Never must forget those who have sacrificed so much to protect us all.
May God continue to bless the USA.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.

My grandfather was awarded 3 Purple Hearts fighting in the European and Pacific theaters in WWII. My other grandfather volunteered to house soldiers awaiting their orders during WWII, because he medically couldn't serve. My Dad served 20 years in the Navy, and retired a Master Chief. My son is currently in his high school's NJROTC and plans to become a Marine. My wife used to train Army medics in triage. Her triage stories are great. Me? I worked for the Navy for 10 years as a contractor installing and maintaining computer networks I can't really talk about.

My family takes Memorial Day serious. Most of my family is active/retired from various branches of the military.
Remember the fallen and all the heros in uniform. If you see someone wearing a military related hat or jacket, don't be shy to walk up and shake their hand. They will know why.

Very nice post being a veteran myself it is appreciated. I thought this post would have lit up but I guess it must be against the ideals by some of what a hero is.

Or it's Friday, typically a slower post day, on a holiday weekend, a lot of folks are preparing to travel and/or are just too busy to check the boards today.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

While families will be gathering together for cook outs, NASCAR and the Indy 500 are also traditions for the Memorial Day week-end, we all certainly hope that the true meaning of the holiday is not lost in the hoopla.
I have always walked up to anyone I see in uniform, shake their hand and thank them for their service. While many see things that need changed in our nation, we must remember we have the freedom to speak our minds. We have the right to try to change things as we see fit. The United states is a great nation of which I call home. It's to our military that we owe a great deal of gratitude to for helping preserve these right.
I feel it's very important to mention that our service men and women don't start wars. They don't set our national policies. They simply serve.
To all who have served, to all who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our great nation, on this special day of honor, I sincerely and deeply thank you all.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

If you see someone wearing a military related hat or jacket, don't be shy to walk up and shake their hand. They will know why. Personally speaking... save that for Veteran's Day. This weekend's holiday isn't about those of us that are still among us, or even those that served and then lived long lives before passing on. It is Memorial Day. It is purely and completely about those who died in the service of their country. Instead of shaking hands with people because of the clothes they are wearing, go spend time with the people in your life that matter - but save a few moments of thought for those that gave their lives so that you could be doing that in a free America. Just my $0.02

Just my $0.02 I won't make this a long "emo" post, but I myself will shake the hand of any vet regardless if it's Memorial Day, Veterans Day or whatever day. They've earned that respect.

Thanks Vambo.
My father was in the National Guard.
He missed any action though as he was born in 1913 and was active between the two world wars. (1931-35)
My oldest brother was a paratrooper and also did not see action as he was active 1959-1963.
I was in the very last group to receive draft notices.
Got a draft notice and draft card on my 18th birthday (Oct. 1974). By the time I had to report to the draft board (Dec. 1974) Nixon had eliminated the draft.
I wish I still had that draft card. (I did not burn it)

Understood, as will I.... I was just pointing out that this holiday isn't for the veteran.
It's for remembering those that didn't get to live long enough to become veterans. We veterans have our own holiday.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. - Major John McCrae (1872-1915)

Happy Memorial day to my dawgtalker friends. I, too, will thank a vet and express gratitude any time of the year. However, this holiday brings the thoughts of honor to those gone before who protected and served. Also a special time to remember loved ones who now call Heaven home. May God Bless them all!

Just my $0.02 I know what the initial intent of the holiday is, but I find those to be memorialized are much easier to think of and remember if you can hear their stories before they are under a memorial.

My dad told me once while we were hunting that when the Chinese stormed across the Korean border to push the Americans into the sea, he was one of only a few that walked away from his unit. That was the one and only time he spoke of it. The man was haunted by that until the day he passed and he took Memorial day to heart.
God bless those that gave all so we can have the freedoms we take for granted everyday.
The Constitution shall never be construe to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms. – Samuel Adams

You can't fix stupid but you can destroy ignorance. When you destroy ignorance you remove the justifications for evil. If you want to destroy evil then educate our people. Hate is a tool of the stupid to deal with what they can't understand.
