I agree. I am amazed by what a breath of fresh air he strikes me as being. I like most of his judgments, and he was learning to be head coach in the Bigs on a team with attitude deficiency issues, injuries, suspensions, and on and on. Sometimes the games were a sidecar almost. But he did better than I anticipated. Give him two or three more and I think he will compete very well.

He said something in the 92.3 interview that cracked me up, when asked about the difference between winning and losing...he replied "Well, the sex is better".
Classic.

I think in the long run we are all going to be happy MP is our head coach. Things have to settle down a bit. He had a tough first year with all the distractions and handled it well.

What are getting at?
Heckert?
Weeden and the first round was all Holmgren. I will be the first to admit. Holmgren fooled me. I thought with his background that he would get a quarterback.
How Weeden was a first round pick is almost more baffling than Manziel.
Heckert a genius?
Don't know, but I believe he is a better talent evaluator than Farmer.

I like them both! Although too early to tell for sure with Farmer. I think he will become an excellent GM.

I liked his comments in terms of the 4'clock home game and the fans: "it should give them time for a little more lubrication" hahaha. He knows us Cleveland people like our beer!

I like Pettine. I think that he is a really good blend of inspirational and disciplinarian types of coaches.

I think most everyone is on board with Pettine. The trepidation comes in with will Farmer be able to evaluate first round talent better and quit doing stupid things and will Haslam start having the patience needed to build continuity and a winning organization.
I don't believe either of those questions can be answered just yet. Early results aren't good.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

How Weeden was a first round pick is almost more baffling than Manziel.

Don't know, but I believe he is a better talent evaluator than Farmer.
Comparing Heckert's and Farmer's first year picks. Tom Heckert's first draft: 1. (7) Joe Haden, CB, Florida 2a. (38) T.J. Ward, S, Oregon 2b. (59) Montario Hardesty, RB, Tennessee 3a. (85) Colt McCoy, QB, Texas 3b. (92) Shawn Lauvao, OL, Arizona State 5. (160) Larry Asante, DB, Nebraska 6a. (177) Carlton Mitchell, WR, South Florida 6b. (186) Cliff Geathers, DL, South Carolina. Ray Farmer's first draft: 1a. (8) Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State 1b. (22) Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M 2. (35) Joel Bitonio, OL, Nevada 3a. (71) Christian Kirksey, ILB, Iowa 3b. (94) Terrance West, RB, Towson 4. (127) Pierre Desir, CB, Lindenwood

(94) Terrance West, RB, Towson 4. (127) Pierre Desir, CB, Lindenwood Outside of Farmer's 1st round, I think he did extremely well if you factor in UDFAs. There was a general consensus by all going into the draft that Gilbert was one of the best, if not the best CB. I understand that pick, he just turned out to be an individual with maturity issues. I don't really fault Farmer for the choice and understood it. What gets me is the Manziel pick at 22 when we were in desparate need of a WR. Had we not drafted Manziel, we could justifiably make a move for a QB this year with WRs and RBs in the mix to help the new QB out. It is what it is now. What Farmer does this year will set his precidence. If he moves for a QB without putting starting calibre weapons to throw to around the rookie, he is setting us up for long term failure. None of these QBs have the talent to carry a team. Winston might have that ability if he cleans up his act, but we are nowhere in the ballpark to draft him.

Wow i finally listened to the presser, man sure sounded like something was obviously going on between Pet and shanny. You never see a head coach take a shot at a coordinator like that.

I like Pettine just fine. I like farmer too but I worry about some of their decision making and arrogance. Neither one owns up to what a horrible failure the first round was for us.
The only thing that really bothers me with Farmer is that last season he said what he looks for in a QB and then he drafted Johnny who was the complete opposite of what he said he was looking for. He personally scouted him out and still stuck us with him. There is something really wrong about that.
1 draft does not a GM make so we will see how this draft goes. I don't envy our team in their search to improve the QB situation.

I'm going to try to walk a line here. I kind of wish Pettine didn't say that stuff about Shanny. This is why some people complain that he speaks out of turn (there was a Belichek/Rex Ryan kerfluffle last off-season where Pettine talked himself into some trouble). If I were with the Browns right now, I wouldn't want to invite any more shots on the team, and that's what you're doing when you talk about an ex coordinator like that.
I say I'm trying to walk a line because, as a person and fan, I really enjoy it and encourage it when coaches actually take an honest, open, no nonesense approach. That bleacher report article rightfully heaps the praise on Pettine for not following SOP in these situations, but facing it head on.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

I guess I tripped over your line I did not take that as a slam. Just talking about getting on the same page. Just thought that Shanny did not agree with the FO approach. Fine were moving on, that is how I took that.

Not sure if they should own up to it ... Considering both positions are the hardest to learn.. We all wanted to see these guys play top level ball.. but realistically they both have 2 more years to learn and play better before admitting any failure.. Disappointing yes.. Failure ? to soon to tell.

Yeah... Mike was a hire at first I didn't think highly of, but after listening to him and seeing how the players play for him (excluding the three morons) - it's hard to not like the man. He's blunt and straight forward. Seems the players love him and he loves the players. He sticks up for his players a lot.
I truly admire his honesty when speaking with the media. Agreed. Give this guy the weapons, he'll lead them to the promised land. At least thats the impression I have.

Don't know if it was some bozo's speculation I read, or the homeless guy thing, or what. Nothing to back it up, but I feel that way too.

To me those are the choices we're left with. Either Farmer totally abandoned the 100k analysis and his thought process on what he wanted in a QB, or he was pushed by Haslam. One of those things had to happen. Neither is good IMO.

What has Farmer stated that he wants in a QB?
Not questioning your statement (how sad is it that we have to include that kind of statement on this board?). I haven't heard him describe what he is looking for in a Qb and would love to know.

There was a video last year on the official site that had Farmer describing what he wants in a QB while at the Senior Bowl. I am sure it is on the internet somewhere.

Chargerdawg, SuperBrown is THE most loyal negative Browns fan on this planet. His is true Brown & Orange. He simple likes the negative side. You simply need to look at the content and not the presentation. One annoying attribute every Alabama player is a must! By the way, SurperBrown's last positive post was the day Browns drafted TRich! Need I say more!
