I expected him to leave. Didn't want it to happen, but expected it.

Wonder if we sign another veteran? Or now possibly draft a CB in the 2nd or 3rd round in case Gilbert cannot get his act together? Was really hoping to get him back though.

Best of luck to him, except when he plays us, of course.
I don't see it as a super great loss, however. It's the sort of thing we can overcome easily if we've done our homework.

Now this one disappoints me.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I liked Buster, but he was tiny and good for what seemed like 1-2 cheesy PI/holding calls a game. For some reason, he was a marked man in the eyes of the refs.

If the Jets got Skrine, does this take them out of the running for Revis as well? I'm sure Skrine is getting $7 or $8 million a year to go there (as it was rumored we offered him $6.5 to stay).

Very disappointed Buster became a pretty good CB here in Cleveland ...

I expected him to leave. Didn't want it to happen, but expected it. That's where I was at with the situation. he only got $13M guaranteed, too bad we didn't beat that. Maybe he liked the opportunity in NY better?

Who wouldn't want to trade in Cleveland for New York City? Just saying...
I appreciate how hard Buster worked while he was here. The Jets just got themselves a hard working gem. Not elite, but tough...

If you're gonna be a build through the draft an invest all your eggs in that one basket, you damn better be able to keep your own guys.

All the numbers I keep seeing is 4 years / $25 million, $13 million guaranteed. I thought he'd get more.

wow, there better be some huge deal coming, because if they are selling us a dream on Gilbert, it ain't working.

All the numbers I keep seeing is 4 years / $25 million, $13 million guaranteed. I thought he'd get more. Yep - those are not the numbers I expected to see. Either the FO has more faith in Gilbert, Desir and Williams than I do - or maybe he likes the bright lights of NYC or he just wanted out... No doubt this will feed the 'dysfunction is rife' crowd.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

Good luck Buster. With Gilbert off in LA LA land, I'd say we have a need now at corner. It better had been for a high dollar contract because if we didn't retain him... Ugh!

Very likeable guy that was way overrated because of it among Browns fans.
Has been way too inconsistent and lacks coverage smarts drawing too many flags again and again and again. Good, reliable tackler though.
There are many FA CBs out there that are at least as good if not better: House, Jackson, Culliver, Cox...

With Justin Gilbert, Kewan Williams, and Pierre Desir I think we will be alright. I just hope JAX doesn't go to high on their offer for T. Gibson, and we don't match, falling in love with that early 2nd we would get.

Well, right now we have a big fat hole at corner. And in Pettines NPD, corner is the most important position on this defense. Farmer better do something to shore up that spot. Skrine wasn't a top five player, but he was solid and better than anyone else we had to play opposite Haden. Lots of signings and movement in the league and of course we won't participate.

We may bring in a FA or a 3rd day draft pick but Gilbert is going to get his shot along with Desir ...

Bummer to see him go. I hope that the guys we have in house can step up to fill his shoes. I have a feeling that this setback won't be as bad as some of us think.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Didn't we sign Hartline? I think guys here are going to be glass half full or half empty regardless of what we do.
Didn't the Tampa Bay Bucs win the best FA success last year. Did them real good...lol

Yeah Eo, theres alot of truth in that...and theres always going to be some players tha some love, and some hate (different obersvations and opinions) I knew the Bucs were superbowl bound when they signed O'neil Cousins haha But yeah they got Verner and Michael Johnson, Johnson more or less was really disappointing...WR Louis Murphy had a good year for them (was the reason they beat the Steelers) but yeah...I guess you dont know what you sign, however I would like to see them try harder and considering we always play it safe and always have a ton of cap space and always produce lack luster seasons...I wouldnt mind them bucking the trend and seeing if that perhaps helps (go big in FA and land some big time talent(s)) I guess we all shall see

I really liked the Hartline signing. I like what players have said about Pettine in their visits.
I still say he's a Super Star in the making.
Continuity is going to be key. I know the O is changing but not by that much. Looking forward to our starting 5 on the OL. Gipson back also.
I don't expect more than 1 or two FA to sign that will mean anything. The rest will be bottom of the barrel stuff.
Got to keep building through the draft. We added Bitonio, West, Crowell, Kirksey, DeSir, Williams, Gabriel last year. We got two first rounders who seem to be getting their head together. We had a D gelling and coming back - it will all come down to Manziel progressing or not.
And we just are in the official FA period for a couple of hours now.
jmho 7-9 best start of a new Regime. Best record since 2007. Yeah I'm moping about how sorry we are. We have no hope! lol

Buster was a good corner and I'm sad to see him go but I don;t think we're overly screwed. While he made great strides, he is always going to be picked on because he's a small corner.
Its a loss but not a devastating one. Im doubtful that Gilbert is ready to make the leap to number 2 corner but Williams played well enough last year that he's earned first crack at the starting lineup.
I'll keep fingers crossed for Revis.

We don't play them this year. We also don't have Shanahan this year. We have a rookie OC who has NEVER called plays in the NFL. Oh, and we have McCown, a QB that has lost twice as many games as he's won.

If I had to spend $20 million I would rather spend it on DeMarco Murray, and Michael Crabtree, then add a couple of million and add Clay. Those three would cost $25 million and would put us in a better spot. Don't get me wrong I'm not asking for this to happen just saying $20 million is an awful lot for one guy.
