To return a punt, I'm all for it.

Eh, if we are relying on him as a top WR for this team, then yikes. If we are searching for a cheap punt returner, then yeah let's have a looksy.

we have guys just as fast and that catch better so no he is of no use to us.

I'm thinking he may return to Carolina...After Benjamin and a decent Philly Brown...they have absolutely no one at WR and returner.

Last year Ginn, in 16 games, had 14 catches for 190 yards.

He returned 22 kicks for 417 yards. (19 average)

He handled 50 punts. He had 24 fair catches, and 26 returns for 277 yards. That is a 10.3 yard average, and he did have one return for a TD.

Benjamin caught 18 passes for 314 yards. He also scored 3 TD.

He returned 12 kicks for 246 yards. (20.5 average)

He handled 23 punts. He had 8 fair catches, and returned 15 for 127 yards. He did not score on special teams this year. In the last 6 games, he had punt returns in 4 of them. In those game, he had a total of 9 PR for 110.8 yards. (12.3 average) He definitely came back well in the final 4 games of the season.

Benjamin fumbled twice, losing none, and actually forced a fumble last year, recovering that fumble himself.

Ginn also fumbled twice, losing none.

I look at Ginn and I wonder what the team will see this year that the didn't see last year. Maybe an older, slower, and less effective player?

Does Ginn have any history with our coaching staff? I can't think of any. Does he replace Moore on special teams? I doubt it. Is he enough of a receiver threat to allow us to carry him as a receiver in addition to punt return duties? I cannot imagine that he is.

I do not suspect that he will be on our radar. I do suspect that we will look in the draft for a receiver who can challenge for return duties, and bring in a veteran receiver who can provide that bigger outside receiving presence we lacked last year without Gordon, and once Austin went down.

I really have a hard time seeing the team adding more than 2 WR. However, we added our top 3 WR last year, and they did well, so maybe we add that many again, but I have doubts. I am certain that we will grab at least 2 WR between the draft and free agency though.

I'd say if he weren't from Cleveland/Ohio State I probably wouldn't think twice about signing him.

Thus, I doubt our FO will either.

However, we do need a more reliable PR.

Not sure what we'd do with him. Don't need him as a receiver and as a returner, at age 29, he's not going to add anything that we don't already have.

Bring him in to return kickoffs and punts at a very cap friendly contract and I'm all for it. Now I'm hoping Brian Hartline gets released in Miami so we can sign him and Cecil Shorts III. Bring these Ohio boys home.

He would be a huge upgrade over Travis Benjamin returning punts.

Marlone Moore was good at returning kickoffs but he was injured a lot and is a free agent.

Signing Ginn would fill a big roster need.

It was so maddening how Benjamin would run 20 yards left and right to gain 6 yards on the return. If he would just o North and South, he would be fine.

Pre-ACL injury Benjamin was a great punt returner. I think he got spooked.

The Ravens released Jacoby Jones, and I would take him as a returner long before I would look at Ginn.

I really like Stefon Diggs out of Maryland as a return guy and a WR option... The kid struggled to put up numbers at Maryland because of really bad QB play. Watching him was like watching Edwards and Winslow back in the day, he'd have to make a spectacular diving catch for a 7 yard gain when a good pass would have allowed him to run for 20 more yards.. it was frustrating to watch.

Unfortunately, from what I understand he looked really good at the combine (which doesn't surprise me) and his draft stock is probably rising.. was hoping we could steal him as late as the 4th but it's looking like that won't be possible.

Hopefully, if we sign, it's a cheap contract. Ginn shouldn't be considered anything more than a returner. For his career, he averages 23 yards per game.

Yeah, I would much rather see them get Jones.

Hope it is to sell him a PSL. Not now at his age.

I don't think signing Ginn as a KR/PR and 4th--5th WR is such a bad idea.

The return game cost us greatly last year. Ginn is a good returner and would give us about the same production as Benjamin did in the passing game.

Sure, lets sign him up. Then Farmer can use that as an excuse for not taking a WR in the draft. We're SAVED. lol.

As a punt returner ONLY that's fine I guess. Though with all the holes on this team, panting over a return guy is funny.

I think it was the head shot, the concussion, that turned him into a timid returner. When he came back from that he wasn't right.

As for Ginn, I think he could return kicks and if the team gets anything from him as a WR that's a bonus.

Here's Donte Whitner's comments to The Plain Dealer about Ginn as a WR ...

Whitner is convinced that Ginn Jr. can also still excel at receiver, as evidenced by his 36 catches for 556 yards and career-high five TDs for the Panthers in 2013.

"I think he can take the top of a defense as a wide receiver and even if you don't give him the ball, other teams have to know where he is, just because of his speed,'' said Whitner. "You probably won't play a lot of single coverage over the top of him, because if he gets past one guy, he's gone. And as far as a punt returner, that's really offense for us. So you can take a lot of pressure off the offense with Teddy being a dynamic punt returner. Getting those 10, 15 yards, sometimes breaking the big one -- it put a lot of pressure on punt teams because they really don't want to kick to him.''

No offesne to Hitner, but I'm still not interested in Ginn as a WR. We already have a speed WR that hasn't been much productive.

I think Whitner is exaggerating a bit or referencing a younger Ginn. Not the prolific answer we need at WR or non-fumbling return guy. Is fast. So was Cribbs.

Yeah go for! Let's pick up more undersized castoff players prone to injury why we're at it. Why are we even talking to Ginn?
