The Bucs were hailed as the FA winners last year.
Just fill a piece here and there that is it. I'm fine with Hartline and McCown for now.
Gresham - I thought this guy was going to be the next great TE coming from college. Don't know what happened to him. I wouldn't mind him here at all. But we are being cautious. Right guy at the right price.
These trades have been real intriguing though I must admit a very entertaining first day.

There is no solution in free agency at the quarterback position. Teams do let go of franchise quarterbacks. You can get backups. Maybe take a flyer on a guy with injuries. But generally you have to draft quarterbacks.
My position is very clear. Manziel is a total question mark. I have never said he was a bust. I thought he was never worthy of a first round grade. He has done nothing to distinguish himself in his first year. At this point the Browns must take a position with him. That being; he is on the team and under contract. His future is unclear. Whatever we get from him we accept.
However, you can not look at Manziel and project him as the future leader of this team.
If Farmer and management determine that Mariota is the guy they want. They should make every effort to get him.
Knowing that next year could well be McCown with the possibility that Mariota or Manziel could end up playing.
They can not be afraid to fail because of their history with quarterbacks.
Because in the end they are going no place fast until they get a ten year solution at quarterback.

Browns reportedly very interested in Dolphins TE Charles Clay, who has the transition tag | cleveland.com http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ss...t_story_packageCLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns are reportedly very interested in Dolphins tight end Charles Clay, who received the rare transition tag last week. Former Browns senior editor Vic Carucci, now with the Buffalo News, reported that the Bills are looking to structure the strongest possible offer sheet for Clay, and that the Browns are also interested in him. Clay, a converted fullback, received the one-year tender that would pay him $7.071 million in 2015 -- the average of the top 10 tight end salaries in the NFL. If the Browns and/or Bills make an offer, the Dolphins would have seven days to match. The transition tag is seldom used in the NFL, but the Browns used it last year on Alex Mack and matched Jacksonville's lucrative offer to keep him. The Browns would not owe Miami any compensation if they sign him. The Browns are in the market to replace tight end Jordan Cameron, who could be lost in free agency this week. Head of football operations Mike Tannenbaum identified Clay as one of the players the Dolphins want to retain. Clay has 127 receptions for 1,364 yards and nine touchdowns over the past two seasons. Cameron is also still in the mix for the Browns, a source told Northeast Ohio Media Group.

I'd say I agree with everything you wrote and there is a part of me that is hoping for a Mariota move (or he drops). But 2 first round picks is all I want to give up if we do make a move. More than that and I don't believe its worth is. Having said that, the longer JM is in rehab and apparently taking that commitment more seriously than I ever imagined when news first broke, perhaps there is hope he can take a giant step forward (lord knows it does need to be a giant step!).
From your first post I thought you were painting a different picture.

And in an ironic twist of events, Brown's coaches are texting Farmer as to who to offer contracts to. Unfortunately, Farmer has T-Mobile and doesn't have service in rural areas such as Cleveland.

For what he did in the SB? I'm willing to deal with whatever issue he has. Dude was straight up wrecking.
2 carries for 45 yards and 1 catch for 5 yards. Is this JFF type 'wrecking it'? He did return a kick for a TD, but he'll not want to be signed for ST $. Guy hasn't done much of anything notable lately. He's a head case. Pats would be a good landing spot for him. He'd be a malcontent on the Browns.

So what you are saying is during the past season Farmer was only texting the staff during away games. I'm sure the staff loved the home games.

Haslam: Browns likely to be “playing less in free agency” Posted by Mike Wilkening on February 12, 2015, 11:12 AM EDTIn an interview with club beat reporters Wednesday, Browns owner Jimmy Haslam seemed to indicate the team wouldn’t be particularly active in the free agent market.“I think you’ll see us playing less in free agency,” Haslam said, according to Tom Reed of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. If the Browns are selective in free agency, it will be by choice. They have the financial flexibility to be big players. According to Spotrac.com, the Browns have $47.8 million in projected salary cap space for 2015. Per NFLPA figures, this includes $18.9 million in cap space carried over from last year. Link

Other teams that didn't sign a free agent today (other than guys that were cut or their own guys):
Baltimore Ravens Green Bay Packers New England Patriots Pittsburgh Steelers Seattle Seahawks
Everything will be okay. We are still allowed to sign players after today.

Skrine is the only one so far and he took less to go elsewhere (reportedly).
There are some very concerning things happening, not signing anyone yet is not one of them.

JC...I actually like Perish Cox a lot...I watched him play and wanted him late in the draft that year...Plays like a safety, yet covers like a corner...will close fast, was a great returner too...firm tackler...however had I think 3 run ins with the law at college and had I believe 7 children with different females prior to the draft...all caused him to slide

I believe 7 children with different females prior to the draft...all caused him to slide I hope he can be that productive on the field (if we sign him). I can't find anything online that agrees with that statement though. Cox has definitely had some legal trouble in the past, but has never been convicted of anything.

