All,

Just a heads up, Farmer's combine press conference will be at 10:30 eastern for anyone interested. After Pettine's last night, I'm interested to hear what Farmer has to say.

Also, I guess this can be the place holder for subsequent reactions to his words.

I'm sure it will be on most local sports radio stations and the Browns website.

Pettine's was good; hope Farmer matches it. Don't expect the earth to move, but I am interested in his output as well, especially in light of the scouting experience.

Due to FA and Draft - I really don't expect him to say much revealing.

I'm sure he'll be asked about the text thing. He probably will say he cannot say anything.

He'll be asked about JM he'll probably say he saw him but he won't disrespect his privacy. That sounded pretty good from Pettine so it will be used again.

Shanny...I'm sure he'll be polite about it although I think Pettine used some hard words which was sort of refreshing. I think that was him - just saw the quote marks and assumed it was Pettine. Pretty much saying Shanny QUIT.

possibly I was correct on my assessment of him???

If you are expecting a solid presser, then I doubt you'll be satisfied after hearing Ray's conference.

Was hoping for more, but about how I expected it to go. Anybody got a "nugget" from what they heard? I didn't get surprised by these.

The presser was pretty much what I expected..And I had no problems with it..

I don't dislike Farmer at all.. I like him.. I don't see the arrogance in him that many mention he has..

I pretty much feel about him as in the way Pet describes him... A guy who really wants to win and cares for this team..

Lets hope for good decision making from this point on..

Raise your hand if you thought Mary-Kay's questions were...huh...not very good!!!!

I really enjoyed her asking Ray if he plans to use the 12th and 19th picks moving up to get one of the leading QBs! rofl

Does it really surprise you, she's so incredibly horrible? He deserved every bit of her stupid and idiotic line of questioning, though. He really did. I would say for punishment, the NFL could just make a 30 min presser of Ray and just Mary Kay asking him questions rofl that will teach him!

How so?

An employee of the Browns defends his boss and makes a not so subtle comment about a guy who is gone and that is supposed to be gospel?

I actually thought it was a pretty good PC.

I really liked that he took responsibility for making a mistake by texting the coaching staff.

I thought he sounded intelligent and articulate.

I thought he was nervous, but so what?

I thought he gave some solid answers.

Now, whether or not he truly learned anything from his mistakes remains to be seen, but I was satisfied w/his responses and admissions and I hope he can learn from those mistakes and become an effective GM!

I agree. I think he looked humbled. Kind of like he got put in his place. He didn't seem as cocky, I don't know if that is the right word. Maybe assertive would be a better one.

From watching this PC and Pettine's, I believe Pettine was seriously pissed about the whole thing. I also heard him say that it was the wrong "platform". To me that sounds as if he got took to the woodshed by the coaching staff.

I just hope this teaches Haslam, to butt out. I still have to believe the two of them were together when the texts were sent.

I know you have animosity for the FO, and I understand why. My self, I don't know which is right, what is said, or the innuendo of things happening in the media.

Either way, I see Pettine as a guy who is all business, and I hope Haslam realizes who the strong person is on the football side. This just might have given Pettine a little more clout with the FO.

guy is a power hungry nut. that text stuff is nothing. he went to every monday after film review with all the coaching staff questioning play calling but even more the players on the field. there is such a thing as a chain of command in any buisness. you dont question in front of people under you. would have been ok if it was just him and pettin.

he is watching film with Alec Scheiner just so he has one more mouth in haslams ear.

he said today we are not going to do much in FA because why? he said draft picks should be playing instead. the guy makes banner look meek and humble!!

im not going to say i like how shanny quit but i dont blame him.

now we have a OC that never called a play in the nfl. a QB coach that never coached on a team at all and a WR coach that never coached in the nfl.

tell me to go root for another team, call me a pessimistic, but i just dont think this is going to work.

I know you are being rational. I want to explain. Some idiot will come back on my reply to you and rip it to shreds and then the pack will follow. But this post is to you and anyone else who wants to be rational.

I am down on the FO. But, it is not because of the stupid agenda of regime wars that is so impregnated on this--and other--boards.

I started off loving Haslam. I actually supported promoting Farmer. Pettine.........I was not so sure about. Shanny........I wasn't too excited about the hiring.

However, after watching things play out, I have changed my opinion on some of these guys........and it has NOTHING TO DO W/THE REGIME WAR BS THAT CONSTANTLY DRAGS DOWN THIS BOARD!

Haslam: I loved the guy at first, but he has proven to be a buffoon.

Farmer: I liked the hire, hated his handling of the first round, hated his stubborness, hated his interference, hated his arrogance, but just now..........he impressed me because he owned up to his mistakes......something that Gordon never did! We all make mistakes. Recognizing them, admitting them, and then resolving to correct them is what is important. He just won a second chance w/me.

Pettine: I was blase about the hire. But, I think the guy juggled a lot of crap this year. I think he has some rough edges, but I am pleased w/his performance thus far.

