He just called completely different formations and plays for them, from different "sections" of the "playbook"

Ya... this guy gets. Other peeps like to try and pick fights on here over semantics which is worthless. The plays we ran when Manziel was the starter were very different. Read option garbage and such. It's not what our offense had been practicing most of the year.

You can select plays that leverage your players different talents without doing something completely different.

Kyle Shanahan still confident Johnny Manziel will be good: 'Johnny is a playmaker'

"That was the fewest amount of plays I think I've ever called in a game,'' said Shanahan. There wasn't anything that we did in that game that Johnny hadn't done before in training camp or practice, every single play in that game I called except for one, Brian (Hoyer) ran throughout the year.

I like that my overly sarcastic comment about Kyle basically having two play books is being used in this argument in favor of Kyle not having two playbooks..

It was last year I really dont care if they had a different playbook.

I think a big reason shanny wanted out was because Pettine was planning on taking more control of the offense and I highly doubt Shanny would have agreed to come here if that was presented at the start. I also think Pettine wanted to replace Shanny and the guys he brought in with the hiw own. QB was gonna be fired and the WR coach was gonna be fired and that was probably another part of the reason the breakup took place. Texting was just an excuse from both sides i think.

I just hope these guys can get it done this time around. Listening to Flip I came away with confidence in him. He isnt a Daboll or Carthon.

That's garbage. Lost a lot of respect for Shanny there. Manziel was terrible for sure but it was clear the whole team was a bit out of sync in those games and no that wasn't just all JFF. I distinctly remember the RBs running the wrong way on multiple plays.. team was not comfortable with those plays.

Yeah, I don't remember Hoyer running many read option plays where he had the option to run or QB draws.

I don't know if it was Shanahan or what, but I agree I don't think it was all JFF or Hoyer. Week 11 and 12 the offense went south. Timing and rhythm were all off. What surprised me most was they never recovered, and how defenses knew every play.

I guess one DC figured it out and everyone after saw it on film. Shanahan's last year in Washington produce similar results. In both cases, he was forced to get a new QB ready and deal with key injuries. Getting guys ready as oppose to maintaining timing/rhythm can very well skew things. I'm not knocking or excusing Shanahan. Sometime things happen and there really isn't a quick fix. Depth talent kills which was the case both in Washington and Cleveland.

Just playing devil's advocate here because I like finding loopholes.

He says every play but one was called this year for Hoyer. This begs the questions of how many times were they called and when. Technically if he call a play once in June minicamp for Hoyer then his statement is factual. Just saying.

So, what the hell was your point in posting that nonsense?

Are you saying that Shanny was a stooge? Are you saying that our offense should be much better next year.

when you have 2 different QB styles that may have opposite strengths and weaknesses, especially in arm strength, how does the entire team adjust? I am thinking of WR routes (especially timing), blocking, even handing off the ball to the RB? Or is there any difference? looking at a McCown vs. Manziel, I'd have to think McCown would understand the position and timing much better and know when and where to look. With JM still basically a rookie on the field [due to limited full game speed reps], how does an OC build a playbook?

Maybe this is more my question - is DeFilippo building a playbook right now - without knowing who his starter is or will be - or does he build it during training camp when he can actually see the QB's play?

You build an "entire playbook" then use sub sets of that playbook that best fit who is playing at the time. Just like all OC's do that have different styles of QB's.

To me it would be best for a team that has two QB's with the same skill set. At that point no adjustments are needed. But each teams coaches must play the hand they're dealt.

So yes, you build your playbook from the beginning. You accentuate different parts of the playbook depending on the skill set of what your personnel grouping dictates.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Excellent! Thanks for the answer and that makes sense.

When of the OC completes the playbook, who teaches the QB from that point forward? would that the the OC, the QB Coach, somebody else? Would our new QB coach be in charge of teaching JM the plays and working on the mechanics?

Bleeds.. could it possibly be that Shanny isn't lying, but rather JM called the plays in the huddle wrong? Didn't he have a problem with that earlier on?

Yeah, and I distinctly remember ONE play where the RB went the opposite way of JM. And people said it was JM who went the wrong way, not the RB. They even posted photos of that play.

Bleeds is simply making things up to fit his argument.

In defense of Hoyer and Manziel, I saw more miscommunication between the backs and the QB this year than any year and probably as much as i saw with the rest of the league combined. (atleast in the games i wastched) This isnt a shot at any QB, RB nor Shanny but this was happening often.

Well considering that 3 out of 4 were actually rooks, and the vet had little to no game experience, then its probably to be expected.

If they keep a significant amount of the offense intact, then we may be better off. We need to get to that year 3-4 in a scheme and then I think we see the results we are looking for.
