Well, it beats reporting news and facts. Grossi will peddle his bilge about his impressions and his take for awhile until the season interrupts the negativity. I do not care how we play in May.

In a sidecar comment, I was troubled by the water throwing incident involving Manziel when I saw the news. It wasn't the temper lost after the badgering, that is understandable. I get it. Something else got to me.

He missed his receiver again.

Too soon?

It's never too soon in my world. If I weren't willing to laugh about JFF, I'd be very depressed about him. lol

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Pettine: Browns haven't moved on from Manziel

The Cleveland Browns aren't leaving Johnny Manziel in the dust.

At least not according to coach Mike Pettine, who took exception on Tuesday to a report from ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi, who stated that the Browns are, "by all appearances, moving on" from the second-year passer.

"It doesn't thrill me," Pettine said, per NFL Media's Aditi Kinkhabwala. "I don't pay much attention to what's going on outside of the building, but when it potentially can drive a spike between the staff and the team, I have issues with it. To me, to talk about how a team's potentially moved on from a player, or he's not in plans, that's just irresponsible."

Grossi wrote Friday that Manziel was a "fish out of water" in a conservative Browns attack that plans to prioritize the run while asking veteran Josh McCown to safely manage games.

Grossi watched Manziel practice last week and wrote that the former first-rounder was "unchanged from his rookie year." A source told Grossi that Manziel was "worse" the second day of OTAs.

Pettine on Tuesday dismissed concerns over the offense moving away from Manziel's improvisational gifts, saying that new play-caller John DeFilippo "will tailor a game plan" to match what his quarterback does best.

"I'm the last guy -- the last guy -- that's going to take Johnny Manziel's athleticism away from him," DeFilippo said in May, per The News-Herald. "Johnny's game is just a little unorthodox. He likes to escape the pocket. He does a lot of impromptu stuff. The thing Johnny is doing right now is he is improving his game of being an NFL quarterback. He's making great strides in doing that."

At the time, DeFilippo cited Manziel's top challenge as calling out appropriate pass protections at the line, another reminder that Cleveland is still working to mold the former Texas A&M star into a functional pro.

It's worth noting that DeFilippo was with the Raiders when Oakland rewrote the playbook to make the most of Terrelle Pryor's athleticism, liberally using pistol concepts to unleash the mobile passer for 576 yards rushing in 2013.

Pryor has since struggled to resemble an NFL quarterback. Manziel is under pressure to carve out a better fate, but until he can master basic elements under center, Johnny is little threat to see meaningful playing time.

"We all feel good about where (Manziel) is," Pettine said. "You could see, he shows some frustration out there because he wants it to be perfect, he wants it to be done right, he wants to do it the way that we're coaching him to do it. He's probably been the hardest guy on himself."

Might as well write bad things about the team. Anything positive is called fluff by the fans.

Johnny Manziel getting harassed for rehab by fans

By Conor Orr
Around The NFL Writer

Johnny Manziel's golf course incident was labeled a non-story by Browns head coach Mike Pettine Tuesday and he insisted that the organization is not ready to move on from the quarterback.

But something else was said about the mercurial quarterback that slipped through the cracks a bit.

Here's cornerback Joe Haden, a friend of Manziel's:

"I'm walking around with Johnny and we're leaving a little restaurant, we're walking back to valet going to the car, and then, you just hear, 'How was rehab?'" Haden told The Plain-Dealer on Tuesday. "I'm like, 'Dude, you're just getting at him when we're chilling, leaving the restaurant,' so it's just negativity that people are trying to get a reaction out of him, and it's upsetting."

Essentially, this is a playbook on how not to be a good fan, or person of the world for that matter. In the not-so-distant past, I covered Ravens safety Will Hill and I remembered him telling me why he kept finding himself in a difficult place. Though I have no first-hand experience with Josh Gordon, I can only imagine the difficulties he's faced as well.

The bottom line is that people who enter rehabilitation need help and constant support.

Rehab is difficult enough without people constantly getting in a person's face about it. Manziel, like Hill and Aldon Smith, and anyone else who has tried to go through a program, should be applauded for their efforts. It's not an easy thing to do and, for once, it's not about how their absence impacts your team.

Weakest offensive position groups

Weakest quarterback group: Cleveland Browns

There are plenty of unfinished quarterbacks to choose from, but Cleveland stands out because they have a sub-par "stop gap" option and little hope for the future. Josh McCown is the definition of a journeyman on his seventh roster in 14 NFL seasons. His single promising stretch as a starter came in five starts for Chicago in 2013, but he failed to survive an ugly situation in Tampa last year. The Browns' boffo offensive line should help McCown improve in Cleveland, but he has a shaky group of weapons to throw to. (See below.)