Shanny: Not sure I liked the hire. I don't like his dad. However, I saw more creativeness on play design, route trees, and play calling than I have EVER seen in Cleveland. I thought he was the best hire we have made since our rebirth. Of course, since I thought that.......he wanted out. [sigh]

You have been around long enough.......look at how most people respond to each regime. They love one, hate the next, love the next, hate the next.

I am not doing that. I am evaluating each person in the regime based on their own merits. It's called being objective, which in my point of view, is not very popular w/a significant percentage of our board population.

I do wish that some of the more quiet guys who PM would speak up more. It would be nice to have more balance on the board.

Farmer is just like the rest of the previous Browns GMs.
In over his head.
Every GM the Browns have employed had zero zilch GM experience previously.
Then once they get slapped with that GM role, their egos override intelligent logical drafting and all of a sudden they are the smartest guys in the room.
Farmer needs to stop trying to sound like he's the smartest guy in the room and
just concentrate on being a good GM.
He's already blown the 2014 Draft with whiffs in Manziel and Gilbert.
Hes got hit the bullseye on 12 and 19.

I am not going to tell you to root for another team.

I am just going to say that I am willing to give him another chance. I obviously will watch closely, but at least he admitted he made a mistake.

That means a lot to me.

I absolutely despise when people blame others for their mistakes.

It's like when Gordon was being suspended and all I read from the majority of posters were posts about how unfair the rules were, that pot was legal in a few states, Goodall was an idiot and should be fired, Ray Rice, etc.
And then I read that the problems in the FO were not really problems, but that LaCanafora and Shanny were to blame.

Are you freaking kidding me? Denial is worse than the original sin.

I'm glad Farmer admitted his mistakes. I don't know if he is sincere or not, but he bought more time w/me.

Oh............and I am not asking you to agree. Just stating my mindset.

How so?

Wasn't going to go into a back and forth on this but curious on the How So? To my assessment? or to Shanny Quitting.

If the later. I read a quote from Pettine (I THINK) it was in quote marks and he actually used the term "QUIT".

Are you suggesting it doesn't count cause he's an employee of the Browns? Its from PETTINE if I'm wrong in that assumption please set me straight cause I don't wish to quote the wrong person. But if Pettine that about as straight from the horses mouth as you can get!

I don't know why people are so quick to view the draft as bad. You can't judge this draft until at least yr. 3. This might turn out to be a very good draft. Give it time. Funny how some don't like Farmer it's a bust, Give the guy a chance.

no pettine said he was there with the whole coaching staff and when he disagreed with something he would ask questions. now you takee that any way you want but i still say he had no buisness doing that in front of the whole staff.

while farmer has a right to question coaching it should be 1 on 1 with the HC.

Haha. This is completely different from what you said originally. Also, I'd be interested to see what article you referred to. This sounds like the article questioning why Scheiner was in the film room.

I finally got a chance to listen to the presser. Actually, I was starting to get the feeling that he (farmer) was an arrogant arse. And maybe that was the case.

But getting your hand slapped over something like Texting to the sidelines may have actually helped humble this guy a bit.

Time will tell on that score.

As for MKC's question, "AS IF" he would answer that. I don't want him to answer that in an open forum like this. Geez..

He was humble, he was very serious and he was his typical cryptic self as he needed to be on a vast array of subjects.

I have a renewed feeling about him.

pretty sure Pettine gave two pressers from the Combine and also a radio interview (local Cleveland)

I know he said something to that effect. Not quite sure it was said how many coaches. Just joining Coaches on Monday film.
From there I don't think we really know how it went. Question? or Questioning? two different things. Educating oneself or butting in?

The more I read and hear pressers. Pettine is THE MAN and is being looked up to more and more from all ends!

I'm glad for one.

Pettine said Farmer, who's texts included opinions on playcalling and use of personnel, is very involved in evaluating game tape.

"Ray's very open, very honest, very forward,'' said Pettine. "He was part of our Monday night meetings when we did our post-game audit. We call it our 'after-action report.' We get together as coordinators. He sat in on that. When he had a concern he brought it up and those questions were answered.''

Thanks for posting that. Way different from what you were suggesting earlier. Its not a difference of opinion thing. You went way out of the lines. You use to get in trouble in Kindergarten didn't you. wink

well lets see. it was reported that the texts were about player and play calling. now here is where that LOGIC thing comes in. what do you think his concerns were when review in front of the coaching staff was?

again you were going way out of the lines. Too much imagination in there. I mean you can think what you want but to take that quote and state what you did and remotely suggest it as FACT...Just not close to being fact.

well i would have a heart attack if we did agree. rofl rofl

yea it is my opinion. but it is based on facts, what haslam, pettine, farmer said for the most part. with some rumors that came out of the locker room, what hoyer said, and what i like to think of as common sense and logic. sure is not from one thing lol.
