Just thought I would challenge my learned dawgs to pick their brains. Use their best film and sites to come up with the WHO we should pick and WHERE in the draft.

Kicker!!

Our real number one need is to hit on first round picks, we need to balance ability with character...our best pick, Thomas, among our worsts are Green and Manziel....both had red flags and we took them. As Houston found out there are no sure things, Clowney and his knee.....my pick is Shelton, we gives us size, strength, character, and heritage of playing hard....plenty of film on him....GO Browns!!!!

BINGO!!!

Starting in 2012, 4 of our 5 picks we're not actually selected by our "General Manager".

Sorry EO, I just hijacked your thread as I assume this will generate follow up questions.

i'm cool with a 5th rounder being used on a kicker.

Assuming we don't move up for Mariota, I'd like Shelton at 12 then maybe try to move up a few spots to get Shane Ray. We need to finish the D, stop the run and find another pass rusher.

I've been playing with that draft generator. Most of the rating sites have Justin Mouton as the top kicker this year, and he seems to be going somewhere in the 6-7 round. The only other kicker I've seen getting drafted is Kyle Loomis, a punter.

I have a thing for Sam Ficken out of Penn State. Mouton is a Louisiana boy, played for LSU, which means he has probably never played in cold weather. Ficken is an Indiana boy and played for Penn State. He's been kicking in the cold all his life. In his junior year, he kicked a 50+ yard FG in the rain. Mouton had a better overall percentage, but Ficken had the best percentage in the CFB from 40+. I would be happy with either...but I got a thing for Ficken.

According to our FO and coaches you can never have enough CBs, I'm really impressed with F Jones, Conn DB....he's big, he likes press coverage, he's fast enough, world class specimen...and UConn isn't for dummies, he fits all the squares....Go Browns!!!!

QB.

The problem is the top 2 will probably be gone, and the gap between others is too much not to take another player.

There will be no playoffs. Can’t play with who we have out there and compounding it with garbage playcalling and worse execution. We don’t have good skill players on offense period. Browns 20 - Bears 17.

I might have spent a pick on Aguayo at Kicker, but he didn't come out and none of the others seem worth one.

We need a big receiver, but the value's probably not there where we pick in the first round. I like Waller from G.Tech. in the 4th/5th, but I need to find some more tape. It seems I've found his one good game (Miss St).

We could use a stouter nose for our base D, but we aren't actually in base enough to warrant Shelton as high as he'll probably go. Terry Williams ECU is a name I've heard thrown around here.

I'd like an early down thumper at ILB, maybe Jeff Luc late with the bonus of some fullback potential. I've heard the Vonta Leach comparison for him.

We could use a legit fullback, but as much as Jalston Fowler is being hyped he'll probably go way too early.

We need a sack master and could use an upgrade at RT. That seems to be where the value would be for us in the first round. I like Bud Dupree and Ereck Flowers/La'el Collins. Maybe one of the tackles and Malcom Brown, who I think is more versatile than Shelton for our sub packages, and Odighizuwa in the second.

If Heuerman could stay healthy I think he could be a steal at TE.

Thank you Grimm..that is all I was asking in this draft forum is an IMPORTANT discussion on what you all consider a decent investment in the draft or possibly 2-3 UDFA to persue and fight it out.

More and more I see teams who do invest actually are getting good kickers. I asked seriously...unless you all think our current kicking situation is legit.

Someone explain why the mock draft generator is listing team needs as, De, Dt, olb, and again, olb.

Looks to me like the Front 7 is stacked.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

eotab, you and I'd agree points are precious, but with NFL thinking about doing away with or forcing 2 pt conversions.....no need to invest much in kicker. Letting Dawson walk was smart in my book.....can't understand why we can't upgrade kicker without using draft choice.....Go Browns!!!

Kicker is next year. We'll have all of those comp picks to round-out special teams, on cheap contracts, too.

We need: a QB or the ammo to get the QB next year. Pay-it-forward with that extra 1st rounder. Trade #19 for a 2016 1st and a mid-rounder this year.

