He's not a reporter or anything, but obviously with his connections to OSU, he wouldn't just float that out there. Hartline may be throwing him a bone. I haven't seen anything from any of the football reporters I follow. Of course the local reporters are sitting on their hands watching 80's Browns good old days tapes, somewhere.

Yes, I approve of this signing. Not sure of the money side of it, but I think Hartline is a pretty good WR.

Nice move by the Browns.

lol, sorry bro but you was clowning the FO this weekend saying something "since hartline is actually good, the FO won't sign him"

Nice signing. It will be interesting to see what money was given, but I think BH is a solid WR. The Browns need to sign one more vet like him, and put Hawk in the slot full time, and we will be fine. I prefer drafting WRs in the middle rounds and developing them and using high round picks on Defense/QB (if they have to take one).

Was Hartline hurt last year? What was the reason for his huge drop in production? Landry's arrival?

It's pretty sad that Gordon couldn't keep his head on straight.

He would be your clear #1, with support from Hawk, Hartline, Gabriel with either another WR or TE addded via the draft (maybe both)

I don't have to have anything. I call them as I see them. I am not playing the Regime Wars like so many are. If it is a bad move, I will say so. If it is a good move, I will say so.............and I don't care what you think about it.

Not a huge splash! But Hartline is a possession receiver that will help move the chains.

Meh.

It's good to have another WR to push the depth chart down, but I don't think he's a difference maker. He's good, not very good or great.

Two years, six million is pretty great. How much did Miles Austin make in 2014?

So much for Rosenhaus trying to screw us. . .

Decent signing at a position of need. That is what FA is about. Fill in weak areas.

As for Hartline, a decent player......no beefs here

Well, there is the two-three TD a year WR the front office coveted. No need to sign or draft anyone else.... We're saved. *snicker* Six seasons he's scored 12 touchdowns. Two a year. He does have two 1000 yard seasons... So he's an improvement over the NOTHING we had before. But if this is the only WR help they bring in, then they FAILED us yet again. It's a start. Now go out and sign a guy that SCORES. Draft another. Get some real WEAPONS.

Nice signing. Dependable receiver and has nice size. He can be a solid #2 WR for us.

Here's an article that discussed a couple of reasons for his drop in production...

In 2014 the Miami Dolphins threw to Brian Hartline 62 times.

In 2013 and 2012, he was targeted 130 and 125 times (all according to ESPN Stats and Information).

The difference from ’13 to ’14? A new coordinator in Bill Lazor, who simply did not utilize Hartline as much as he had been used, focusing instead on Mike Wallace and rookie Jarvis Landry — both targeted 111 times, and neither topping 1,000 yards.

I highly doubt this is the only WR they add. I would guess Brian replaces Miles on the roster.....right?

Brian Hartline agrees to deal with Cleveland Browns
Dan Hanzus
Around the NFL Writer

The Cleveland Browns have made their first splash of free agency.

NFL Media's Albert Breer reported Monday that the Browns and wide receiver Brian Hartline have agreed to a two-year, $6 million deal, according to his agent. Hartline played his first six seasons with the Dolphins before being released last month.

Dustin Fox of the Browns Radio Network had the first report.

Hartline -- an Ohio native who played his college ball at Ohio State -- should slide into Cleveland's starting lineup as an outside receiver in a Josh Gordon-free offense. Hartline had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2012 and 2013, but fell off considerably last season, finishing with just 39 receptions for 474 yards and two touchdowns.

It's not a flashy signing by the Browns, but Hartline does give the offense a proven possession receiver who still should have some spring in his legs at 28.

Yeah, he's legit. Part of Orange & Brown report. He's right on stuff a good amount of the time.

yep worst receiver out there, forget that they change OC and scheme last year and catered to Mike Wallace... it has no bearing on anything... doesn't matter last FA to sign here anyway so you are good right?

Great move! thumbsup Now if we can nab Cecil Shorts for a similar 2-3 year contract, I'd be a very happy camper and feel much better about our WRs going into next year. While no clear vertical threat, we would have a crew with solid route running and catching ability! Reminiscent of the kind of WRs that the Patriots field. Now all we need is our very own Tom Brady!

Hartline also graded out as 4th worst FA WR out of ~60 from PFF, that might explain his loss of targets too.

It's a decent depth signing, but nothing more. He's not a good starting WR, averaging 2 TDs a season.

Who is going to score in the RZ? It won't be Hartline....Gabriel? Hawkins?

I hope he's just the Austin replacement....

I don't think anyone thinks Hartline will be our #1 WR, more of a #2 WR which he has been able to play decently well.