Ignoring the off-field issues, Johnny Manziel looked lost as a football player during his rookie season. Early progress reports this offseason have not been promising. The Browns' stated strategy is to "minimize" the quarterback position, which doesn't sound like a great idea in the year 2015.

Weakest wide receiver group: Kansas City Chiefs

Honorable mention: Cleveland Browns, St. Louis Rams, Seattle Seahawks

The Browns could easily take the spot, but it felt cruel for them to lead two different categories. Their new No. 1 (Dwayne Bowe) was cut by Kansas City. Andrew Hawkins is a good option in the slot and Brian Hartline should help. ...

Weakest tight end group: Arizona Cardinals

Honorable mention: Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns

I will point out what is obvious to me...all the Browns weaknesses are in "skilled" positions area of the offense.

Farmer's ability to judge offensive talent should be examined.

It is not just Farmer's ability to judge offensive talent, but the priority he applies to the skilled positions on the offense.

I've tried to point out that all of Farmer's experience playing football was on the defensive side of the ball and that concerns me. As a GM, Farmer is young and inexperienced...I believe the Browns should add an assistant GM who is very strong and experienced in the areas where Farmer appears to show weakness.

I view this information as just added evidence of an area of weakness within the franchise that needs to be addressed soon.

I would say this is just about spot on. although the guy was just focused on the bad.

The Browns do have one of the best O Lines in the league and they do have a stable of RB's that while none of them say superstar they are a pretty solid group. I think McCown will make it hard on them as a group though.

I think all the hype surrounding Duke Johnson is misplaced and there is a very good reason he was available in the 3rd round. But I have hope for the kid, I will only totally buy in when I see the kid play in an NFL game.

The article or blog is about right though sadly.

I have other concerns when it comes to text.

Last season the 1st round picks were questionable at best, I think that drove Text to be very conservative this year, especially so in the 1st. he made safe picks but did little to truthfully improve the team.

This draft IMO was about preserving where we are which is kind of disturbing because like it or not we are losers. Preserving losing seems well safe. willynilly

The Browns added Bill Kuharic to the staff in February of 2014 to advise Farmer and was named Executive Chief of Staff in May of 2014. I have provided a link to his bio.

Danny Shelton, Nate Orchard and Xavier Cooper all improve our 32nd ranked run defense, and pass rush. (or they should on paper, anyway).

Cameron Irving can play play anywhere on the offensive line and should contend for the starting RG or RT spot.

Duke Johnson can return kicks, contribute in the passing game, and is a big change of pace runner.

All five of these guys were ranked in the top 100 of virtually every major pre-draft big board.

How can you say that's not improving the team, while preserving the losing? Especially having not seen them actually play yet.

I completely understand if their were other players you wanted the team to draft, but to say that the team was conservative and did little to improve just seems premature.

Can you explain to us simpletons with small brains who the Browns SHOULD have drafted?

1st you have to narrow your focus to the 1st round then we can talk about it if you wish.

Both 1st this year were safe picks -vs- impact. I know if you read my reply then you should have been able to figure out I was speaking about the 1st round.

I'm actually glad we took Sheldon but not so much Irving, although they will most certainly find him a home his impact will be minimal as is true of Sheldon. Both safe picks not to be confused with bad picks, with Irving taken as insurance for the time when Mack heads for the exits (preserve). It doesn't exactly add to our need for difference makers, and we need those types of players far more. In case you haven't noticed we have a need for difference makers.

You didn't say only the first round though...

"I think that drove Text to be very conservative this year, especially so in the 1st. he made safe picks but did little to truthfully improve the team."

I'm not disagreeing with the notion that this team definitely could have used an upgrade at TE and or WR early on, but to say little was done to improve the team, and that the picks only conserve the losing is jumping the gun a little bit. We were 32nd against the run, and when Alex Mack went down last year our running game (and pass protection at times) was total crap. We added players to help both areas of concern. An impact receiver or tightend MIGHT make a big play here and there for the team, but you have to win in the trenches EVERY single play. So by adding an offensive lineman, two defensive lineman, a pass rusher, and a running back, I fail to see how we were conservative and didn't do much to improve the team.

I guess we'll wait and see.

No it has nothing much to do with the skilled positions. There are two question marks.

1. Continuity as we have to learn a new offense it takes time to gel we do not have hi ranks simply cause we do not have the STATS that these guys go on. And that is from last years offense. It does not make are skilled positions bad or good. Cause last year we again lacked continuity as it was year one of an offense and learning process.

2. QB a Franchise QB would make all the skill positions better. More sustained drives, more reps, more stats. Usually more Wins. We have been trying for this since 1999 and are not successful. Even if McCown produces beyond our expectations we will not have a Franchise QB yet. That falls under Manziel or somebody in our future!

