I still haven't come out of the clouds from this past weekend, probably won't for awhile. But even though Braylon really had nothing to do with the draft this weekend, he was still discussed, showing up on ESPN and Savage mentioned him in the press conference (and again on Triv today).
Some things I noticed:
-Whether or not he actually changes his ways, he admits there were some problems and is working on maturing.
-Says compared to where he was this time last year, physically he's light years ahead (duh). Never forget the two years removed for a 100% recovery of an ACL.
-Is excited to have a projected real QB on the roster (not his words...that's my own personal bias).
-Savage mentioned this in his press conference, he said that Braylon is the final link to the offense, while everyone else is the meat and potatoes of the offense. Savage feels that with the meat and potatoes of the offense now in place, the apple pie can taste extra good after the meal. (Partially his words, partially my analogy).
I have to wonder if this is the year that he emerges. I'm cautiously optimistic.

With the addition of Thomas & Steiner the passing game should elevate in general, I would hope. I think Braylon's success probably depends on whether Charlie starts and makes serious progress or Brady starts and has to work through his first year. I think BE gets somewhat of a bad wrap but I also think that if maturity is gonna happen, he's on a good team and in a good organization to help him develop as a generally well rounded player with a good attitude.

Dude, he had almost 900 yards and 6 TDs his second year in the league, on a bad wheel, with a bad O-line, playing with two young, mediocre QBs. How much stepping up does he need to do before people stop saying he needs to "STEP UP"?

Totally agree here. I can't stand all the naysayers when it comes to BE. All I see here is "Leon this, Leon that" and people saying we need to get rid of this guy.
HE"S BEEN IN THE LEAGUE TWO FREAKIN YEARS.
and his 2nd year he was coming off an ACL tear---I know, everyone hates the "injury excuse." (I have a hard time calling it this.)
But give him a chance to produce this year. I'm def excited to see how he produces this year.

Not just the injury, but the O-line and QB had a ton to do with it as well. As I said in the original post, Savage said that there will be a trickle down effect. I have to believe it. Hell, people criticize Randy Moss' lack of production in Oakland. Watch Moss in New England this year, it gives me nightmares even thinking about the fact that we have to play them this year. I'll be satisfied losing by 20, cuz I think the massacre New England will put on teams (not just us...good teams too) will be THAT bad.
WR's benefit from good QB's, can't stress that enough.
Brady's gonna get Braylon the ball plenty, with accuracy so he can get the YAC. Hopefully he shores up the drops and runs the right routes.

I totally agree, I'm tired of people dogging on him. He got 900 yard with injuries, he's trying his damn best people. It's Frye's fault wheather or not he decides to give him the ball or not.
I also compare these same people to the ones that are hating on the GREAT draft we just had. They say we gave up too much, blah, blah, blah, we need the pick for next year...
The time is now jeeze.

Not when he doesn't know the playbook he's not. BE is not stupid, he should know the playbook inside and out, and he would if he worked at it hard enough.

Just who's fault is it that BE didn't know where to line up? Who's fault is it that BE ran the wrong routes? Who's fault is it that BE had hands that would make Roberto Duran proud on many occasions last year?
It's time for BE to step up and realize he is not Gods gift to the game, but that the game is Gods gift to him.

GM, I can't think of a post I've ever read on this board that I agreed with more. Don't be happy with 900 yards when he could have had 1,200-1,300 by knowing what he should be doing, where he should be and actually catching the ball. That's what I'm tired of.

I hope the coaching staff makes the players realize that there are NO starters ON THIS TEAM UNTIL THEY EARN IT DURING TRAINING CAMPS. I do think the team with some more help on the DLine and RB position can be 8-8 or better but time will tell. If Quinn learns as quickly as expected and if the new additions are assimilated quickly we will have success this season. If we can only stop the run better.......

Thank you! I simply could not agree more. Receiver is one of the easiest positions on offense to learn the plays. You have 10 different possibilities at all times: 1 of 9 routes (maybe a couple "special" ones) or block. More often than not, the way the play is called spells out what the receiver is going to do if no one else. Braylon has NOT given it his all. I'll whole-heartedly agree on the recovery from his knee; it was amazing and it showed true grit and determination...now he just needs to turn that toward the play book and put some pine tar on those hands!

BE busted his butt in Rehab ( I saw him myself more than once) if he would put the same effert into his play on the field, he could be one hell of a WR

Your point is well taken that he needs to mature and apply himself, but I doubt there was another 600yds to be had because he lined up wrong, ran a bad route or dropped a ball. That would be like 40 more catches and there were other factors at play in our sub par passing game, bad line, young QBs, blitzing Ds etc. Can Braylon be more productive and a better overall player? Yes. Has he shown flashes of ego in the past? Yes. But he has promise, he's passionate, was far and away our #1 wideout last year and the only things I've been hearing about him since the season ended have been positive. The team is behind him and thinks he'll settle in and continue be productive. Most of the negative comments I hear comes from this board, even the media doesn't ride him much. Personally I like the guy and think he's a weapon and a threat any time he's out there. I hope he scores 15 TDs next year and has that 1500 yds. (Of course that would be amazing because in 2006 the top four receivers, Chad, Marvin Harrison, Roy Williams and Reggie Wayne only had 1300+ yds each and 7, 12, 7 & 9 TDs respectively. And not to throw a bunch of stats around, but only Chad caught for over a 1000 yds prior to his 3rd or 4th year.)

