Let's say hypothetically we sign Bowe and these two are sitting there at 12. Who would you prefer? Personally I go Parker. Even though Shelton may turn out to be the better player I just feel the drop-off from Parker to the next WR is too large compared to DT where Malcolm Brown or Eddie Goldman could be had

I feel the WR class is deeper than that. I would much prefer Shelton at #12 and Jaelen Strong at #19. I mean if you feel taking a WR in round 1 is needed.

I just don't think Shelton will be there at #12.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Assuming we sign Bowel, I'm taking Shelton without a doubt..

Even if we don't sign Bowe, Someone ridiculous would have to fall to 12 for me to pass up on Shelton..

Barring something crazy like Williams at 12 or something, I'm taking Shelton if he's there.

if Shelton is there then I'd take Shelton.

If Kevin White/Amari Cooper are there then that will cause a tougher choice.

This is very tempting...and I have an odd feeling that Parker is going to be better or as good as the other two WRs...But I'd lean towards Shelton and like someone else stated pray Jaelen Strong is there at #19

I go Parker without any hesitation. I think he is the better player. Infact I believe Parker is the 2nd best player in the draft behind Leonard Williams. When I project these kids, The way NFL teams are forced to stack in the redzone, having a weapon like Parker that can just go up and take the ball at its high point makes him invaluable.

Now Shelton is a tremendous player but I just see a solid player and you arent gonna go wrong with him but Parker has a much higher ceiling.

I take Parker or Cooper over Shelton if either are available.

Shelton is really good at rushing the passer but he isn't as stout vs the run as I would like. I would rather have Malcom Brown over Shelton personally. If we could get Parker or Cooper then hope Brown falls to 19. I would much prefer Parker/Brown over Shelton/Strong

I think that a massive DT would have a bigger impact on this team than a WR would. I think that we would go defense in that situation.

Parker and it's not close.

Shelton is not Ngata, Suh, Dareus, or McCoy. He cannot be on the field during pass downs. . . which is like 2/3 of the time. I want my first round pick to be on the field as much as possible.

Parker is pretty raw, but has ridiculous hands and leaping ability. He also has size and is pretty quick as well. I think he is a better version of Kelvin Benjamin.

Man, a better version of Kelvin Benjamin is a potential top 5 NFL WR.

If that's true, the Browns will probably take him.

I completely agree on Parker but I'm surprised about this. I actually think Sheltons biggest weakness is he isn't very stout. He plays like a 43 LE in a NT body. Id think he'd be perfect for the middle on passing downs to push the pocket but I'd be afraid to put him in the nose on short yardage.

These two observations pretty much sum up my opinion on the two players. What I'll add is this. If we take Parker at 12 I don't go interior DL at 19. I wait and take Grady Jarrett in round 3. He's more stout at the point of attack than Shelton, and his athleticism is under appreciated.

Philosophically, I think you take the DL over the WR almost every time, because in football, controlling the LOS is paramount in importance. But that assumes that Shelton is as good a DT as Parker is a WR, and I don't think he is. From my limited viewing and reading about the two players Shelton is among the top interior D-Linemen in the draft, but IMO, Parker is the top WR in this draft. He may not be a "generational player", like Megatron, but he is a rare talent. So I say take Parker at 12 and then take an arguably equally-talented DT at 19 with Malcom Brown.

(Its off the point, but it made me a little sick to watch Parker's highlights and see who was throwing him the ball the year before last.)

Grab the WR! We need a WR more so than a DL and I don't think the WR talent is as deep as others make it out to be outside the big three.

Besides, Shelton just simply won't be there by the time we get put on the clock.

DeVante Parker, easily. This team lacks playmakers, always has since '99. I see Parker having a bigger impact on the Browns than Shelton. Shelton is more of a rotational D-lineman, imo.

From what I saw, neither is worth the pick.

Watch this: http://draftbreakdown.com/video/devante-parker-vs-fsu-2014/

Parker is a lazy player, doesn't catch anything thrown between his hips and legs, no effort run blocking. Pushes off several times to get separation and his route running stinks, no quickness in his breaks. Lazy is his game, sorry, the tape doesn't lie.

Shelton otoh, I like his motor and hustle, but he's not dominant in anything he does, but he seems like a decent bet to make it in the NFL, but not star caliber.

This is a deep wide receiver class, and honestly, our best chance at being competitive this season is if we can stop the run on defense, and run the football effectively on offense. Taking Danny Shelton at #12 is a no brainer for me UNLESS someone like Amari Cooper or Marcus Mariota is still on the board, then I'm thinking a little bit...

Stop the run. Run the football.

Upgrading the trenches on both sides is our only shot at competing this year.

We need a wide receiver but this team needs DL to stop the run. It's been an ongoing problem since we've come back in the league. It's time we addressed it and solve it.

