Heard on the radio that Cali diners will not serve water unless you ask for it. What makes this funny is back in '77, '78, Dad and I drove to LA and stopped at a diner in Needles Cal. Hung on the walls, were posters saying that if you wanted a glass of water, you had to ask for it. We asked why and the answer was California was having a water shortage. Thats over 40 yrs. ago! Also back in the '70's, when the State was thinking of passing a law for seat belts, someone said what's next? They gonna tell us what we can eat? Sure enough some places like New York and California want to tell you, you can't have a extra large drink or super size fries.
Also back in the '70's, talking around the "water cooler" some were concerned that Health Care would be used as a tool to control People. Sure enough it's coming to pass, with how everything you eat or drink now all of a sudden, it causes cancer. Anyone remember how coffee was supposed to be bad and now it's shown to be good? Me thinks it's all about the money. Anyway anybody else have a old time story that has come back from the "past"? It's funny how things seem to change only to really stay the same.

I want to do it as a Cleveland Brown because that's who I am.”
Eggs are a great example. They are good for you ..... then bad, high in cholesterol, gonna kill you ..... then good ... then bad again ..... and now, I believe, good for you again.
It often seems that the more we know, the less we know.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
I know...What I don't like about all this is over the yrs. (40-50 yrs.) Their trying to make it one-size fits all, and thats not gonna work. It really would be nice if people just minded their own business and quit trying to tell other people how to live. They think there helping but all they manage to do is force their will on others.

This reminds me of the town/city (name escapes me right now) in Cal. that told it's water customers to conserve water........and the customers did. In fact, they conserved so much, at the end of the year the town/city said "hey, we aren't selling enough water to pay our bills, so we're raising your water rate."

I thought Cleveland was one of those cities that used the lower consumption rate to raise rates.
That's right up there with the Power Co. telling you to change light bulbs and do everything you can to cut consumption, and then when we had a mild winter, sent out a letter stating that they were forced to up the rates because not enough energy was used in the winter

Cut, cut, cut........hey, whoa, you cut too much - now you'll have to pay more for your lesser usage.
On a side note, I was informed 2 years ago? Maybe 3 years ago - from Toledo Edison - my electric supplier: Conserve conserve conserve. Got a nice little pamphlet telling us how to conserve, etc.
About a month later, I got a letter from them that said "since you don't use electric heat, we'll have to raise your rates."
So - because I don't have "all electric" heat - they raise my rate? Got it. Conserve, conserve, conserve - just don't cut back on usage or we'll charge you more.
Cut, cut, cut........hey, whoa, you cut too much - now you'll have to pay more for your lesser usage.
My favorite is Washington state, where they pushed people to buy electric cars. Now they want to tax people by mileage, as the government is losing gas taxes on electric cars.

This is a problem nationwide as the overall gas mileage of vehicles has been dramatically improving. Switching to a "Consumption tax" only makes sense. People will get up in arms about the gov't knowing how much they drive though.

The only reason gas mileage has been improving is the government is shoving smaller and smaller cars down our throats, and screaming about global warming. The 3.8 liter engine general motors made or years and used in many larger GM vehicles actually had way more power and got better gas mileage dispite the fact it was in a much larger heavier car. put that same engine in one of the shoe boxes they try to force everybody into now and you would have much better gas mileage but noooooooo the earth might heat up by 50 degrees in the next 50 years if we did that
I'm not arguing that, but frankly there's no reason we can't have both. Powerful engines that are more fuel efficient. If it weren't for regulations, we wouldn't get that. I don't care what the size of the engine is, as long as it makes the power. Although the sound of a V8 is cool, give me a turbo-charged 300 HP AWD car.

You are correct. The cost of roads, bridges, etc doesn't change if you have electric cars or cars that get 40 mpg... so the money to build and repair them is going to have to come from somewhere, since it has traditionally come from a gas tax.
On a related note, I was watching The Fuitive the other night, and I was under the impression that when a child accused an adult of something bad, all eyes were on the adult to prove they were innocent, was something that was fairly recent (last 20-25 yrs.). But this show was made back in '63, so it seems that at least this has remained consistent through out the ages.

As far as water goes, I think it is fine, the majority of people never touch it, so it is a waste, not only of the water, but the resources needed to then clean the glassware afterward.
Most places around here will ask if you would like water as well, when you order a drink. Usually I refuse, unless I expect to be there for a decent amount of time, or am ordering something spicy or hot.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

That's where co-ops come in handy rather than private utility companies.

So, we have to pay more to get these vehicles that use less, and when we use less, we have to pay more for the less?
At least we're saving the world.........oh, wait: China, India.
It's never ending. We are legislated to spend more in order to save, and then we're legislated to spend more BECAUSE we saved.
At least we're saving the world.........oh, wait: China, India.
Our part of the world has been greatly saved already. I'm sure people remember the crying indian commercials, the flaming river in Cleveland, the jokes about walking across Lake Erie, Love Canal, the garbage barges in NY/NJ, the smog in LA, beer can tabs everywhere, Kepone in the James River in VA, and garbage all over the roads when traveling. This country is a lot cleaner than I remember from the 60's and 70s.
And yet I witnessed some moron, toss his McDonald's bag out the window as he pulled away from the drive-thru. Really? You cant use it to store the trash from the contents until you're near a trash can?
