I remember, not that long ago, when most Tribe fans (maybe even me, on occasion, as well) wanted Carrasco gone. Then he went to the bullpen, and turned his career completely around.

We are so lucky to have Kluber, because basically the team told Carrasco to watch how Kluber trains and prepares for his starts, and do what he does. They then did the same with Salazar.

You know what used to drive me crazy? (besides the time of day or breathing or being awake or...)

When I was a kid watching an Indians game on TV and the Tribe would be up-to-bat, down 4 - 0, with two men on base, and they would blare The Cavalry Charge over the loudspeakers at the stadium.

IN CLEVELAND.

The team is the Indians! The Cavalry Charge signaled the Indians imminent demise!

What a bunch of idiots in stadium operations back then. The whole front office in the 70s & 80s.

Still not as bad as continuing to use a racist caricature of a down beaten and forgotten group of people who had this country before our imperialistic tendencies put them in tiny little spits of land.

I refuse to buy or wear merchandise that has red sambo on it.

I'd love to hear your recommended team mascot, RocketOptimist.

Or do you think the team name Indians is racist?

I'm here for two and a half months. I'm going to try and go to a few other games.

-----------
Rocky,

The name, while grossly inaccurate, isn't that bad. I'd be all for a mascot which respectfully pays homage to the Cuyahoga tribe. The current claim to respect which the logo honors is Louis Sockalexis. He was a constant of being derided, insulted, and suffered some awful days as a Native American ball player. A few years later he drank himself to death. Using this racist caricature does nothing but stomps all over his "legacy".

Well I’m proud to be a Cleveland Indians fan. And I’m proud of The Indians track record on racism.

And when I look at Chief Wahoo, I see a smiling, friendly caricature of an Indian.

I have no idea what you see. I assume something very offensive with your “Red Sambo” comment.

I’m proud the Indians gave people like Larry Doby and Louis Sockalexis a chance to play ball.

I have a "Caucasians" shirt... gets a lot of questions here.

i dated a girl who was native american... her stance was against the image because it was a caricature. she felt the chiefs and some other indian teams were more acceptable, because it presented them in a stronger way.

said basically all hell would break loose if there was a team with blacks being depicted in such a way. that because her whole race was slaughtered, theres not anyone to put up a fight.

i guess i can agree with her a bit, though i dont care enough to fight for the cause. out fo respect for her and native americans, i tend to aim for different fan gear than those with the chief on it... whatever...

That about sums up how I feel too. When I was a kid I liked the Chief, but as I grew older, I saw it more as an inappropriate caricature than a long-standing Cleveland icon.

I wouldn't wipe him from existence, because he's part of our history, but I'd bring him back on a few throwback days here are there. I like the block C a lot.

We have a real nice Big 4 starting with the Indians too.
Kluber, Carrasco, Bauer, and Salazar make a formidable rotation. They are also a young group, and hopefully will grow together.

Now we just need to get the hitting going, and we'll be in excellent shape.

Indians option 3B Lonnie Chisenhall and SS Jose Ramirez to Triple-A Columbus and call up 3B Giovanny Urshela and SS Zach Walters.

Chisenhall is so frustrating. It seems like he's one good game away from going on a hot stream, but that good game just won't happen for him.

Plus its not like he's a good fielder. Had 2 more errors yesterday, and it could have been 3. Its really too bad they couldn't have swung a deal for Josh Donaldson this past winter with the A's.

^We already got Moss, they weren't giving us Donaldson too. As for Chisenhall, he's just not producing on either side of the ball, and his slump has gone on nearly a year.

The shame is that Chisenhall has been improving defensively. He only had 3 errors, IIRC, coming into the last game. However, his completely lack of offense is troubling, since that was his ticket to the bigs.

We got quite a bit out of Ramirez, but he has always been a limited prospect. I know that the Indians want to see Lindor hit consistently at AAA. Walters is an interesting kid, who came up with the team last year, and hit 7 HR in 94 AB. He didn't hit for average, but his power was impressive. I really don't know much about what Giovanny Urshela has done in the minors. I really never paid much attention to him .... though, evidently he had been all over the field in the minors.

Hopefully this will give us a spark offensively. I think that Chisenhall really needs to go down and have the pressure off while he rebuilds himself as a hitter.

Actually, we tried to get Donaldson 1st then settled on Moss we couldn't reach an agreement.

With the 17th overall selection in the 1st round of the 2015, the #Indians have selected LHP Brady Aiken. Please welcome @BradyAiken10 !

Brady Aiken was the No. 1 pick by the Astros last year but did not sign. He underwent Tommy John surgery earlier this year.

And now for my monthly screed about pitching to Miguel Cabrera with men on base. Victor Martinez is hurt - he is not protecting Cabrera batting behind him in the order. Yoenis Cespedes is a good hitter, but is no V-Mart; he can be pitched to. But last night, with two outs and two on, the Indians pitched to Miggy, and he launched it - about 460ft.

From Paul Hoynes of the Plain Dealer:

"In seven games against the Indians this season, Cabrera has compiled a .654/.697/1.192 slash line (batting average/on-base percentage/slugging percentage), with four home runs and 13 RBI. He has 17 hits in 26 at-bats. The Indians have walked him six times.

