I enjoy coming to Dawgtalkers for the simple reason that everything towns is on this board. I love reading Browns and discussing opinions and even the debates.

Lately, its becoming difficult to wade thru post after post, thread after thread filled with name calling, insults and personal attacks. I've been guilty of it before and I've made a concerted effort to not do that. Right now I see at least one post that I bet my 20 bucks that going to result in a suspension or a banning.

Again, I'm here for Browns info and discussion.. Can we try to do some of that please? You don't have to love your fellow posters but some courtesy and a little respect would be a good thing.

I agree 1 million percent.

We are all Browns fans, yet some act like those who also support the team are their worst enemies. Other times some people take the most minute, unimportant thing, and make it seem like the end of the world. Others take something someone said, often in an innocent comment, and make it seem like that person just called their mom an ax murderer with bad breath and quarter size warts all over her face.

The board has definitely gone downhill. I used to read every thread, but I don't anymore. There are certain posters I try to avoid because of the way they have acted, and treated others.

There was a time when civility was expected, even in the most heated of debates. That does not seem to be the case anymore. Hopefully we can recapture that civil behavior, even if the Refs don't enforce it like they used to. There really is no need for most of the bad behavior I see here.

I agree with you completely.

Live long and prosper right back atcha.

I agree. I generally avoid pretty much any topic on here anymore because its gotten old. Whether its arguing about the Browns, politics, religion, science, etc. I get to the point where I don't even read the thread anymore because you're all idiots

Seriously though, I agree man.

BTW, looks like me and SackDawg are going to meet up in Stuttgart for the Frühlingsfest.

Two rules when in public, never discuss Religion, never discuss Politics. They are emotional subjects and people feel them deeply, they can lead to fights.

In the "Everything Else" forum, we discuss both subjects at length and it is bound to get heated and down right combative at times but it is enjoyable to many of us. This is the one place where things can be discussed and argued but in the end we are talking to people who have the love of our Browns in common. We all suffer them the same and jump through hoops when they succeed.

I agree we need to be more civil though. We also need to avoid being boring.
Well that's my opinion, take it and $1.50 to the coffee shop for a coffee.

I hope your post does some good. We're always going to have some hot issue going but the snark level has risen the last couple of years and the level of civility has diminished greatly.

Maybe instead of banning them, Purp could just take them out and shoot them. Not to kill them, just a flesh wound.

This is true. I have noticed that my "enthusiasim" (willingness to participate in discussions) has lessened considerably, hence my sig. Besides, I have run out of popcorn...

Thank You Saint for posting this, I was thinking about doing some thing similar. Tired of logging in and seeing that their are 10 new posts on a topic only to find 6 or 7 of them are nothing but fighting between fellow posters. I think a few people on here need to remember what we were taught by our parents as kids and that is If you don't have anything good to say about someone then don't say anything at all.

I think this should be reposted in all the forums. I rarely come on to the everything else forum. Just a coincidence that I saw this. But I definitely agree.

My two suggestions are:

1 - When posting, read your comments and imagine if they were addressed to you. This ask yourself if you should modify it.

2 - When receiving a post, don't take things so personally. If you feel offended, laugh at the statement, realize that the person is expressing their frustration at the Browns but aiming it in the wrong direction, then ignore it. If you address those comments things escalate, If you choose to ignore them they fade off.

Yep. I get sick of all the Nancies acting like idiots, calling each other names and fighting like rugrats. You don't have to call each other stupid because it's obvious to everyone who the Dolts are. And for Pete's sake quit crying racist at every turn, you're not white... we get it.

Last but not least, please respect your elders and those that spend their entire lives on the board, you can identify most by their post count (except guys like me who have been here for years but don't post nearly as much as they read). They have the right to feel above you, better than you and more important here than you... They've had to endure much more here than you will ever know. So can the spam noobie dawgs with less than 25,000 post a day. You're opinions don't matter.

With all that said, there are a helluva lot of good people on here from all different walks of life and backgrounds. Most would give you the shirts off their backs if you needed a hand and really do care about you as a person. So the next time you feel like your feelings got a little stepped on or that you've been somehow slighted; just take a breath, pull your panties out of that bunch and act like an adult! PLEASE.

