Or Kelly is just keeping his options open and thinks Mariota might fall to him anyways. A year of Bradford while Mariota adjusts to the speed of the NFL and more complex defensive schemes. Tebow is just a camp arm while Bradford takes his rehab slow, and a positive influence as far as energy/attitude during camp.

Condom is an agent he works for Bradford if Bradford tells him to get a deal done it will happen. This is weak guard, really weak.
OK, I'll take the weak label but I'll counter you with naivete if you think that arguably the most powerful agent in the NFL who has his own agenda regarding the Brown's and is responsible for getting Bradford his first contract in the neighborhood of $50 mil has no influence on Bradford you, my friend, are naive. I didn't say Condon's agenda with the Brown's was the primary reason Bradford won't sign here. I am saying it is an element that would be foolish to ignore. Couple it with all of the other reasons and I think it comes up no sale.

Why is it stupid?
A few reasons:
--Giving up the 19th overall pick for a guy who said he would NOT re-sign w/the Browns is stupid.
--Giving up the 19th overall pick for a guy who has been injured more often than not over the last several years is a huge gamble.
--Giving up the 19th overall pick for a guy who was contemplating retirement is perplexing.
--Giving up the 19th overall pick for a guy who has a low numbers in stats like completion percentage and yds per pass attempt is concerning.
--Trusting Farmer to properly evaluate QBs after his moves over the last year or so is either brazen or ignorant.

QB's are a gamble but you have to have watched Bradford play are the numbers a true reflection of his talent? The whole retirement not signing with the Browns thing is way overblown... Farmer isn't stupid Vers he is overbearing and has a hard time sticking to his own job. But stupid no... I pray we do the deal I can't stand the thought of another season of losing, I just want us to have a chance and this chance IMO is well worth taking. Its a hell of a lot better chance of success then the JF deal we made just a year ago. Ya can't be scared if you want to win. Staying pat is always an option but its an option that will most certainly come with losing for me is it better to take a shot to win or just lay down and get beaten again, no friggin thanks to that....

We have a difference of opinion, Bone. That's okay.
I will say that I have watched Bradford play in the pros. I was not impressed. In fact, I thought he checked down way too often and still missed open WRs. Not impressed by his accuracy and anticipation.
I will give you that the retirement thing could be overblown.
Farmer? Thus far, I do think he is stupid in terms of evaluating skill positions in general and QBs in particular. He says stupid crap. He made a huge blunder last year. He then valued McCown over Hoyer. Seems stupid to me.
I get what you are saying about going all out, but man, part of why we are in trouble is because we reached on qbs like BQ, Weeden, and Manziel.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen had some interesting things to say during an appearance on NFL Live on Monday afternoon. According the NFL Insider, the Philadelphia Eagles are trying to work on a contract extension with Sam Bradford. Here's the transcript:
"Very committed. I mean this is a guy that Chip Kelly traded Nick Foles to the Rams, a conditional second rounder next year, and a fourth round pick this year. They got a fifth round pick back from the Rams.
And they’re trying to work on a contract extension with Bradford. It’s a little bit tricky there. Bradford would like a no-trade clause for this year. So it tells you there’s skepticism right there. But he’s not going to sign an extension with any other team. In other words if there’s another team involved, and you’re trying to get Bradford to them so you can eventually get a guy like Marcus Mariota, Sam Bradford, who has one year left on his contract, will not an extension with any team but the Eagles.
And the Eagles want him. And their offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, who was the offensive coordinator in St. Louis when Bradford was the Rookie of the Year. He’s rehabbing, he’s getting ready, he’ll up and ready to go certainly no later than August."
This report is interesting because it directly conflicts with a report from last week by Pro Football Talk that the Eagles and Bradford have NOT talked about an extension yet. It was late last week when Bleacher Report's Jason Cole followed up on PFT's report by saying that Bradford still believes he could be traded.
Meanwhile, there are still rumors that the Eagles could trade Bradford in attempt to land Marcus Mariota. With the 2015 NFL Draft only three days away, it won't be long until we see how things play out.
When it comes to Bradford's contract situation, talk is cheap. The Eagles aren't truly "committed" to Bradford (and vice versa) until pen is put to paper and a long-term contract is officially signed. To be determined if/when that day comes. Link Mort is pretty reliable. At this point the Sam Bradford rumors make no sense.

I will counter w/Bradford said he would not sign an extension w/the Browns. I will counter w/Bradford said he wouldn't negotiate a new contract with any team other than the Eagles.

Technically, he can't negotiate a new contract with any other team. Just saying.

If the Eagles wanted to trade him and the other team stipulates that they would want him to sign a long term deal then the Eagles could give permission for that negotiation to occur.
But more specifically, Bradford stated that he was unwilling to negotiate a deal to help facilitate him being traded again, regardless of the team.
I posted that link somewhere in this 45 page thread if you feel the desire to look back through it.

I don't follow your logic. The Eagles gave up more so Foles is more valuable?

I understand that the Eagles could give him the ability to negotiate, I just think the Eagles want him this year while they groom their QB of the future. They like him better than Foles, but don't think he'll have longevity (Kelly's big on injury analytics). If Mariota doesn't drop to them, and Bradford stays healthy and is productive only at that point will they try to re-sign him. If he's successful why wouldn't he want to resign. I was getting at, I don't think the Eagles will grant him the right to negotiate.
I think Mariota could suffer an Aaron Rodgers/Teddy Bridgewater type fall on Thursday or at least Chip sees it as a possibility.

That's the word on the street, but it's smoke and mirrors season, so we'll see.

Fisher confirmed that the Browns did not offer the No. 12 over pick for Bradford, which corroborates reports they offered their No. 19 overall. But other compensation was also discussed before the Rams ultimately dealt Bradford to Philadelphia for quarterback Nick Foles and an exchange of draft picks http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2015/03/jeff_fisher_confirms_browns_tr.htmlstupid or not we already did offer a first round pick for him.

This was before we realized the Titans were stupid enough to not take Mariota.

I think it's time for me to get off for the night. That west coast time threw me off for way too long.
I will say I think this is going to be one of the least predictable drafts in awhile. Now if it would just get here already.
edit: re:cfrs response to me. Yes, definitely time to sleep.

People are just mixing up what they want and what actually happened. That is not that big of a deal. If anyone is denying that we offered a first round pick for Bradford, then they are just lying to themselves because they want their favorite team to be smarter than it actually is.

cfrs, it's NOT stupid to not want to lose. It's not stupid not to realize short of us making some sort of bold move we are screwed on the QB front this year.
But its also not hard to agree with Vers, that this regime is stupid. I mean anyone that would overpay for McCown while allowing Hoyer to walk is indeed stupid. But if they already had it in their heads that they were going to either get Bradford or make a move up to get MM, then they look a whole lot less stupid to me anyway.
Having said that if they do nothing and we are stuck with what we got we are in for a big time set back and a losing season yet again which I have no stomach for. The FO has left the Browns exposed on the QB front outside of a 5 game stretch 2 years ago McCown has always been a loser, and JF what can you say easily the worst QB performances I have ever ever seen.
I find it impossible to believe that they don't have something up their sleeve otherwise its very possible that they all could be looking for new jobs come next season.
Oh and this is indeed the silly season when smoke is poring out everywhere. I think the Browns have to do something that is clear to me.