It's a small sample size, sure, but an incredibly dominant one. It screams that Indians pitchers might as well make his on-base percentage an even 1.000 and eliminate his batting average and slugging percentage altogether by tossing four soft ones out of his reach."

The wait is over. Here comes Lindor

Lindor to be called up for finale vs. Tigers

By Jordan Bastian / MLB.com | @MLBastian | 31 minutes ago
DETROIT -- The jersey that will hang inside Francisco's Lindor's locker on Sunday will have a familiar number stitched in the back. When the young shortstop puts on his first Major League uniform, the digits on display will project the lofty expectations.
• Cast your Esurance All-Star ballot for #ASGWorthy players

No. 12
That was the number worn in Cleveland by Hall-of-Fame second baseman Roberto Alomar. Now, that number belongs to the future of the Indians' middle infield. Prior to Sunday's game against the Tigers, the 21-year-old Lindor's steady path to the Major Leagues will come to an end when the Indians officially select his contract from Triple-A Columbus.
Lindor learned the news during a rain delay on Saturday night.
"It was awesome," Lindor told the Columbus Dispatch. "I'm happy and blessed."
The Indians confirmed late Saturday after a 5-4 win over the Tigers that Lindor -- rated by MLB.com as the third-best prospect in baseball -- will join the Tribe for the finale of the current three-game set in Detroit. Cleveland will need to make a subsequent move on the active roster, but the team currently has one spot open on the 40-man roster for the young shortstop.
Lindor is the latest in a line of highly-touted prospects to reach The Show in recent weeks.
Also on Saturday, the Twins promoted outfielder Byron Buxton, MLB.com's No. 1-ranked prospect in baseball. The Astros called up shortstop Carlos Correa (MLB.com's No. 2 prospect) last week, and the Rangers promoted third baseman Joey Gallo (No. 8) earlier this month. The Cubs called up much-hyped prospects Kris Bryant and Addison Russellearlier this season.
Given the advent of social media, the argument could be made that Lindor has been one of the most hyped prospects in Indians history. Many Tribe fans have been clamoring for Lindor's promotion since early this season, but the Indians had remained steadfast in their insistance on finding the most opportune time for both the young shortstop and the ballclub.
With the Indians playing better of late (22-18 since May 1) and Lindor also on a recent tear (.400 average through 11 games in June), Cleveland felt the timing was right. It is also worth noting that the Indians have likely moved past Super Two deadline, meaning Lindor will probably be unable to secure an extra year of arbitration down the road.
Indians general manager Chris Antonetti has insisted that Lindor's contract situation had no impact on the timing of his promotion.
"We want to have a collective feeling," Antonetti said last month, "that the player is prepared, or as prepared as possible, to not only come up here, but to come up here and succeed and contribute to a winning team. I think we've seen it in the past where there's been times where we and other teams may have been expedient in that and maybe brought players before they were ready."
Through 57 games this season, the switch-hitting Lindor hit .279/.346/.398 with two home runs, 11 doubles, five triples, 22 RBIs, eight stolen bases and 26 runs scored for the Clippers. In parts of five seasons in the Minor Leagues, Lindor hit .278 with 19 triples, 21 homers, 73 doubles, 89 stolen bases, 162 RBIs, 185 walks and 253 runs scored in 414 games.
Lindor was Cleveland's top pick (eighth overall) in the first round of the 2011 Draft.
The Indians opened the season with Jose Ramirez as their shortstop, but he was demoted -- along with third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall -- to Triple-A on Monday. Cleveland then promoted third-base prospect Giovanny Urshela and utility man Zach Walters from Triple-A on Tuesday, making veteran Mike Aviles the defacto everyday shortstop.
With Lindor joining Urshela on the left side of the infield, Aviles will likely shift back into a super utility bench role.

I wonder who goes to make room for Lindor? I hope its Swisher to the 60 day DL - guy simply can't run. He looks like he either needs more surgery or more rehab. Being the Indians though, I'd guess they option Zach Walters because hey, $15M a year.

And ... Lindor is not starting vs Detroit today. Nice buzzkill, Tito. Only in Cleveland do we bring up the 3rd best prospect in the minors and sit him.

Oh, and according to the Indians flagship, WTAM, Swisher is going to the DL with knee inflammation.

Ugh. Only in Cleveland is right. Why bring him up if you are not going to play him?!?

Also, I read that they had an open position on the 40 man roster so they didn't need to make room for him. Swisher to DL still leaves an open spot apparently.

He arrived in Cleveland 2 and a half hours before the game.

Give the kid a chance to get settled.

Hanging out watching the Tribe game today and I have to say that Cody Anderson pitched a heck of a game.
And, there was this interesting statistic as well:

Cody Anderson is just the 18th SP since 1914 to throw at least 7.2 scoreless in his MLB debut with 4+ K, less than 2 BB. First since 1998.

Kid pitched a great game today.

Nice end of the game. laugh Indians had only 1 infield single before coming through with a pair of base hits, and a sac fly in the 9th to win it 1-0.

We need a new FO. All of us saw a glaring weakness of a few bats to our offense. Did Antonetti address this? Nope...and the Dolans plus Shap tried to spin it all.

Poor Terry Francona! He's given the offense of a AA team in the MLB.
