Most of your post was about how many games one guy started as opposed to the other.

actually, that was an afterthought - my original query was about how well other HOFers performed in "big" games at the collegiate level. now, now, let's not take me out of context.

Dude, I can only remember one post at a time.

Mensa's stats are misleading and undermind any reasonable debate about Quinn. There are so many people on here who know very little about Quinn other than what the heard on Sportscenter.A little honest debate would be nice.

I haven't seen enough of him to call him the second coming or overrated. There are reasons why teams like Miami and Jags management took a pass on him. Exploring them isn't a bad idea. I don't think because they are stupid is much of a reply.

Not saying that this is your position. Just a comment of the overall attitude.

I don't know that all he cares about stats at all. He is just trying to twist them until he thinks he wins the the debate. I think winning the debate and the attention he is getting is all he cares about.

Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are the best of the best, yet you guys think Quinn's already at their level. I can already see it, Browns fans boo and yelling for Quinn's head because he's not as good as Peyton Manning and is only as good as 2 Time Pro-Bowler Vinny Testaverde.

1. Who said this? I think many are trying to SPECULATE that he MAY be in the same league as those two.

2. Those two have played in the NFL, and Brady hasn't. Notice the speculation. Nobody KNOWS how good he's going to be. So to say for sure that he WILL or WILL NOT be as good as those two is just plain stupid.

3. Can we stop this ridiculous debate now?

Well he isn't winning any debate at all..no one is even debating him on the stats he showing ..
Stats aren't going to prove anything about Quinn's production right now..wait till year 3..
But when he gets on the field consistantly, we'll see what he can do.

Just clicking...

We can;t say for sure how good Frye could have been with a line last year. We also can;t say for sure what it would be like if we all had three arms and crapped diamonds.

The fact is that Frye is done in Cleveland. He didn't have a good grasp on the starting job before Quinn was drafted and he sure as hell doesn't have one on it now.

The most Charlie can hope for is a half year of starting. Maybe a full one if suddenly he turns on a Drew Brees type turnaround.

While I agree that it's likely that Quinn will become the starter sometime next year, it's far from a fact that Frye is done in Cleveland, or that Frye's tenure as a starter in Cleveland is done.

If Frye starts next season and plays lights out while Quinn is struggling in practice, do you think they are going to put Quinn in just because he was a first round pick? I sure don't. Stranger things have happened.

And they knew NO QB could be successul without protecting the blindside. The difference here is: you were fighting for BQ to be the NUMBER 3 PICK IN THE DRAFT. Savage saw it the other way.

As happy as Quinn is to be here in Cleveland, you know he is happy Thomas is, too.

Taking Thomas at #3 was the move to make.

Getting Quinn AFTER getting Thomas was a stroke of freakin' genius.

Not that bad. Playing lights out for multiple games in a row is probably doubtful. Then again how will we know until his third year? That's the standard you posted for Quinn.

Did BQ steal your girlfriend or somethin?

My opinion on the whole thing is. Let the players duel it out...the best player WILL prevail.

IMO Quinn has the greater talent and potential, but Frye has more heart. I dont think too many people think that Quinn is better than Brady or Manning. He could become that type of player if he puts the work in though.

At this point noone knows how things will go. Frye could pull a Brees, and I hope he does. Quinn could be an allstar or a bust...noone knows. The draft/UDFA is a crapshoot. Did you know Leigh Bodden was going to be a legitimate corner? No. Noone did.

Lighten up a bit.

I never said it was going to happen, just that it was possible. Especially with a revamped offensive line, new system, and coming into his 2nd year as a full-time starter.

I couldn't let a rant against Peyton Manning go without noting that Tennessee won the national championship...

the year after he left with a team QB'd by Tee Martin. You cannot get a better argument the level of his supporting cast than that. Anyone see ND winning the championship next year?

There are reasons why teams like Miami and Jags management took a pass on him.

Many teams were said to have Trent Edwards and Beck right there - if not above Quinn. Edwards is injury prone so he fell to the 3rd. Beck was Miami's target all along. Top that off with Cameron knowing Ginn for 10 years. The Jags were torn, reading between the lines-essentially. All wanted Reggie Nelson prior to the draft. Quinn then fell and half wanted Quinn, the other half liked Leftwich - it was a "hung jury" so they went with the guy they all loved in Nelson over Quinn.

