different managers in my time, and the absolute worst were the ones who believed in change for its own sake. The uni's, the surroundings, the chow in the dining room - stuff like that - are all just window dressing ... excuses, IMO.

If anything we should move it back to Kirtland. 6 winning seasons in the 10 years we were there, versus 3 winning seasons in the 20 years we've been in Berea. By the way, I lived about 15 minutes from those Kirtland training camps back in the 80's and we would go every year. Was a great time!

It can provide a fresh delineation between the old and the new. It cannot be the only thing that is done, but it can be a valuable tool as part of a turnaround transition.

No offense, but I can't see how moving TC will help us win.
Let's look at it for what it is. It's about marketing and making more money. And again, if that is the case, than Jimmy, Scheiner, Griffin, etc should not get upset if fans in NE Ohio pledge their allegiance---AND MONEY--to another team.

I do have one comment that is contrary to something I suggested earlier. I asked why would politicians from Columbus make a trip to Cleveland to try and convince the Browns to move their TC there if it wasn't profitable.
I saw an interview w/the mayor of Berea. He said he had heard about the possible move but it was no skin off of his nose if the Browns go elsewhere. Not sure if he was talking tough, trying to be positive about his city, or if having the Browns there does not help the community?

A few of the restaurants may get some added business, but it's not like the Browns rent anything in Berea like they will in Columbus to use the Crew's stadium for practice. Berea is a small town and the Browns facitlty is right in the middle. I as sure the town has to spend a great deal on extra police during training camp for traffic and crowd control.

Administrators will come in to a sinking building and change the paint, change the carpet, hang a new chandelier in the foyer, and act like everything is better. Meanwhile the building will be consistently understaffed, have horrible moral in the underpaid staff, and generally give their patients crap (and that's being nice) care. All to the tune of $7000+ per month per bed. I call it putting lipstick on a pig. Haslam still has some improving of the product on the field to convince me he's not taking that route.

1st thing I did on every reclamation project I ever undertook in the restaurant business was to put the whole crew in new uniforms, that were a different color than the ones they used to wear. (and I had a huge gap in the middle of my restaurant career where I went into car sales, because I got burned out on the hours and pressure of turning restaurants around)
Why? Because it was a clear delineation between the old way and the new way.
Was it the only change I made in these store? Of course not. However, I wanted a visible change that those both inside and out could see immediately.
Why did I do this before anything else? Because I could tell people that we were changing everything, but it was an overt sign that we were changing things. Every little store-wide change, the minor ones, helped me make the bigger changes, because people got used to change, and learned to accept changes.
I realize that the NFL is different than the restaurants I used to manage, but the philosophy is the same. You have to get rid of the old loser mentality, and bring in a new mentality that says "we're worthwhile, and we're going to succeed". These kinds of steps, while small steps, can make a difference.
That's my experience. and granted on a different level .... but still I believe that the psychology is the same.

i think it's pretty funny that some posters are up in arms about this thinking that someone won't root for the Browns because they switched their TC. At this point we're all diagnosed with a severe case of stockholm syndrome with no hope for escape.

Hey, I drove my two boys (3 and 5 years old) from Dallas, Tx to Berea last summer...it was such a memory. Frankly, I couldn't care less where it is hosted...I'll be there every few years moving forward, maybe each year.
Columbus has a lot of positives including growth. It would make sense to grow there and there are likely more updated facilities.

As soon as I saw Vers started a thread I got excited because I knew it would be a train wreck
But to the topic at hand, I think you are looking at it the wrong way. I dont think Haslam is dissing Browns fans for moving TC to CBus, I actually think he is just making the Browns available to more Browns fans, and maybe converting a few that cant decide between the Bungles and the Browns.
Also keep in mind, until the Berea facility was built. The Browns always had TC at a location away from Cleveland. Hiram, Kent, somewhere way out East also. Cant remember the place, but I think it is Lake Erie College now.

The city of Berea is still getting that tax revenue. The team having a couple of weeks of of their summer TC in another city is not going to effect Berea a whole lot.

It only took your last 300 or so posts but finally a post I agree with you on 100%. Great perspective IMO. Let's spend less time on the window dressing and more time on the product. Again this smells of Scheiner. I thought Scheiner was one of the few good things Banner had done in his time here. But it appears this guy has unlimited power in the organization. And I'm not sure I like where that is going.

