since we have two 1st round picks I expect them to take one of those from us. And of course the patriots will get nothing

Well glad you are staying positive. Come on guys really? One of our first - you do realize there is a precedent on this and it was a fine...no picks. Just a fine.

We didn't cheat with any intent which is what the RULE is about. Slap on our wrist. How can you remotely state - one of our first rounders...smh

I'm guessing a huge fine and Farmer will be suspended for some games. If it's draft picks(s) I am going to be pissed.

I don't suppose it would be asking too much to have him suspended during the draft smile

I suspect it will be a 3rd or 4th. They will want to make an example of him.

Fact is we already suffered the biggest penalty. Losing an excellent OC and a proven system for a rookie OC and the Oakland offense.... Seems like enough punishment to me.

I'd be livid if we lost that high of a draft pick let alone any draft pick.... Did the guy break a rule? Yes... But it's not like he was trying to gain a competitive advantage... I'd expect the Falcons to get a worse penalty than us because they were piping in crowd noise for two years which could affect game play

The local media was speculating a 4th before AS broke twitterverse with that. I am going to guess based on nothing but reading the tea leaves that it will be more than a 4th. This reminds me of when the NFL got proof of tampering on some team (Pats?) a few years back...they nailed them with a lost 1st. I don't think it will be that (although it wouldn't surprise me much), but I imagine they will be a bunch of pissed off people on here in a few days crying about conspiracy against the Browns.

The truth is Farmer acted like a goof and is solely responsible for whatever punishment (just or unjust) for putting us in this situation.

Are you referring to Spygate?

If you believe he acted alone as wasnt told by someone else to text people then yes..

I don't..

Haslam standing firm behind him.. Doesn't surprise me..

So Farmer can't text someone on the sidelines..

But Jerry Jones can walk around and talk to coaches?

I understand why a rule like that is in place..

But this to me is the equivalent of an "Absolutely No Boogie Boarding" sign outside of a bar in NYC..

I agree with you Tab that a precedent was set. I disagree however that they will stick with that precedent.
__________________________________________________________________________

The NFL could might lay heavy penalties to Cleveland for “textgate” and Atlanta for piping in fake crowd noise.

The Cleveland Browns and Atlanta Falcons got into hot water with the NFL during the 2014 season. Browns GM Ray Farmer illegally texted with coaches during games while the Falcons piped fake crowd noise into the Georgia Dome. Now, the league is preparing to hand down “severe” discipline on both teams, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The news comes soon after the annual NFL owners meetings, which concluded Wednesday. Schefter says that the league will announce their decision next week.

In recent years, the NFL has punished teams like the New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints by stripping away draft picks and suspending key coaches and executives. It’s possible that the Browns and Falcons could each endure some measure of each, though it’s unclear at this time. There is also a chance the league could just hand down a significant fine.

Meanwhile, Goodell told reporters earlier Wednesday that there is no timeframe for a report from the Ted Wells-led investigation of “Deflategate.” The league could potentially also punish the Patriots if incriminating information was uncovered. The Patriots previously were docked a first-round pick as the result of the 2007 “Spygate” scandal.

http://instamun.org/browns-falcons-facing-severe-punishment-for-2014-violations-per-report/

I'm not saying it's fair, but the NFL and Goodell have been getting very heavy handed. Just like with the players lately, I don't see precedent playing into this. I don't believe it will be a high draft pick, but I think it will certainly be more than just a fine.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Just a general observation.. I clicked on the twitter link and it's not available according to what came up

So, I don't know what it may have said that would lead anyone to think what to believe what round if any we'll lose a pick in.

WOW, we fans of the Browns are so used to having things go the wrong way for us that we are now just imagining things without reason?

that's just crazy.

SO, since I can't see the twitter post (which makes me wonder why this thread is still alive (alert: twitter hater here)) was there anything in it that actually said there would be a pick taken away?

What was it that make swish say one of our 1st? What was it that made others say a 6th or 7th rounder? What was it that made someone else say a 4th or 5th rounder?

Help me out here folks....

OK, this was quite a bit more informative. So, what is the difference between an owner that goes down on the sidelines and a GM that texts to the sidelines?

I'm sure there is a difference but I really don't see it clearly.

Heavy handed is a kind way of saying that Goodell want's to be king of footballland.

Any draft pick higher than one of our 4th rounders would be insanely ludicrous.

I've been reading about how the NFL wants to come down super hard on any team that "compromises the integrity of the game" or some such. I would not be surprised if they take away a bunch of picks. Everyone knows that suspending GMs and fining the teams means nothing to anyone. A GMs job is not typically critical at the beginning of a season. Anyway, we might be up for a shocker.

Rules are rules, I understand that. Teams have to follow them. But in the same breath I would caution the nfl about stifling rules interpretation. The nfl needs look no further than nascar. Track after track is tearing out seating. Daytona is ripping out 41,000 seats. MIS has torn seating out. Why? Can't sell the tickets.