We should be able to get a top DL @ #12, one of these guys, Shelton, Brown, Goldman, Armstead, and Philips should be available ... thumbsup

I do really like Arik Armstead.

I wouldn't cry if we took Shelton at #12 AND Arik Armstead at #19....

It would be nice to get 2 top players at 1 position back to back but this team has needs at other positions. We need better talent at WR,CB,LB and OT as well as DL. This is the end result when you draft poorly in the 1st rd year after year.

The great or bad thing about this FO is you have no IDEA what direction they want to go... Shoot maybe they don't even know and it will depend on what happens with the first 11 picks or any trade possibilities, etc.

This one is a tough call for me, I'd love for them to take Parker at 12 and then Maxx Williams at 19 and be set on offense for the next 5 years with young skilled players at RB, TE, and WR but then I think to myself does it really matter if we have young talented skilled players if we don't have a QB... So then I go back to just build a dominate D and worry about the QB and skilled positions later in the draft or next year and take Shelton and Dupree or any combination of the highest rated pass rusher/DL.

I have to say... you are way off base here. First of all here was his stat line in that game. Louisville vs. FSU - Rec:8, Yrds:214, Avg:26.8 Lng:71. Secondly this was his second game of the season after missing the first seven contest of the year due to foot injury. Thirdly, he was primarily defended by PJ Williams, comfortably ranked within the top 50 of all prospects this season. When not being defended by Williams he was defended by Ronald Darby who might be just outside of the top 100 players in FCS football. I will grant you that Parker pushed off on some plays but you way overstate this as if he's being flagged for OPI constantly. He didn't draw one flag for it! His effort was solid. He contested balls over the middle and won his share of them. On other throws he fought for and won a number of them using his physicality.

I invite anyone to view the link you supply and see if they reach the conclusions that you do. I don't think that's likely.

For the record, I began this off season feeling the team would need a major investment in the DL to solve last years glaring run and pass rush deficiencies. With more consideration I think some but not excessive investment in DL is needed. That opens the possibility of addressing the WR position early. It doesn't have to be Parker but he certainly is in the conversation.

NFL mock draft 2015 roundup: Danny Shelton a popular pick for Browns and Marcus Mariota dropping?

http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2015/03/nfl_mock_drafts_who_are_the_br.html

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- There is a theme developing in mock drafts as they pertain to the Browns: the run defense was really bad last season. You don't need me to tell you that. All you need is a pair of eyeballs and the ability to cringe whenever a running back goes untouched for five or more yards -- like every time.

How do you fix an abysmal run defense? Signing Randy Starks isn't a terrible start. That can't be all, though. So, as we often do in these parts, we turn our attention to the NFL Draft.

A little over a week ago, you and I had a little heart-to-heart about Danny Shelton, a beast of a man who played college football for Washington. Now, as we check in once again with various mock drafts, Shelton's name is popping up for the Browns at both Nos. 12 and 19.

CBS Sports' Pete Prisco has Shelton coming to Cleveland at No. 19, after going wideout at 12:

12. Kevin White, WR, West Virginia

They have to get a big-play receiver, and this kid is that.

19. Danny Shelton, NT, Washington

I like the idea of them adding a power player inside, even with the signing of veteran Randy Starks.

Which two players mentioned would you like to see the Browns draft?
DeVante ParkerKevin WhiteEreck FlowersLa'el CollinsMarcus MariotaAlvin DupreeJaelen StrongMalcom BrownT.J. ClemmingsDanny Shelton
VoteView Results

In fact, it's an entire movement in the offices of CBS Sports. See Dane Brugler's mock:

12. Danny Shelton, DT, Washington

Cleveland needs to revamp the front-seven in order to stop the run and a good place to start is at nose tackle. Shelton won't have the same type of production in the NFL like he did at Washington, but he should be a long-term anchor for a three-man front.

19. Alvin Dupree, DE, Kentucky

The Browns addressed the front-seven at pick No. 12 (Danny Shelton) and could do so again with a pass rusher at No. 19. Dupree is a tremendous athlete for his size and adds a dynamic element to Mike Pettine's defense.

Mel Kiper's most recent mock is from March 5, but he's on the Shelton-to-the-Browns bandwagon as well:

12. Danny Shelton, DT, Washington

Teams ran consistently and effectively on the Browns last season, and it started in the middle of the line, where they just didn't have the block-eaters after Phil Taylor was lost with an injury. And while we know the Browns need to add at least one pass-catcher who can come in and help early, Shelton landing here would be a gift. He's not as disruptive as sack and TFL totals indicate, but he can eat up double-teams at the point of attack and make others around him better. He has great awareness and will occasionally simply discard blocks and make the tackle himself. He can also eat up snaps. At 340 pounds, he's exactly what the Browns need in the middle.

