Please say a prayer for this guy's family. At about 6am this morning my neighbor, Rick, shot and killed himself. He was depressed and apparantly, had gone off his meds. He called one of our other neighbors to come over right before he did it so the neighbor would find his body and not his wife who was in another part of the house.

He was a very nice man and this is just a very sad situation. My normally quiet street was filled with cop cars and ambulances this morning.

Thanks for the prayers.
Lisa

My heart and prayers go out to them and you. It sounds like you knew him (I'm guessing) reasonably well.

Sometimes people can be seriously hurting and yet so good at masking the fact they need help in a bad way. My best friend and his wife seemed like the happiest couple around, ultimately their relationship was the pits but they covered well. Not as tragic as suicide but used it just to drive the point home.
We seriously all need friends who we can count on to keep us accountable and unafraid to inquire further if we seem to be in a funk. Men I believe have a hard time finding an intimate (in the good way) male friend. But if you happen to have a friend who is unafraid to risk the friendship by telling you what you need to be told...you are a lucky person.

Wow... sorry to hear that. It's always extra shocking when stuff like that hits so close to home.

What a jerk to do that with his wife home at the same time. It's too bad...now his family and friends need to suffer. Sorry to hear Lisa

i had somebody i knew do this right before our last deployment, you never really realize the impact until weeks after it happens. i dont wanna sound like an arse or anything because im not speaking solely on your neighbor's case; but it really truely imho the most selfish thing anybody can do.

to put that much hurt, sorrow and burden on your loved ones to get out of your own...

my condolences to his family

Sorry to hear the news.

It has to be unbelievable torment that causes a person to take their own life.

That is sad...what is even sadder is that a physical disability is accepted in these days.....And mental disabilities along with depression ..are often taken with resent...It must be taken seriously ...for those who suffer from it ...don`t always understand what happens to the loved ones left behind.....I don`t like it when people degrade a suicide...The mind works in ways we don`t understand.........

Well, I will pile on... I live in a very small rural community of about 1,200.

On Wednesday, after school let out. One of the kids was driving home - went off road - flipped the car several times - was ejected head first through the windshield and skidded some 50 feet through a field. He died at the scene.

Several other students were in cars on the same road right behind him. They saw it all. This is also a road used by many of the school busses. Many children k-12 saw the scene and body. The first hand accounts I have heard are beyond disturbing and chilling.

I had no idea you were so close. I thought you lived up near Cleveland.

Kids at the scene at the time of the accident said he was doing close to 100mph when he went into the ditch. He was not wearing a seat belt. The accident happened may 3 to 4 miles from my house. I travel that road pretty regularly.

As a parent, I cannot even imagine the grief that his parents feel right now. My world revolves around my children - as evidenced by my sig. THe thought of losing a healthy child at that age is just unfathomible to me.

I know how these people feel. I have friends as well as myself who fight these kind of demons all to often. It is easy for some who suffer from deppresion to lose all perspective. No matter how illogical it is to believe that your family will be better off with you gone those feelings remain.

It is a shame that he didn't have someone he was able to confide in. I wish his family the best and hope they realize that they did nothing wrong. Many times the survivors are left to wonder what they did wrong or what they could have done to prevent it. The fact is there is nothing in most cases that they could do to stop it. So many people who suffer from depression are very good at hiding it.

I agree... I think in a lot of cases... suicide is like a dangling dagger of sorts. You never really can be sure if and when it will finally drop.

Agree,...it really has to be desparate when you give up the last thing you ever have to hold onto -- yourself.
