The point I tried to make earlier was this; we need a place kicker. It may not be the 2nd most important need, but it is on the board. We have 4 picks in the 6th and 7th rounds. Using one of those picks to take the best available PK is both prudent and safe.

Your take is a very logical one. Some people keep using the excuse that you can pick up a kicker off the street. That you can find one easily out of the UDFA's. Maybe that explains the sub par performance we've been stuck with from Kundiff?

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Kundiff wasn't even our choice...I'm pretty sure in 2013 we had another and then he got injured and we searched around and picked Kundiff off the streets. Kept him last year cause We had no big games in 2013 so Kundiff did ok...choked under the pressure in 2014.

very instrumental in losing 3 games.

What did the Cowboys use for their kicker in draft pick? curious cause that kid was solid all year. Wonder when they got him where to figure where we got to use a pick on ours. And heck I wouldn't mind a good punter also late rounds.

Kickers win games. I don't get why the first round isn't littered with kickers who were busts the way it is with QBs.

simple. 1st round drafted kickers don't bust.

This is true. 100% success rate. Let's do it. Although we might want to wait till that FSU kicker is in the draft.

I change my argument.

There have been three kickers drafted in the first round:

Sebastian Janikowski
Steve Little
Charlie Gogolak

Little and Gogolak were horrible. That is only a 33% success rate.

I now don't think we should draft a kicker in the first round.

That's a WAY better success rate than 1st round QB's, and probably 1st round DE's, too..... sign me up!

Browns is the Browns

... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

I just know that we are in a dire need of a kicker who can reliably make 50 yard plus field goals. Whatever we have to do outside the first two rounds to get one I am all for it.

We didn't make the playoffs because we didn't have one. That is the single biggest reason. Not addressing it would be criminal and show that our front office is a joke that doesn't know what they are doing IMHO.

Actually I had Cundiff but saw others (was replying to PIT...and he had Kundiff...I don't pay attention to spelling bottom of my list of concerns. So assumed my spelling Cundiff was incorrect.

Of course I'm sure you scolded Pit right... lol laugh

Yeah I'm a jerk cause I don't spell the name correctly...you got me there.

So the point is to discuss the K's available and no one has any interest.

You asked who the top 3 kickers are in the draft. I listed the top 4 according to Walters.. even stating my preference might be the kid from Notre Dame, if for no other reason, he has kicked off grass and in bad weather... You never responded or offered any kind of opinion on the kickers.

You have allowed yourself to be dragged into this debate on the importance of a kicker and ignored posts that are willing to discuss kickers.

So who would you take, in what round, and why?

I like Sam Ficken from Penn State. As a junior in 2013 he hit a 54 yarder in the rain. In 2014 he hit 8 of 9 from 40-49 yards and was one for two at 50+. He had an overall percentage of 82.8

Like Brindza he played on grass in northern climate. Brindza had more FG than Ficken, but Ficken had more from 40+ and his overall average was better.

Sorry guys. 19 hour work day and let a couple pests get to me. I honestly somehow missed your input DC. From what I read the kid from ND might have the best leg and has show he's pretty clutch but not the most accurate from 40+. Had a real rough senior year. Also he was born with a club foot.

The kid from LM is intriguing. I imagine one day teams will either have a gangbuster K or a guy who can save a roster spot by punting also. He seems to be the latter but as you said cold weather is tricky.

CBS has their 3rd K as unrated on walter. Sam Ficken from PSU. 82% this year. Highly consistent. Might be worth a look as our last pick.

Sounds promising I hope we land one of them!