Targets: Buffalo, Jets, Oakland. They all think they are up-and-coming, but I could see any of them tanking.

No way Buffalo trades up into the first this year with only 6 picks in this year's draft and only two in the top 150. they are hurting too much from last tear's trade. they want a QB and have seen by now the answer won't be there at 19, so will need to hold onto that first.

The Jets are a possible candidate if Mariota is there for them at 6 and they really like a pass rusher who is there at 19 like Gregory, Ray, or Dupree.

Oakland also seems possible if they go DL at 4 instead of WR and they want to move up to 12 fir one of the top 4 WRs or really like one of the second tier guys over the others.

I think it will be tough for the Browns to find a trading partner for a deal like that.

Going the other way, if we want to trade up for Mariota I think Oakland is the ideal candidate.

In 2013 OAK traded #3 to Miami for #12 and a 2nd rounder. Same GM. I don't this trade would be as cheap, but they have Carr and as you mention, they can still get a WR at #12.

I liked Clevesteve's idea of trading one of our #1's (hopefully, #19) to Oakland for Derek Carr, and letting them take Mariotta. I do think the Titans will take him at #2, though.

I know it's not a true measure, but using the generator, I got no takers (tried every club) for a #19 for next year 1st rounder. I had no trouble trading the #12 to Oakland for their 1st next year and their 5th this year.

Again, recognizing this scenario borders on fantasy, my ideal sequence of future events is;

1) We pay the extra 1st forward to next year while Manziel proves to be a competent if unspectacular NFL QB.

2) Chardale Jones wins the Ohio State job after Miller switches positions. Jones proves to be more than a 3 game wonder and then opts to enter the draft after his Junior(rs) season.

3) The Browns parlay their 2 1st rounders in the 2016 draft and land Jones who can then sit behind Manziel for a year while he learns the NFL game, then goes on to be the QB we have been waiting for.

Far-fetched, absolutely...but possible. A boy can dream, can't he?

I thought our GM had a decent draft overall and throw in what brought in through FA and jumps to a good off-season, now if either JM OR Gibert prove to be good then that draft becomes very good, and if both make it, well, I would say Farmer gets a mark of excellence .

Refs...I don't think I can do it myself.

But you can Delete this piece of crap thread. I didn't mean for it to be a free post. I was being serious its something we should consider and didn't for many years as we had Dawson here. Of course I hope we find our QB and become playoff contenders...then what. See us lose a playoff game as our kicker misses a pedestrian 42 yard FG. I've seen too many good playoff teams have their season end with bad kicking.

Why not invest in a top echilon kid that can be with us for 10 years!

But nah its not valid to some in here...of course they will be the first to Beech when we lose games due to the kicker...I believe we lost a couple last year. You know the we Suck cause we were 7-9 and the regime sucks...could have very easily been 9-7 with a legit kicker.

jmho - So please get rid of this thread, no use to clutter the draft forum.

Cundiff cost us 2 wins last year. He had one blocked vs Baltimore from 36 yds, and flat missed a 32 yarder. We lost 23-21. He also missed a 40 yarder - indoors - at Indy. We lost 25-24. Should've been 9-7, although I guess you could argue we might easily have lost a couple of those close games we won. Off the subject (kickers), but another play that haunts from last year was Taylor Gabriel catching a long pass from Hoyer in stride, with nothing but green in front of him, and falling down. That was in the 23-21 loss vs Baltimore.

As far as I have been able to see, when looking over the Kicker ratings for the upcoming draft.. there is no one who truly stands out. Justin Manton of Louisiana Monroe is the number 1 prospect as a Kicker/punter who was 20-of-24 on field goal attempts, including 2-for-2 at 50+ and 3-of-5 in the 40-yard range. As a punter he averaged 42 yards per kick with a long of 46.

He has been projected as high as a 5th round pick.

#1 need? A straight shooting owner - not a used car salesman.

The idiot we have now is a Daniel Snyder/Jerry Jones wanna be. SMH

The Browns finally have a leader in the building. It won't be long before Jim Schwartz is in charge. Thankfully.
