We had to put down my family's dog last night after 13 wonderful years on this planet. He was my parents', but I lived with him for about 7 years and he was very much like a furry little brother who couldn't talk. He'd get extremely excited every time I visited and I always made sure to dedicate time to only him when I was there. He was a Yorkie and the best little companion anybody could ask for. He literally never did one bad thing in his life. He never tried to bite anyone, never tried to scratch anyone, would rarely bark, let my young nieces and nephew harass him without a fuss, and was full of love around everyone who encountered him. He also smiled when he got happy, so adorable. I've never seen another dog do that before.
My mom, 2 brothers, and I were in the room with him and my Dad was on Skype because he's on a business trip in Spain. My mom was holding him the entire time as the doctor injected him. It was extremely difficult to watch, but peaceful. He looked a little confused, but also happy because everyone was around him. If you've never gone through this before and care deeply about your animals, know that it will probably be harder than you expect to let them go when the time is right. We had no idea it was going to happen until we took him to the vet hospital last night. Yesterday he was with us, and today he isn't. I feel like my heart has been punched a thousand times and I have to keep fighting back random tears while at my desk at work.
That's it, I just wanted to share because he was such a good little guy and meant so much to me and my life.

Sorry to hear. I can relate, as can most everyone that's had a pet.
Had a cat - awesome cat - had to put down this winter. The last hour of her time here at home, I carried her around the house, room to room, reminiscing with her. The old "remember this, remember how you'd put Sooga to bed, then come downstairs to let me know she was asleep, " etc.
Couldn't bury her this winter because the ground was frozen, so I kept her in my shop freezer and truthfully, on my "to do" list for today is "bury Milo."
We've had numerous pets - cats, dogs. I have felt the same emotions as you have now, as have most pet owners.

It's tough, but as with all family members, 2 and 4 legged, remember the joyous times, and they will continue to bring a smile to your face.

Very painful Lem,,, I'm so darn sorry for your loss. It's amazing how a little thing like that can enter into every facet of our lives. How we make plans and they always take into account how the puppies will deal with our plans.
again, sorry for your loss.

I am very sorry for your loss. How much we miss our dogs when they pass is a testament to how loving they are. I know exactly whet you mean about how hard it is to let them go. One of my dogs was unwilling to eat for a week at the end of his life, and was lethargic and seemed unhappy. I had him on antibiotics, and was trying to feed him with a syringe to keep his strength up, but it became obvious that it was hopeless. I took him to the vet for his final ride in the car, and as we were ready to leave, my other dog came over a licked him on his face for about 30 seconds. I can't even type that without tearing up. Anyway, he perked up when we got to the vet's office, because of all of the smells and such, and the vet said that this was normal, and they get that burst of excited energy, but it would fade quickly .... and it did. I held my dog, my friend, in my arms as the vet gave him bhis injection, and he passed in my arms. with my petting him on his head.I know very well what you are talking about, and you definitely have my sincerest condolences. I have heard some people say that dogs don't have a soul, but any person who says that can never have looked into a dog's eyes as he sees you when you come home from work, or how they look up at you when they want petted, or when you scratch their belly. No one could ever doubt the presence of a dog's soul if they have ever seen how a dog knows when you are upset and hurting, and they come over to try and comfort you. If there is a dog heaven, then I am sure that my (passed) dogs Buddy and Charlie are there to meet your little guy when he gets there. I'm sure that they will take him on a rabbit chase and a race when he gets there.

My family dog got sick when I was 16, I had to go with my dad to put her down because he was to upset to go alone, thanks DAD! I had to put down the dog I had since birth. It was one of the hardest days in my life.
I have now come to have my own animals. I have 3 dogs and 2 cats. Theres not a day that goes by I dont worry about how I will react and the pain I will go through when I have to loose my pets.
I have two dogue de bordoreaux's (the dog from Turner and Hooch), a mixed breed rescue.

Sorry to hear of your loss. To most of us they're not just pets, they're family. I've found that time heals, but I'm sure it doesn't feel like it right now.

Very sorry for your loss, LW. I've been through it five times with my dogs over the years, and now I have a 14 year old girl that's fading pretty quickly. It never gets easier, nor should it I suppose, because they're all special and unique - and loved. But you do what needs doing when the time comes, and eventually feel better knowing that they felt loved and also felt love for you and your family. I hope my five dogs greet your boy and show him the way to the porkchop bush. Hang in there.

Very tough.
I've only had one dog in my life - Willie.
Willie was nearing old age when he disappeared on December 14, 2001 from my yard at age 11 years.
The Vet's best guess was that coyotes got him. No closure.
I've never seen a beloved animal "put-down".
I'm not sure what's worse,

One of the most difficult tasks you'll ever do in life. It rips a person's heart to shreds.
My previous dog Tillie died in my arms, so I know what you went through. Our vet offered me the option of leaving her there, but it just wasn't right for me.
This god had given every ounce of herself to us the entire time she was ours; there was no way I could let her go without feeling the sensation of being loved right up to the end. She left this world being hugged... the one thing she loved more than anything else.
You have my deepest sympathies, Lemmy.

So sorry for your families' loss Lemmy. Those of us who have had and loved pets are very blessed in life. A pet brings us joy and contentment. When they depart for the Rainbow Bridge, the memories sustain us. Find peace in understanding your pet is now free of illness and hurt.
We adopted a rescue dog many years ago. She had been abused and badly beaten but her tender soul allowed her to once again trust and love. The day we brought her home, I promised her I would never let her hurt again. When the time came to fufill that promise, I was at peace.
Thoughts and prayers our dawg brother!