Cleveland Browns interested in Columbus for training camp Posted: 02/13/2015, 12:03pm | Zach Gase, Digital Editor at Sun Times Network
The Cleveland Browns’ training camp will remain in Berea for at least one more year. Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said this week that he is interested in moving the three-week training camp to central Ohio.
More from Cleveland.com:
“It’s well known and reported that we have been talking to Columbus about potentially moving down there in a couple years, but nothing has been finalized,” Haslam said. “Training camp will be here in Berea (this year). Might we have a family day like we did in Akron last year, which was hugely successful, somewhere else? Maybe. That’s not been finalized yet.”
The Browns have been strengthening ties with Columbus, the nation’s 15th largest city, since Alec Scheiner was named team president in December 2012. Haslam has had business dealings with Alex Fischer, president and CEO of the Columbus Partnership.
…
“The logistics of all that are substantial,” the owner said. “It takes a while to plan and get everything in place. The No. 1 thing we want to make sure we do is provide for the welfare and safety of our players and give them a great place not just to practice but to train.”
If the Browns do end up moving their training camp to Columbus, they would likely train on the Columbus Crew’s facilities. The Browns have trained in Berea – a nearby suburb of Cleveland – since 1992.
It has been a drama-filled offseason so far for the Cleveland Browns. Quarterback Johnny Manziel has checked himself into a rehabilitation facility; star wide receiver Josh Gordon has been suspended for at least one year for testing positive for alcohol in a drug test; and general manager Ray Farmer is facing a suspension for allegedly sending illegal texts during games last season.
So...........the fans [NE Ohio residents] that have supported the Browns the most over the years will now not be able see their team in TC, but a bunch of Bengal and Squeeler fans will. It's about marketing w/this guy. Manziel = marketing. Columbus = marketing. The fans of NE Ohio..........we already got your loyalty, so we don't need to do anything for you and will instead raise season ticket prices and move TC so you can't attend it anymore. You suck, Haslam! Man, I have NEVER been more wrong about a Brown's issue in my life than when I actually thought Haslam was a God send for the Browns. I can admit when I am wrong. I was dead wrong. The guy is a crook, deceitful, and a piece of crap! The Browns, as well as many other teams, have a history of having training camp away from thier "Home Turf" so to speak. 1999 2014 Cleveland Browns Training Facility Berea Ohio 1992 1995 Cleveland Browns Training Facility Berea Ohio 1982 1991 Lakeland Community College Kirtland Ohio 1975 1981 Kent State Kent Ohio 1952 1974 Hiram College Hiram Ohio 1946 1951 Bowling Green State Bowling Green Ohio So having training camp away from Berea isn't a big deal at all. Pittsburgh has moved around a bit as well over the years. Moore Field, Pittsburgh, Pa. 1933-37 St. Francis College 1938-40 Hershey, Pa. 1941-42, 1945-46 Philadelphia, Pa. 1943 Waukesha, Wisconsin 1944 Alliance College (Cambridge Springs, Pa.) 1947-51 St. Bonaventure College 1952-57 California State Teachers College 1958-60 Slippery Rock College 1961 West Liberty College (Wheeling, W.Va.) 1962-63 University of Rhode Island 1964-66* Saint Vincent College 1966-Prese Cincinattis short history doesn't mean they've stay put 2012 2014 Paul Brown Stadium Cincinnati Ohio 1997 2011 Georgetown College Georgetown Kentucky 1968 1996 Wilmington College Wilmington Ohio Chicago moved a bit as well. 2002 2014 Olivet Nazarene University Bourbonnais Illinois 1984 2001 UW Platteville Platteville Wisconsin 1975 1983 Lake Forest College Lake Forest Illinois 1944 1974 St. Joseph's College Rensselaer Indiana 1935 1943 St. John's Military Academy Delafield Wisconsin 1934 1934 Lane Tech High School Chicago Illinois 1933 1933 University of Notre Dame Notre Dame Indiana 1932 1932 Logan Square Ballpark Chicago Illinois 1931 1931 Loyola (IL) University Chicago Illinois 1930 1930 Mills Stadium Chicago Illinois The point is, so what? Teams move their training camps from time to time. The reasons aren't always marketing and revenue. I suspect that over the last ten or so years, it's been more for those reasons than others however. You don't like Haslam, I get that, but this is much ado about nothing.