Seriously! I was wondering why there were like 10 posts in a row drooling over Braylon, all of them ignoring his drops. I am not anti-Braylon by any means, but he truly does need to "step up" by simply HOLDING ON TO THE BALL!

They also come from insiders. Like I said the kid has talent, and he can be a hell of a WR, but it's up to him to WORK for it.

Well, I don't have inside info, but I agree, he does need to work for it. I think he's surrounded by good examples so hopefully some of that work ethic will rub off.

While saying the things I just said above, I also partially agree with you. I'm just as pissed off as everyone else when I see dropped passes or him running wrong routes.
I do agree that he needs to just shut his mouth and play it foward on every play, not just sometimes, but everytime.
Now we see what looks to be a more well rounded matured Edwards this season, but hey only time will tell. His future is in his hands right now. He can either choose to blossom into a hall of fame wideout or be the next TO, it's his move right now. Whther he decides to turn the corner, take the next step, and become a 1400 yard reciever is his choice. Now hopefully he does good things and takes responsiblity for his actions for the sake of the organization.
Find what you love and let it kill you.

Once we have an OL that can actually give the QB time, we'll see what Braylon and K2 are capable of.
EVERYTHING STARTS AT THE OL.

Ammo, not for nuttin, but that's the way Edwards himself sees it.. He said this is the year that the fans will see him produce the way he was drafted to produce (paraphrasing here)
So, not that it means a dang thing,, But at least he seems hell bent on showing us what he's all about.. Nothing would make me happier,,, perhaps some of the name calling (LEON) will stop and he'll be back to Braylon Edwards instead... that would make me happy,,,

I forget what company it was for, but a series of commercials airing a narcissistic wide receiver more concerned with the camera than anything else. As far as BE goes, I think he'll have a 1,000+ year, and i think we'll see a more mature side of him, especially now that we have a QB that can keep him in check. However, if we don't, i wouldn't be surprised to see him traded after the season.

Daman, let's hope BE epitomizes the old 3-year addage for wideouts coming into their own. While I certainly agree with those who've stated the obvious regarding his lack of maturity and focus, I still think he's worth waiting on for at least one more season (without the ridiculous vitriole many have spewed). The guy can play. Despite all his personal "issues" and the issues with the offense in general (of which there were PLENTY outside of Braylon), he was STILL one of the few guys we had out there making ANY plays at all when we had the football. It wouldn't take much for him to become a 1,200+ yd/10+ TD guy on a regular basis. I'd take that kind of production in a heartbeat.

I have faith in him, I really think he can step it up this year.
To me a lot of his drops looked like he was scared last year... It looked like he was afraid to get hit over the middle (notice the random jumping to catch balls thrown right at him.)
I believe Braylon can do it, I have supported him through all of the crap he has gotten from people, and I hope he proves me right.

Great post GM!
I was happy with BE's 900 yards but he should have easily been over 1200.... he just looked out of place too many times last year and had one too many rants on the side-lines...
He's got a lot of talent but I'm really hoping he can mature this year and really be a force.

i hope so...
i'd really like to be able to root for braylon... he seems like a decent guy, but he just really gets you sometimes, the off the field stuff is whatever it is, and it would probably go unnoticed if he didn't drop so many balls, and played with a little more intensity...
what i'm hoping is that with the addition of thomas, who can start right away (maybe not at LT, maybe so, but i would assume he at least starts the year at some place on the line) and the addition of quinn (who will become the starter at some point) that this team becomes more competitive, the offense can score a little more, and then people won't concentrate on what's happening on the sidelines...
i really rode braylon last year, for his character, and his play on the field, but i think some people need to realize that our 4-12 season was not because of him...
but with braylon, the talent is there, none of us question that... i know the intensity is there too...
i will be rooting for him this season, can he break out? absolutely...
if the line starts to really do their job, and charlie/brady has time to throw the ball, and the run game is supporting, i think kellen winslow can really break out.. he had a very solid year last year, but i know there's more with him... too much talent, and i don't think anyone questions his intensity... i love what he brought to the field every week... i think a lot of guys on this team could take a page from him, the way he competes...
taking a page from kellen also doesn't mean they should be calling out their counterpart on the opposing team... lolz
braylon will bounce back this year...

Braylon will have 1000 receiving yards this year.. i promise you that.. the guy has done his thing.. but the times we really need him, he just seems like he's lifeless or that he doesn't really care...
As long as he ALWAYS shows that effort.. and try to go after the ball, and not hit a Plaxico Burress, than I am happy he is on the team...

i can't see braylon being anything in the nfl because for some reason he cant catch the 5 yard passes and i don't like him he was not worth a first round pick and i wish we never got him. he is never going to get better he was post to be one of the greatest wideouts coming out of college but he is not he is a wast of money and a wast of time for all browns fans when we could have a real number 1 wr. get someone in here phil and get rid of this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