NFL - they're having trouble selling tickets for the most part. Is it due to over regulation? Is it due to all the t.v. timeouts? Is it due to lack of action on the field? Is it due to the $10 beers? Is it due to concessions costing an arm and a leg? Is it due to ticket prices going up? Who knows. Nascar was once HUGE.........it's becoming a side bar. Ticket prices, concession prices, lack of action on the track, over regulation.

The nfl might want to take a step back and hash things over. ????

I agree arch. I used to be a huge NASCAR fan, followed Mark Martin when he was with Roush. I haven't watched a race in probably 7 years - back in the mid to late 90s I never missed one. Went to MIS every year and caught a race or two at other venues like I do with the Browns.

Heck, you can BYOB to NASCAR and they still screwed it up. If we lose more than a 4th, which I will still be ticked at, I will be livid.

Per SBNation, Browns face "severe" penalties for textgate.

Haslem should also be on the sideline barking commands (no pun intended, unless you think it's a cool pun) like Jerry Jones.

http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2015/3/25/8292425/browns-falcons-punishment-nfl-textgate-crowd-noise

Anyway, why would a coach even listen to texts during a game.

I don't even like owning a cell phone ...

I just see too many similarities between nascar's heydays.....and what it has become, in relation to what the nfl was and is starting to become.

Money.

We used to go to the Bristol nascar race - every year for ...12 years or so? Had to get our tickets from a friend of my wife that had season tickets. Camped just a mile away from the track. About 1000 trailers/motor homes filled the guy's grounds. Same with every "campground" around the track.

Now? The place we used to say is lucky if 300 trailers/motor homes show up.

My prediction for the NFL is it won't be too long before it's not broadcast on national t.v. - it will have to be on a paid for cable channel.

The Browns have already reduced seating.

Sometimes when you get too big for your britches (nascar, nfl) you don't realize you're turning customers (fans) off.

Good question. Nothing. But everything. Rules are rules. And more rules are more rules.

And soon, you've watered down the race - or the game, and at the same time you've upped the price of attendance to what is a lesser product.

Do the math - NASCAR used to be huge. It has fallen.

The NFL IS huge......but it's struggline. Yes, gross revenues are going up.......but give it a few years.

Nascar - if not for the tv money, wouldn't be jack. Teams struggle to get sponsors - whereas 10 years ago or so, teams could pick and choose their sponsor.

You do the math.

I think cfrs was asking you to expound on what sort of strict rules things NASCAR has done to reduce interest in their operations, but i may be wrong. I don't know anything about nascar.

Yes, I am not sure how this particular incident will reduce interest in the NFL.

He was TRYING to gain a competative advantage. He was telling our offensive coordinator what plays to call. Of course that wouldn't actually BE an advantage because Farmer isn't qualified to BE an offense coach. But he THOUGHT he was qualified and that HIS plays would result in an advantage. What an ego the man has.... I thought Banner had an ego.

I figure given Goodell's history we will get hit fairly hard. He is going to want to make an example of Farmer so the next guy doesn't try something even worse.

A guy in the owners booth could possibly call or text down and give information that leads to an advantage. Things not readily available to a coaching staff on the sideline. Or an owner on the sidelines for that matter. That's WHY there's a rule. It gives a coach an extra set of eyes. Of course in this case it detracted from the team and cost us a damned fine OC. But the rule is there to keep every team equal as far as eyes in the booth. Information going to the staff etc.
If there was no rule, Belicheat would have 10 seasoned sets of eyes all over the stadium texting his "text slappie" on the sidelines with as much information as he could get. They'd have binoculars and telescopes trying to read defensive signals and offensive play calls. BET on it. And then so would everyone else....

MKC is reporting "one of the 4th rnd picks" as her "guess". Take it for what you will.

I'd have to agree with EO that we are talking about a fine. Mayhaps a hefty fine, but I can't see them pulling draft picks....especially high ones.

Browns and Falcons officials were informed at this week’s owners meetings of the discipline that is expected to be announced next week, per league sources. One source said the discipline is expected to be “severe.”

That Sucks! That was according to Adam Schefter.
Hopefully Severe means Suspension and Money...

Anyone know what the Falcons did?
Also no mention of discipline measures for the PATS on the deflate gate thing. ??? They get a free ride?

If they take a first away...got a big time apology to Slick! Now got two reasons to hope no way!

My guess is we're docked a 3rd round pick, or maybe Farmer just gets suspended during the season or something. Hard to imagine the NFL docking a struggling franchise like ours a 1st or 2nd round pick.

Eo, the Falcons were found to be pumping in fake crowd noise during the game over the PA system.

And, of course the golden boy and Belicheat won't get anything for deflategate. They're world champions....

Awesome pic, not awesome news though.

You know the NFL is going to smash the Browns, slap the Falcons hand a bit, and let the Pats walk with nothing.

And when I say smash, I'll guess our 2nd round pick, $1m, and Farmer is suspended until week 6 (meaning, he can't be part of the draft).