Didn't Vers or someone call Daman, Captain Obvious? Does this make Vers, Major Hypocrite?
To be fair, I started that one. Obviously, that's not entirely correct. Since it was my comments that caused you to refer to me as Captain Obvious, the blame or credit (whichever you feel is correct) is mine

I never said you were snarky. I said you have fallen off the deep end. There's a difference. And I did use an emoticon to show I was more or less teasing.

A lot of teams hold camp a little bit away from their home. The reason why is simple, to attract more fans. You may consider it taking the local fans for granted and I understand the logic but since the Browns are competing with the Bengals and Steelers for fans in Central Ohio, this seems like a logical move.

This change of location for training camp..I'm not impressed...for one simple reason...the move does not appear to be tied to "winning"...but does appear to be tied to "marketing".
I would rather see Pettine take the team off site to some isolated place where they can focus on strictly football and winning.

He really enjoys lining his pockets, even though he cannot bring quality to this organization. The fan experience is a joke, higher ticket prices, Haslam stating they will not be active in FA, and character issues on this team...including at the highest levels. Who cares where training camp is?

He may have made some mistakes as an owner in his first couple years but I don't think any of them are because he wants to lose but make a bunch of money. He knows that the single biggest way to generate revenue is to win, be in the playoffs, generate more interest, grow the fan base, sell more jerseys, sell more beer, etc. So I think it's perfectly reasonable to question his decisions but I don't think it's because he's not committed to trying to win.

I believe the same could be said of Jr., his dad or anyone who owns an NFL franchise. They all want to win. My problem is trying to market a loser.
I don't mind seeing a good product being marketed. But at some point people look for some logic. Winning 7 games doesn't make your tickets worth 30% more. Winning 7 games isn't going to cause your fan base to rush out and get new gear because you decided to change it. Not having a QB before you ask fans to cough up money and buy new gear doesn't make sense.
Like I've said before, when it comes to diesel fuel, everyone has an equal product to market. The marketing is what sells your truck stop over others because the product is equal across the board.
In the NFL, you have to build a product worthy of marketing. Quite a stark contrast. So far the marketing is being put ahead of a quality product. Maybe Jimmy will figure that out this coming year.

i think it's pretty funny that some posters are up in arms about this thinking that someone won't root for the Browns because they switched their TC. At this point we're all diagnosed with a severe case of stockholm syndrome with no hope for escape. Someone actually liked this post? LMAO You don't have a clue as to what I am talking about. Haslam is doing this to make more money. He is not worried about the loyal fans who have supported the Browns over the years and wants to focus in on bringing in more fans for his team in a market that is currently divided. That's fine. Meanwhile: --he is under federal investigation. --he raised ticket prices by a substantial amount. --he has said his team won't be major players in free agency. [Hmmmmm.........raise ticket prices but don't spend money on making the team better?????] --has lied to the public about the continuity issue. --has Textgate on his hands. --had a coach beg to get out of Cleveland for a lateral move. --said he would not tolerate any more poor behavior from his players, yet has not followed up on his Word. --has a team president watching film along w/the GM and the coaching staff. --has a team that has posted back-to-back losing seasons. --apparently interfered w/the draft and chose a guy who would help marketing........gee, there is that word again. Bottom line: While some of you might be blind to what is transpiring w/the Browns, not everyone is. It is NOT one event that will make people go root for another team, but instead, there is a cumulative effect of many poor decisions and continued losing. You can laugh at me w/under the pretense of superiority, but a person should never expect loyalty from the very same people one is not loyal to.

I don't see this as all marketing. That being said, marketing is very important when owning a business.
The thing I like about this, is that it puts the players in either a dorm or hotel together. Instead of heading off to their homes and other friends besides players, they will be in close quarters with their teammates. I see this as a way to build a sense of team. The players will be hanging together and building friendships they may not have had when they could leave the facility and go their own way. It's a "camp", and to make it different from just practice I think this is a good move.
That being said, if the team makes more money from a larger fanbase, I see no problem with that. Owners buy teams to make a profit, some act as if that is a sin. I don't get it. It is just like politicians who bash the rich, then ask them for money behind closed doors.
As for being "deceitful", I just don't see it. He is telling people up front what he is doing. Not all Browns fans live in Cleveland, so I don't see how he is sticking it to anyone. People from all over the state go to training camp, not just Cleveland residents.