19. Ereck Flowers, OT, Miami (FL)

I can see Browns fans cringing at the thought of a first round with two picks that doesn't deliver a wide receiver. But let's remember this draft is packed with pass-catching talent, and if the board breaks this way I think the Browns could target a potential high-impact offensive lineman rather than taking the fifth receiver available at No. 19 overall. The Browns were really set back on offense last year when they lost Alex Mack, and while Flowers isn't a center, a player like him would have helped offset the brutal ripple effect we saw last year. For a team that has to run the ball to be successful on offense, making sure things are in a good place up front is crucial. The Browns can still get a couple of good pass-catchers from this draft.

NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah is Team Shelton (and Team Kiper):

12. Danny Shelton, DT, Washington

Shelton is a dominating run defender and fills a void in the Browns' defense.

19. Ereck Flowers, OT, Miami (FL)

This isn't a sexy pick, but Flowers is a Day 1 starter at right tackle.

Walter Football has the Browns picking ... well, you know this by now:

12. Danny Shelton, NT, Washington

Cleveland was atrocious against the run to close out the season. Part of the reason for that was incompetent play from the defensive line. It didn't help that Phil Taylor, who struggled early, missed the second half of the year with a knee injury. He has literally been a huge disappointment. The same goes for Ahtyba Rubin.

I've had Danny Shelton as high as No. 5 before, so being able to grab him at the 12th selection is a steal. I just couldn't find a home for him in the top 10. I considered Chicago, but Kevin White seems like the better prospect.

19. Ereck Flowers, OT, Miami

The Browns have expressed a desire to fortify their offensive and defensive lines, so they can take care of the former with this selection. The front office wanted to upgrade Mitchell Schwartz last year, with plans to move him inside. Here's a potential new starter in Ereck Flowers, who could easily go as high as No. 10 to the Rams.

Shelton. The solution to all the Browns' problems. Except for that pesky quarterback position. How do they solve that, Charley Casserly of NFL.com?

6. Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon

The Browns cannot rely on Johnny Manziel and will trade up here with the New York Jets to grab Mariota.

19. DeVante Parker, WR, Louisville

After trading up for Mariota, the Browns grab a WR to go with their new QB.

Whoa! Great! They went and got their quarterback ... and somehow managed to hold on to the 19th pick ... and one of the draft's top receivers also slid to that 19th pick ... probably not. But wait, Rob Rang of CBS Sports thinks Mariota could be had trade-up-free:

12. Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon

With four quarterbacks already on the roster (Josh McCown, Johnny Manziel, Connor Shaw and Thaddeus Lewis), the Browns appear likely to be focusing elsewhere for the draft. The problem is that none of those quarterbacks exactly inspires confidence. New quarterback coach Kevin O'Connell has worked with Mariota throughout the off-season and orchestrated the reigning Heisman Trophy winner's Pro Day. Cleveland might not aggressively move up to get a quarterback but if Mariota fell into its lap, it might be easier to gamble on yet another passer in the first round (it would be the third time in four years) than to let him fall further and potentially become a star elsewhere.

19. Malcom Brown, DT, Texas

The Browns finished dead last in the NFL in run defense a year ago and have allowed more than 2,000 rushing yards in 14 of the past 16 seasons -- a recipe for disaster in the black and blue AFC North. The 6-4, 320-pound Brown is a stout run defender who add bulk and strength to an otherwise undersized front.

Brown has been linked to the Browns somewhat regularly at 19, too, by the way. It's not just Rang who thinks Mariota could slide. Brian Baldinger of NFL.com does, too:

12. Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon

Eventually, the Browns will get this position correct, although Mariota is anything but a sure thing.

19. T.J. Clemmings, OT, Pittsburgh

Upgrading the offensive line is part of Mike Pettine's plan.

This is mock draft season. Pick the Browns' biggest areas of need -- DL, OL, QB, WR -- and throw a dart at the board. Right, Peter Schrager of Fox Sports?

12. Jaelen Strong, WR, Arizona State

The run on wide receivers continues. Arizona State hasn't had a first-round pick since 2003, when Terrell Suggs went to Baltimore. Strong will end that drought. Cleveland clearly needs help at wideout with Josh Gordon slated to miss the 2015 season since neither Andrew Hawkins nor Brian Hartline is a true No. 1. Strong ran a lightning-fast 4.40 40-yard dash at the combine and came in at 6-3, 215 pounds. There were some questions about his speed, but his 40 time silenced those. The top 12 is not beyond reason for this JUCO transfer who has a lot of upside.

19. La'el Collins, OT, LSU

Collins didn't blow anyone away at the Senior Bowl, but he performed much better at the combine, solidifying a first-round grade. He weighed in at 305 pounds and has a good physical frame. He did it all at LSU, can play tackle or guard and could be a nice addition to an offensive line that is already pretty strong (when healthy). Cleveland has the luxury of two first-round picks and could be in the market for some trading activity. If Collins is still on the board at 19 and the Browns have already snagged Jaelen Strong, that's a good first round.

So many options for the Browns to explore. So many needs. This is draft season.
