Broncos | Duckworth waived
Mon, 7 May 2007 15:34:38 -0700

The Denver Broncos have announced they have waived OG Tim Duckworth.

Didnt they just draft him? Or was he a UDFA?

He went undrafted.

Must have done a heck of a poor job at their mini camp to get cut so soon.

Do not think 'we gotta get this guy'.

Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital.

I agree. We have more than enough linemen.

I am actually a little surprised that this guy has sunk so low. I thought that he came out of college with some descent upside to him. He was suppose to be a nice prospect at the guard position. I wouldn't mind picking him up for the practice squad and have him grow. The same thing happend to Jeff Saturday out of North Carolina from the Ravens when they dropped him and the Colts picked him up and started for 9 years. I think unless he has off field problems to give him a shot for guard depth.

McKinney and Friedman only have one year contracts. Tucker is will be 32 this year. Sowells is unproven after one year. Stienbach is a stud.

We need to get younger and better at the guard position. Quality long term depth is important. If Duckworth has shown any talent at the college level why not bring him in? We can always cut him. We need a backup plan if we can't bring back McKinney and Friedman next year. Finding quality guards in FA is expensive.

Shoot....maybe I should go to camp.

I'm a little surprised too. I didn't think he'd go undrafted, but there must be something wrong with him. I thought I recalled Savage dropping his name, prior to the draft, when he (Savage) was talking about potential linemen in later rounds? Probably wrong on that, but I thought I heard Phil drop his name.

He was a good college player at Auburn.......but obviously not that good based on his draft position and his being cut after mini-camp.

We have several young players who could pan out.... Stevenson is one I think will be a nice surprise.

I am not saying Duckworth might not have some value to someone.....but right now we probably have 18 lineman on board and only 9-10 will make the roster and maybe 1-2 others will make the PS.

You get too many in camp and it almost makes it impossible to evaluate any of the young guys fairly.

Another Tim Duckworth will come down the road next year.

For this, lets just go with what we have for now.

I am clueless as why Duckworth would sign with Denver, who runs a zone blocking scheme, and relies on smaller quicker lineman.

Duckworth does not fit this profile, he is the classic road grader. Put someone in front of him, and he will move them.

Depending on how the Browns are setting up the OL he would be of interest. He has been a multiyear starter for Auburn, blocking for some good backs. I don't understand why he was undrafted, I was watching Grubbs and thought Duckworth was pretty good as well.

I was curious about him and did a google search for mock drafts. They have him going anywhere from the 2-4 rds. I wonder why he slipped all the way to not being drafted, and then cut 2 days into rookie mini camps? Makes one scratch their head.

Hey 'Peen,

I volunteer to go undrafted, go to camp, get cut early, and go home too. And I will do it for say HALF what they are paying him. I am a cap friendly, I am sure you will trade up with whomever replaces me, and I know it's a business. Call if you need me for other clubs; I am versatile! I can be cut from any number of positions on the line (EITHER side of the ball!) and will consider being cut from special teams. Right now I am training (NFL is all about skills, after all!). I am going to try to be ready next year for being cut as a kicker, punter, placeholder, AND a long-snapper. I know it's ambitious, so pray for my dream. Hopefully I can make it all come true.
Go Browns! Use the Draft, Phil! And may the Elf be with you!

Duckworth is RG only and one thing we have all seen is the RG only prospects fall and fall hard. Teams want their interior backups to be versatile enough to play 2 or 3 positions. If they arent they better be the best at their position or they probaly go undrafted.

If they were the only ones calling..U take it..
Question THEM FOR calling him...

Heh..I don't always follow the general opinion..this guy ISN'T going to cost us ANYTHING..bring all the linmen you can in and let them fight it out..discard the rubbish..

And that sums it up. Denver probably saw he wasn't going to be a starter for them and lacked to skills to do much else.

Teams generally carry 9 linemen.....maybe 10 tops. Some might only carry 8.

Those reserves need to be able to flip flop a bit to allow some flexibility.