Saint is only saying what many of us have been thinking for a while now. And even though I joke a little in this post, I really do think that we (as a community) could be a little more respectful of the others that are here too and remember that public post have to be viewed by everyone that is trying to find the good nuggets and debates. PMs are much better suited for private beefs between you and your nemesis. PMs also offer the advantage of NOT taking part in a brutal trash talking session if you're really not into it.

I don't know if this post is about a run-in I had with Eotab yesterday, but I think it might be. In the last few years, I've tried pretty hard to avoid the confrontations that seem to litter the board nowadays. I don't know if anyone has noticed or cares. Hell, I don't even know if anyone reads what I post. But yesterday I did lose my temper after being called an a-hole. I'm not happy about it, or proud of it. I don't want him to be suspended or banned, although I will probably avoid, or just not reply to his posts anymore. Part of getting along is putting yourself in the other person's place, and I probably should know by now that he is not the type who should be joked with, because he seems to have pretty thin skin. The other part of getting along is to not come here looking to be offended, because there will be someone willing to accommodate you. Anyway, sorry for the ugliness in Pure Football yesterday, I didn't mean to disrupt the board.

I realize this may come off as provocation but I seriously suspect a few posters of having real psychological or emotional problems. I avoid threads that turn into bicker sessions. There's half a dozen going right now that I won't open ever again. Others I'll open and scan quickly for news pieces but that's it. Every few weeks I look in on the "Everything Else" forum and regret it almost every time. There are a few posters here who can't seem to not take/make things personal. There are many more who feel it is utterly imperative they be seen as right above all else. I don't like being around that in my day to day life and I avoid it here. But after all a forum is one long comments section after an initial post. And you know what they say about the comments...

I think posters should say how they really feel. I don't have a much of a filter in real life, and it carries over on the board.

And I don't have a problem with posters taking personal shots. If thats how you feel, than what can i do about it? or anybody else? We are grown men and women on this board. if you get offended by some stranger taking personal shots on a message board, I can only imagine the emotional meltdowns that poster must have in real life.

Yeah, I know.

I read Saint's post and I felt bad because I am one of the guys who is always arguing w/others. There were a few good posts and then I read YTown's. He says he agrees w/Saint, but absolutely ripped other posters while doing so. I am thinking.............WTF?

I ignored it at the time because of what Saint said. However, many hours later, I see that several others are saying similar things while absolving themselves. Grrrrr.....sorry, but that kinda rubs me the wrong way. People are acting like they agree w/Saint, but are ripping other posters while doing so.

Ahhh.........isn't that a combination of hypocrisy and irony?

Look, I will back off............but let me tell y'all something...........when you read 7 posts dedicated to ripping ONLY you, let's see how well you turn the other cheek?

What else can one do when everyone else is wrong? brownie

Just be who we are and at the same time we need to cool it just a bit. Ever see people screaming at each other? No one can understand what they are even saying.

You agree with Saint, but you read mine and thought "WTF?"?

That's odd.

You do realize that I basically reiterated what Saint said, right? I suppose that I might have gone overboard when I added a bit of hyperbole in regards to the "mother is an ax murderer" comment .... but I thought that was understood as such. Sorry if I was wrong about that in your case.

Thank you for posting this! I completely agree. It's been very hard to wade through some of the posting on these boards the last couple of years because of the lack of civility. Even though I'm not a Browns fan, I've learned a lot about football and the Browns here. I hope this post works, I'd enjoy participating here more often again.

I do think people tend to forget the past in these kinds of conversations. I see very little change in the board from the very beginning on the Browns' sponsored message board. There has always been pretty fierce arguing and people going at it with each other. Some people like each other, some don't. Way more people used to go off and get suspended than they do now. The board is actually somewhat calmer than it was in the wild west days. wink

Some of that type of posting makes things a little more interesting and often funny, but I agree that too much of it is just irritating and boring eventually.

I understand the spirit of the post, but it won't change a thing. Human nature won't allow it.