How many bowl games did he win? I know he lost his senior year.

The Jags coach wanted Quinn... it's going to be an interesting year in Jacksonville...

I think Quinn will be like Vinny Testaverde, a solid pro that makes a couple Pro-Bowls, and not like Peyton Manning a future HOFer so I'm villified on here. Rather amazing.

I'm sorry that I don't think Brady Quinn is the greatest thing to ever come to Cleveland. Sorry, next time I'll believe all the hype from the media and not use my own judgement of watching Quinn play 20 times over the past 2 years.

I even said before the draft that I would want Quinn over Russell, but I didn't think either was as good as the media was trying to make them out to be. Then I get villified on here because I'm not worshiping the ground Quinn walks on.

That would be a million times better than any of the CRAP we've had here before.

Mensa = "new" Corpus... (the long time posters will understand this)

The facts are that none of us know how Quinn will pan out. He will get better or he will probably not start. Frye will probably bet better too.

For every item that we have to point in Quinn's favor we can find a negative one.

But in the mind of Savage, it has been stated that Quinn was considered at #3, and worth this years 2nd round draft choice to move up to pick him as the first round draft choice for next year. This will help Quinn and be a pre-emptive if Frye dose not improve behind the "new and improved OL" with the drafting of Thomas, and signing of Steinbach and McKinney. I understand the decision of Savage completely and it is very appropriate to me. I think most Browns fans are in agreement with this as well.

Quinn will be a media darling for the next 2 or 3 years because 1) he was a sucessfull QB at ND. 2) his fall from a top 10 pick to 22 with Cleveland going back to get him was significant NFL draft news and 3) because he has looks and personality that cannot be denied.

What does point 3 have to do with football? Absolutely nothing, but in today's media conscience (reality TV) world, Quinn's ability to lead the resurection of the Browns is of media interest. Look no further than that photograph of Quinn as a 4 year old with Kosar's Browns jersey.

In the end training camp will determine the starter. The best players will become starters.

I'll tell ya where I see all this silly talk of Quinn and whether or not he was taken too early or too late.........

He was a 1st round QB who went at 22. He wasn't taken early, he wasn't taken late. In another draft where teams in the late teen's didn't allready have QB's, he'd have gone earlier. In other drafts filled to the brim with QB's he may have gone later. Regardless of it all, we got a 1st round QB one year early by giving up that same 1st round pick and a service charge of our 2nd rounder. The semantics of too early or too late when discussing what part of the 1st he should have gone in are meaningless. The only thing that matters is whether or not he becomes a legitimate starter or not. If he does, it's worth it. End of story. If he doesn't, it's not. End of story.

I find it to be the same song and dance as Winslow, who cost us our 2nd rounder. If he has several more 90 catch seasons, he'll have been well worth it. If he doesn't, he won't be. Same thing in regards to Quinn.

***Gordon, I really didn't think you could be this stOOpid, but you exceeded my expectations. Wussy.

Pdawg and hasugopher
let me explaing something that a lot of posters don' twant to acknowledge..
Frye was a low risk solid value pickup in the third round even though Phil had a CB rated higher on his board...he said he usually doesn't do that but they wanted to take a QB and see what he has..

He was never touted as being a franchise QB , but a PROJECT...meaning that he may never amount to more than being a backup when it's all said and done.
While he has some skills he lacks in some of the more IMPORTANT measureables that others possess...
I watched him closely last year..

There are certain things that annoy the crap outta me when I see him play even though he does some things well..

Not being able to read a D is at the top of the list..they HAD to handcuff him from throwing into coverage even after he said he was trying too hard..

Teams were never afraid of him beating them deep with his arm , as he doesn't possess a strong enough arm to throw strikes in the intermediate to longer passes..

Not being accurate on timing routes is the second..throwing behind a man can mean the difference between a first down and a stopped short gain.

And turning his back on the play when he drops back to pass is something I have only seen a few QB's do, and they ususally get hammered because they don't see nor feel the pressure coming..

IMO I doubt if he can overcome the inefficiencies that he has..
Quinn on the other hand is a first round talent who is supposed to possess the qualities a QB needs to succeed..his risk/reward IS MUCHER HIGHER..
