Patriots not picking up Darrelle Revis' $20M option The Darrelle Revis watch has taken a key turn. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday that the New England Patriots will not pick up the All-Pro cornerback's $20 million option for 2015, according to a source informed of the team's thinking. The move leaves Revis free to speak with interested suitors come Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET. We fully expect the Jets to pursue their former star defender. The New York Daily News reported last week that team owner Woody Johnson has been involved in "serious internal discussions" with new Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan to make a heavy push for Revis. The Patriots were never a guarantee to pick up Revis' enormous option, but Rapoport was told New England will continue to negotiate with the Pro Bowl cover man who helped lead them to glory in Super Bowl XLIX. In another development, the Patriots also have reportedly given cornerback Brandon Browner permission to explore his trade market around the NFL. Around The NFL will have more on this story soon. The latest Around The NFL Podcast breaks down the Brandon Marshall trade and plays another game of "Go Get My Lunch." Find more Around The NFL content on NFL NOW. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000...evis-20m-optionAnyone want him on the other side of Haden?

Want him? Sure.
Would he come here? Nope.
Will he most likely stay in the AFC East? Yup.

This should probably be in the free agent thread.
But yes, Punchsmack is 100% correct.
Unless we're willing to pay him MORE than $20 million a season, he won't even think about Cleveland.
Why in his right mind would he trade in New England for Cleveland?
It's fun to think about, him and Haden, but it's not going to happen.

Just gave up big bucks on Joe Haden's contract and surrendered a high pick for another corner.
If we are going to pay a free agent corner, I'd want it to be Buster cause it clearly won't be as of a demanding money number as Revis.
Revis is still elite though. In really all honesty - he'd probably want to be going to a contender anyway.

I know we've all speculated about it before he signed with the Pats of the Haden and Revis combo at corner, and the thought is still as equally intriguing in my eyes today as then. Just load the box, even if they are going spread offense lol, and just blitz every single down cause two of the teams best WR's are going to pretty much be a non-factor with Haden and Revis. As if they weren't really even on the field at all. Williams, Gilbert and the safeties can pick up the scraps on Pettine's man-press scheme. You know Jim and Pettine want him! They ask a crapload of our corner backs by man press, no help over the top assignments. JMO

I agree that we would want him, but so does everyone else. The Revis shipped sailed (to Revis Island) the minute we drafted Gilbert.

I cannot imagine Revis trading in New England for Cleveland....
I also cannot imagine Farmer/Haslam shelling out that kind of money for a position that we're already deep at.
Just re-sign Skrine, give him his $7.5 million a year....

$7.5 Mill might not be enough. I've seen speculation that he will be paid like a top 15 CB in the league and maybe in the $10 Million range..... It's one reason I asked the question of posters - what's your max offer to Skrine. Do you pay him close to the money (or more) than Cromartie or Cox get?
The more things change the more they stay the same.

I don't think I would pay Skrine $10 million a year, hell we can throw that kind of money at a pass rusher such as Hughes or Orakpo....
If we lose Skrine I think drafting a mid-round CB is an absolute must just to keep cycling youth through the system...

If we draft a mid-round corner I want Gunter or Rowe. Rowe isn't as physical and not a great tackler but he's faster than Gunter. Gunter plays press very well, though.

Report: Browns interested in Darrelle Revis Posted by Josh Alper on March 10, 2015, 10:20 AM EDT The Patriots didn’t exercise their option on cornerback Darrelle Revis’s contract for the 2015 season, which leaves him on track to become a free agent at 4 p.m. ET if they don’t come to agreement on a new deal. The Jets, Revis’s original NFL team, are expected to make a run at bringing him back and the local tabloids are gearing up for a battle between the AFC East teams for his services. Another team with a tie to Revis may try to get into the mix, however. Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the Browns have expressed interest in Revis. Mike Florio reported in January that the Browns were expected to put their hat in the ring if Revis made it to free agency. Revis played for Browns coach Mike Pettine when Pettine was the defensive coordinator of the Jets, which is likely something that Cleveland hopes would entice him to Ohio. It’s no surprise to hear that the Browns would be interested in one of the top players to hit the market, but it would be a surprise to see Revis wind up in Cleveland as long as the Jets and Patriots remain interested. The Patriots give him a better chance to win and the Jets can offer him a massive deal thanks to the cap space they carved out by not making big bids for Revis or too many other players last offseason. link

The Browns' interest in Revis is real. They tried to go after him last year too, remember? The question is whether he wants to come to Cleveland. He played for Pettine but I bet he'd want to go to a proven winner.

Waiting for somebody to yell April Fool! Revis in Cleveland? My mind shut down. I cannot imagine it. Willing to consider it, but thought this would be a real bidding war we would just watch . . . .

...he'd want to go to a proven winner. Heck, even a "proven average" team has a better shot of landing Revis. This isn't a "Factory of Sadness" comment, just stating how it is. He just played and won a Super Bowl....why come to a team that only had 7 wins last year, doesn't have a QB, plays in a TOUGH division, and hasn't had a winning season since he was born? And yes, 2-3 of the AFC East teams want him too. Unless he grew up in Cleveland, which I don't think is the case, I don't see how he'd ever come here. Well, unless he's only chasing one last big payday....even then, I'd sign just about anywhere other than Cleveland if I were him.

The defensive play book and play calling would be a lot different. As I indicated earlier, let the blitz fest go from beginning, middle and to the end!
Last year when Kruger basically U-571 torpedoed Drew Breez close to the endzone, we'd see a ton of that as that was a coverage sack.

Revis got his Superbowl ring.
Maybe the idea of playing for Mike Pettine, next to Joe Haden, and for $15 million a year would entice him?
Who knows, but it's fine to think about.
Guys like Revis don't happen to Cleveland, so I'm not getting my hopes up.
But man it would be awesome having four pro-bowl players starting in our secondary, huh?

One can only dream Haden and Revis Island. IDK maybe they throw the extra cash at him and it ends up happening. We get better up front via the draft and this defense could be exciting.

Haden island....LOL
It should be Haden peninsula, conecting the receiver with the goal line.
Haden allways fails in crucial plays.

Browns discussion on Revis was short and sweet https://twitter.com/LaneAdkins*Reenactment* (Phone rings) Revis: "Hello?" Browns: Hey, Revis. It's the Cleveland Bro--." Revis: (Dial tone) Browns: "Hello?,....hello?" I kid....I kid...

Honestly, I'd rather lock up skrine long term than to fool around the the Revis headache. There is a reason the patriots cut him. He has probably lost a step or two.
