Yes it will be. Cecil Shorts to Cleveland fingerscrossed

Don't want to be a buzzkill, but Shorts drops a ton (a ton) of passes. Like Greg Little level case of the dropsies. I hope we don't sign him.

I expect Gibson and Robertson to be tendered. I wouldn't be shocked if the didn't tender Bademosi, but then tried to re-sign him at a lower salary.

I would agree IF we were running the same schemes they were drafted to play. These homegrown guys have been through 3 regime changes since being drafted.

- Sheard was drafted to be a 43DE.
- Rubin's contract was extended to be a 43DT.

Next year there will be some other homegrown players who will become FA who were drafted to play in a 43. Taylor, Winn, Hughes.

And this is another major problem. You can only develop and keep your talent if you have some stability and continuity in scheme. Switching from the 3-4 to the 4-3 and back to the 3-4 only means you have a hodge podge of talent that doesn't fit.

They weren't brought here to play the scheme they are playing in and their talents are best suited to play in a totally different D, and sometimes O.

To me, that's why FA signings are more important for us than they are some other teams. If you've had the same type of D and a similar O in place, you can develop drafted players and draft players, that fit what you are doing.

With a constant turnover in coaching, FO's and schemes, talent you drafted a few years ago don't even fit what you are running now, so that development simply doesn't work with a lot of the players that were drafted for other coaching groups.

#1 rubin was drafted in 2009 as a 3/4 NT

sheard? true enough but he was drafted to play the right side DE. he sucked at it and had to be moved to the left side to go up againts less capable RTs and RGs.

his year under horton had him playing the best ball i ever saw him play. this year he was playing on a bum ankle and he still wasnt near as bad as people think. i saw enough of him as a 3/4 linebacker to know i would have liked to see more. all letting him go was make another hole that we have to fill. If Sheard leaves and we sign someone (i.e. Trent Cole or Derrick Morgan), there is no hole.

We gave McCown $6.25M guaranteed.

I'd rather have Mallett.

I'm hoping that's the deal...just odd that its so late and still zero buzz about those guys...would hate to loose any of them with the amount of holes we still need filling... Hopefully things pick up here soon

I guess you are correct technically. But if the hole only existed for a few hours, is it really a hole?

I agree about dan Williams. ...but from what I understand the redskins are going to be going after him hard

I would love to sign Dan Williams and Cecil Shorts tomorrow.

Shorts might not be a #1 or even a solid #2 but he would still be a great signing for depth and competition.

I also am curious to know if we're still in the running to sign Brian Hartline?

Does anyone have an opinion on an OLB like Brian Orakpo? I really have not heard his name much. He's had a lot of injury history over the years so I'm not sure what kind of money he would demand, but him & Kruger together would be a nasty combination.

Damn, this is why I really value the members of this forum. Had to do the research but yes... I'm ashamed to have been pimping him now. In 2013, the only person to have more drops was the nut head we had here, Davone Bass. I believe Shorts was targeted more than most WR which couldn't have helped the dropsies.

For sure not as warm and fuzzy feeling regarding Shorts as I once had. Thanks man for the info.

He plays Scrabble with Cavemen.

He is injured often.

I would take him on nothing more than a one year deal.

Yeah, I don't think Shorts is very good either.

Which is why I prefer Hartline to him.

To that end, I'm sure we'll end up with Shorts.

Would you rather have no one? Because that's who we'd have if we had waited till tomorrow, seeing as Mallett signed today..

Unless you wanted to trade for Cassell..

We didn't negotiate with any of the already signed players because we got McCown.

Matt Moore, Jake Locker, Michael Vick, and Christian Ponder are all still available.

McCown was literally the last QB I wanted.

The only people that are actually allowed to negotiate are players and the team they were on..

And just because we signed McCown doesn't mean we still didn't talk to other QBs.

Maybe we called Mallett and they said he's going back to Houston..

Revis isn't going to trade in New England for Cleveland unless we make him the highest paid player in NFL history, and for a team not expected to compete for anything next year, that wouldn't make sense.

It's certainly fun to think about though thumbsup

Yeah, pretty much.

The NFL set up this "negotiation" period, but told teams they couldn't "offer" a contract..

Makes sense.

Players agents can start talking to other teams on March 7th I'm pretty sure, but they can't officially sign until tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.

I wonder if we've reached out to anyone as of yet?

My understanding was they simply couldn't negotiate directly with the player but could negotiate with their agent.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
