Again, they can keep you for a few days. After that, it's up to the hospital or the doctor to get a court order to keep the person there. And more than likely, a person isn't going to withdraw for more than a few days.
Unless you are suggesting that Johnny is still going through withdrawl, I'm not sure what point you are making? They cannot keep Johnny against his will in the rehab facility.
you had a good run Hank.

Uh, if you can't see how that is entirely different from a person that has been in rehab for over a month, then I'd say you didn't pay very good attention to that person detoxing.
There is no comparison. A person in a hardcore detox IS out of their minds and a danger to themselves. By the time someone hits week 5 of rehab, they're more than free to walk any time they want. Nobody is going to stop them if they don't want help... there's plenty more that DO want help that the people (who are usually volunteers) working there can give their time to.

Yes he checked himself in and he can check himself out. I know I'm taking the time to comment but I'm at the point where I really don't care what this kid does. He's nothing more than a point and click walking headline. His game is weak, please get him out of here ASAP.

Take a late round pick for him, if possible, and move on and never look back.

jc...
For the record, Manziel checked in to rehab on Jan 28, so it has been 2 months and 3 days that JMs been in the program.
I'm a little surprised that it took approx 2 months before JM's girl friend issue (her drinking) was addressed and now appears to be resolved.
The subject of whom JM surrounds himself with, should have been one of the first issues "the program" addressed, I would think.
I read something about JM's GF posting a picture (last week), somewhere on the net, of herself in a bikini, enjoying spring break...ouch !!!
Face it, JM's friends would have to change their ways too..if they want to help JM succeed. I'm guessing that JM realized his GF was not willing to make such a commitment..to change her lifestyle to help J.
That picture was quickly removed, but the message it sent to JM and those at the rehab facility who are trying to JM turn his life and his football career around...may have had something to do with the "sudden" break up.
I'm just guessing, but rehab programs likely have stats on how successful their programs are, if the patient continues to surround him/herself with friends who are not willing to make any changes in their behavior.
While JMs GF may have "said" the right things...that she was willing to change her conduct to support her boyfriend...her actions (posting that picture) may have sent a very different message to those attempting to help JM.
I'm sure that many are wondering if JM is truly committed to change...or simply going through the motions?

Addressing the fact that his girlfriend drinks, parties, and is not a good influence on him is one thing ..... being able to just break up with her is another. Maybe he had real feelings for her. Not everyone is so cold that they can break up with someone, even someone who is bad for them, easily.
I think that he is growing, and this was probably a very difficult step. (maybe even harder than just giving up the drinking and whatever else, because he doesn't have a personal relationship with a drink)

"that's not how it works."
You guys are too much.
I've seen a delusional alcoholic bound by their wrists and ankles to a hospital bed. They were going through very nasty withdrawal (Delirium Tremens).
They weren't going anywhere. There was no AMA (against medical advice). They had no clue where they were. They couldn't be released.
They did not commit a felony.
They were not under a court order.
They were a friend of mine with a very serious drinking problem.
It has become hilarious because we are arguing the very extreme and there is exactly ZERO indication that Manziel ever got anywhere close to that. He was a functioning human being who showed up for work, was cognizant and aware, practiced hard, was friendly with his teammates, did interviews. By all indications, he just made poor choices during his free time.. that's it.

An April 13th release would give him a week to covertly proposition to the "friends with benefits" level before having his sit-down with JH/Father. Ready or not, now that the 4-1-15 idea is gone, Johnny is left with little choice.

I'm sure that many are wondering if JM is truly committed to change...or simply going through the motions? I think Josh Gordon went throught the motions when he checked in to some rehab program. I'd say after more then 2 months, it is probably a little more then going through the motions. Will, he be able to change? I agree with you, we will have to wonder and wait.

Joe Thomas: Johnny Manziel lost trust of locker room last year Posted by Darin Gantt on April 6, 2015, 7:09 AM EDT Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel might be nearing the end of his rehab, but he still has a way to go before he can legitimately walk back onto the field for his team. Last year’s first-round pick still has a long climb back to football relevance, after making such a mess of his hand-delivered starting assignment last year. And it’s the way he handled that assignment that makes his teammates wonder. “I think he’s going to have to prove to the team that football is important and being the man, being the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, is important, it is his goal, his single goal in his life,” left tackle Thomas told Tony Grossi of ESPNCleveland.com. “You know, I think he lost probably a lot of trust among the guys on the team last year by the way he handled himself once he became the starter. And I think he had a lot of time to reflect, I’m guessing, after the season was over by the comments he made in the media and by his actions, checking himself into rehab, . . . I think those were really positive steps. “I’m hoping when we comes back in April we see a new Johnny and everybody’s blown away with his commitment. And I think he’s got the talent, so it’s just a matter of if he commits himself to it, we can have a really good quarterback on our hands.” Of course, the Browns have covered themselves for the possibility that he won’t by signing Josh McCown, and the fact they’ve been linked with Sam Bradford and Marcus Mariota makes it clear they’re not finished at the position. “Obviously there’s some uncertainty with Johnny right now and that’s why we brought in Josh,” Thomas said. “He’s a guy that if he’s asked to carry the flag this year, he’s going to do a great job. There’s a chance we draft somebody or there’s a chance Johnny comes back and he’s a new person and he’s rededicated to football, and he turns into the great quarterback that we expected when we drafted him in the first round.” And doing that might prove to be a bigger hurdle than anything he’s doing off the field. Web In typical JT fashion, he has all of the right things to say. Laying out the truth, while not completely flattening the kid. Joe seems to think that Manziel can be good if he gets his head out of his..........

Joe saying it like it is, but in a logical and professional manner.
Reality of it is he lost trust in, and out, of that locker room. Bulk load of the city seems not to blink his way anymore. What makes me wonder is Joe says: "...by the way he handled himself once he became the starter."
Did Manziel's cocky/arrogant side shine too much or something?

Joe seems to think that Manziel can be good if he gets his head out of his.......... I respect what JT is saying and yeah he's right. But there isn't one player on the offensive roster that can put themselves on a higher pedestal performance wise than any others including JT. The oline played 16 games and JM had what? A few qtr's to prove he has it! All while the rest of the Brown's starting offense had already proved they didn't have much to begin with.

The OLine was the strength of our team until Mack got hurt. We can't allow one injury to send us into a downward spiral like that.