For free agents who are actually in demand, I would think we're a hard sell. Maligned city, dysfunctional franchise, no clear quarterback and hence no obvious prospects for short term success. Pettine is really our only card, aside from overpaying. I cringe to think about Farmer and Haslam trying to close a deal. Hartline is a homer, and maybe we were lucky to get him. It is hard not to be depressed.

Don't mean to be Redundant but for those that think the SB runs through the FA signing period. I don't remember a Team winning a Championship building through FA.
Just to remind all - Last years FA declared Winners were the Tampa Bay Bucs...you know the team that is picking overall #1 this year.
Man...come guys really? Maybe a piece here and a piece there. If the money is right. jmho

I think sitting out FA is both good and bad. The Browns need to bring in high character guys, no more Gordon's JF;s Gilberts. I think you can add pieces but FA is a stop gap. Good players are almost always retained, its important to remember that. If I were the Browns I would be trying my best to land Demarco we are going to need to be great at running the ball and while I'm quite pleased with the baby backs we need a bell cow running back and DeMarco is all that and then some. I'm not panicked about the lack of activity from the FO I don't view the top prospects in FA as worth the price aside from Murray that is.

The Browns owner and HC have said that the Browns need a QB.
Farmer and Haslam over paid to land a 35 yr old QB who went 1-10 as a starter last season...there, the problem is fixed, right?
Sorry, but I'm very unimpressed with this front office.
The best QB available was Nick Foles and the Browns didn't even sniff that option.
My fear..the Browns make a deal with Philly for Bradford, helping Philly land Mariota.
I plead with the football gods, please NO..NO Bradford.

You don't get it do you. We were losing Hoyer they weren't going to wait for Hoyer to test the market they went and got somebody they liked. Its not an answer to the QB position its replacing Hoyer. Pure and simple. We'll see if that was an upgrade. Does it appear that Manziel will get the opportunity...heck yeah.
Foles is not the end all. I wouldn't have minded getting him here. But you don't get it. This isn't some MADDEN game where trades are good cause the stats won't change. Its about building a team with the right pieces.
Let me just tell you this. Who are the Eagles going for? Mariotta Did it ever occur to you that a team they are talking with to move up expressed the desire for Bradford in the deal so they went and made it happen - or told them what if we got Bradford? Did we have Bradford?
Stop your whining boo hoo we didn't get all these FA signings. It means SQUAT. We got two pieces - One to upgrade on Hoyer the other to upgrade on Austin.
Who knows what that had meant about QB it wasn't reflecting on our investment with Manziel it was a statement of fact.
We need one. We go with Manziel if he ain't the guy we will keep on investing. Yep, Foles was the answer just like Cousins was the answer last year. We're doomed now.

Why are you worried we make a play for Bradford? In this same rant you said the QB problem was fixed now and we won't do anything else in regards to the QB position. I keep seeing that on this board. Why in God's name does signing McCown mean we are done with the position? It does not. Doesn't mean we make another move with the position, but does not mean we won't. Did we have a chance to sniff the Foles deal? They got Bradford for Foles. Do we have a similar commodity we could have offered Philly instead? And this does not help Philly get Mariota at all. If anything, they are further away from getting him now than they were two days ago.

McCown is not an upgrade on Hoyer certainly you don't believe that? Nor is Hartline an upgrade on Austin. Without a QB to throw them the ball it won't matter anyway.
I honestly think this organization is working on next years draft and McCown is insurance to make sure we pick 1st.
They will run with JF and if he stinks (likely) they can throw McCown in and he will seal the deal for the Browns to land the much hoped for franchise QB at the top of next years draft.
It's the only possible strategy from my POV..

EO...stop your BS..
You are agreeing with me that McCown is a huge question mark, so stop pretending that he is an upgrade over Hoyer...he is not!...based on his play last season vs Hoyer's play last season.
So we agree, McCown is a step down...
We both agree that Nick Foles was a possibility and our front office was obviously not interested.
..and on this quote of yours...
"Let me just tell you this. Who are the Eagles going for? Mariotta Did it ever occur to you that a team they are talking with to move up expressed the desire for Bradford in the deal so they went and made it happen - or told them what if we got Bradford? Did we have Bradford?

OBVIOUSLY, IT DID OCCUR TO ME, I FEAR THAT TEAM MIGHT BE THE BROWNS!

Why in God's name does signing McCown mean we are done with the position? It does not. Doesn't mean we make another move with the position, but does not mean we won't Indeed! I do not have an answer as to how to proceed further, but I simply do not believe we are finished (or satisfied) addressing the QB position...

Whether its their last move or not I seriously doubt any real FA players will seriously consider playing here with all the turmoil that has happened this offseason already.

Now, the team Philly is dealing with gives up a first and second round pick from this draft for Bradford, and the Eagles use those picks to help them get up the draft board to land Mariota.
Do you get it now?
