Currently a prominent story up here. Man, Canada is alot more dull than the US. http://globalnews.ca/news/2036702/tim-hortons-faces-backlash-after-yanking-enbridge-ads-from-stores/Tim Hortons has yanked ads from Enbridge from its in-store television screens, the company announced on Twitter Thursday. The coffee company’s decision came after a petition, signed by 28,000 people, called on Tim Hortons to pull the ads. “Timmies: Ditch your Enbridge ad campaign or we’ll ditch you,” the petition read. The spots had been airing at 1,500 Tim Hortons locations for three weeks. The petition took issue with Enbridge’s apparent plan to “build a massive tar sands and pipeline project from Alberta through British Columbia.” Do you think Tim Hortons should have pulled the Enbridge ad? NoYesOther: VoteView Results And it seemed to work. The Tim Hortons twitter account began replying to concerned customers Thursday afternoon, saying the ads had been pulled. Tim Hortons did not respond to repeated requests from Global News for a comment on this story. But Tim Hortons’ nod to its customers may have angered others – the hashtag #BoycottTims soon began trending across Canada as word spread of the company’s decision. You can watch one of a series of Enbridge ads that’s been pulled from Tim Hortons stores after online backlash here. Enbridge, based in Calgary, has over 1 million customers across Canada, according to its website. Graham White, a spokesperson for the company, said in an email that Enbridge has “enjoyed working with Tim Horton’s and respect(s) their decision.” Michelle Rempel, an MP for Calgary Centre and Minister of State, wrote on Twitter that Tim Hortons was “sending a message” to Canadians employed in Canada’s energy sector and seemed to agree with the decision to boycott Tim Hortons. Jason Kenney, Danielle Smith and Wildrose leader Brian Jean also joined the discussion lending their support to Canadian energy workers. In a statement on his website, Cold Lake, Alta. federal Liberal candidate Kyle Harrietha called the decision to pull the ads “a slap in the face to the over 11,000 employees of a Canadian owned company and to hundreds of thousands of Canadians whose livelihoods rely upon our ability to safely and efficiently move Canadian resources to market.” “In Alberta alone, approximately 121,000 people are directly employed in the mining and oil and gas extraction sectors,” wrote Harrietha. “As far as I’m concerned, Tim Horton’s is making a political statement at odds with the facts and its history as a company that got its start in the heart of Canada’s steel industry and which, until now, had always focused on serving middle class Canadian families.” Harrietha called on the company to reverse its decision.

I read it. I read it again. I recognize it as English but I will be danged if I can understand most of it. Not a local boy are you? You also misspelled some words like Center. "Michelle Rempel, an MP for Calgary Centre and Minister of State" MP? Minister of State? A military policewoman who is a Protestant Minister in her spare time???

Tim Horton's uses in store advertising on TVs. They ran an ad for a company that wants to drudge up some oil while destroying the natural beauty in the process. The customers, along with the general populace of Canada, hated these ads. Then they were about to boycott, but Tim Hortons listened to their customers.
It'd be amazing if we had citizens like that down here.

Canadians use Queen's English...so "center" is spelled "centre". As well as neighbour, gray, "zed" instead of "zee" in the alphabet etc. Ministers are members of the Cabinet....you folks have "Secretaries" of stuff, we have Minister. MP= Members of Parliament

It'd be amazing if we had citizens like that down here. Rocket, you;re entitled to your opinion but you're a bit off. The company is working to build a pipeline to the coast so Canada has greater access to world markets where we can get a better price for oil than the US. Its not about extraction. The general populace of Canada is not against energy development. In fact, its a minority- just a vocal one. The lobby group that started the campaign to drop the pipeline advertising is a US one....not Canadian.

Canada may indeed be more dull than the US but you've got Rob Ford, he's keeping the interest up.

Moose aren't a problem per say. Deer venture into towns and cities alot more than moose do. That being said, when a moose does end up in town, they can do alot more damage. And they're among the last animals you want to run into if you're in the bush.

You do realize you have just become the Canadian Ambassador to DawgTalkers?
So, Canada's entire population of 28,000 Liberals signed a Petition against a coffee shop for running positive oil pipeline ads and the rest of Canada, who work for the oil company, got mad and are now threatening to boycott the coffee shop?

Nyah...there's a few of us on here 40. We're just the quiet types.
More like 18,000 americans and 10,000 canadians signed a petition and then the province of Alberta got mad.
All over an ad...
It's pretty absurd really.

I was talking with a guy from Texas the other day and he said it took him all day to drive the perimeter of his ranch. I can sympathize; I have a car that keeps breaking down as well...

Canadian protest? I think this William Xavier .. one of Canada's leading civil rights activists, who being so distraught when hockey got rid of the red line and change the rules on two line passes, he actually went as far as handing our flyers at Montreal Canadian games complaining about it. When the RCMP got wind of it they immediately put him on the terror watch list, at which time he changed his name to Bill Xavier and went underground, they have been looking for him ever since. Bill X if you find him there is a $250 reward, (American).

my bad 40 ... mis read... Sure am glad you don't work for the TSA reading Passports! I will add that my second choice of citizenship would be Canadian. I was trapped with my 12 year old daughter in a cabin in Canada during 9/11. The border was closed. Canadians from cabins in a one mile radius came to us offering food, fuel and anything else we needed. The owner of the cabins told me we could stay there as long as needed. Wonderful people those Canadians!