It has nothing to do with our lack of investing for skilled positions. I'm sure every year we will try to upgrade them but if we fail in offensive production this season I'm sure it will be a combo of Number 1 or Number 2 not cause of some lack of skill position players. You would be shocked how good these guys are if we would be in a system for 3 years and a Franchise QB.

Back to Manziel ...... and just a general comment .....

I am concerned that Manziel seems unable to control himself in these situations. While I understand that it is probably frustrating beyond words to have people say bad things about you, over and over, does anyone think that the rest of the NFL is not seeing what is happening with him? If he gets into the game, does anyone believe that some friendly LB or DL isn't going to say even worse stuff to him to try and get him to blow his stack?

Once someone knows that they can get under your skin, then in competition, they will use it.

Look at the Bengal's game, they were 100% okay sucking up the 15 yard penalty to purposely go outta their way to taunt JF. Blood in the water, and the more stories and etc regarding JF will likely only persuade others to taunt him and get him off balance/aggravated. Gotta be able to control yourself.

There is no question that it's gotta be frustrating for Manziel.. But he brought that on himself so he's going go have to pay the price whatever it is.

He went into rehab either on his own or was forced by (insert name/organization here)so he at least deserves a bit of credit for attempting to get his head right.

the quickest way I can think of for him to silence his critics is for him to come into camp prepared and win the starting QB job and to go on to a successful year.

Some fans will not ever stop trying to get his dander up, but he's going to have to grow up and learn to ignore them.

Players are the same way, if they continue trying to get under his skin, then silencing them is as easy as making them pay on the field. They'll stop quick enough.

The fact they are actually selling Johnny rehab tshirts on amazon is very telling about what this kid is having thrown at him. I know he brought a lot of this stuff on himself but I have to admit almost every fight i have been involved in in my life has been from me wanting to do nothing more than me wanting to relax and enjoy myself and someone wanting to ruin that for no reason.

I usually first retaliate with words because I am good with those and then it would get out of hand from there but I really hate people trying to start trouble for no reason. Doesnt even matter if it is aimed at me or not.

Remember this...competition at QB does not exist in Cleveland this season..the front office is in control of the QB depth chart...they will decide who starts and when certain QBs start.

As of today, Manziel is in total control of the #2 spot...and I seriously doubt it is tied to performance in practice.

If the FO was in control of who started I think it would clearly be Manziel. It's obvious Pettine favors McCown.

You've changed your theory from they will hand Manziel the starter job to the FO has firmly entrenched Manziel in as the #2. LOL.

Don't you have trouble keeping up with all the outrageous claims?

rish...AT THIS TIME...

I believe some are a little shocked at how far Manziel is behind.

At this time he clearly isn't ready...if the QB depth chart was decided like the other 21 positions, based on completion and performance, Manziel would most likely be the 4th QB on the depth chart.

But, the Browns decided no completion atQB this year and THEY GAVE Manziel the #2 spot on the depth chart...DIDNT THEY?

Manziel will be handed the #1 slot on the depth chart the same way he got the #2 slot on the depth chart...when Haslam and Farmer decide that they want Johnnie to start, McCown will do what he was hired to do...GIVE the starting job to Manziel, without a peep.

All Hoyer wanted was a chance to compete for the starting job and stated he had no problem competing with Manziel again...confident that he is a better QB. That was too much to ask of Haslam and Farmer because their #1 priority is not winning games...it is seeing the boy they picked in the 1st round of the 2014 draft playing QB.

Nothing has changed...Haslam and Farmer intentionally gave Johnnie boy the easiest path they could to the starting job.

It's still Johnnie's job when management decides...UNLESS, JF screws up...

Sorry mac, I can't imagine a head coach in the NFL putting up with a non-football man, (the Owner), and an inexperienced GM taking total control of the QB situation deciding who plays and who don't, and when.

It would hog-tie a head coach to give up that much control and still be expected to win. I can't see anyone agreeing to that set-up.

It doesn't make sense on any level.

It doesn't make sense on any level.

dub...remember that TEXTING thing?

What was the subject of discussion?

Last season Pettine believed in competition at EVERY position, and Hoyer took advantage of it. All Hoyer wanted was a chance to COMPETE for starting job...but this year management insisted that there would be no talk of COMPETITION at the QB position.

As soon as Haslam and Farmer believe it's time, Johnnie will start and our life long backup will give up the starting job without a peep. There will be no more texting...when you gonna put Johnnie in.

I don't think its going to matter mac cause will be out of it quick this year. The real question going forward is can or will these guys Text and Pet weather the storm of a losing season?

I have not read anything concerning the subject of the texts. I know that Hoyer said he did not want to sign until he knew more about what was going on in the texts, and that Hoyer still wanted to discuss the job after he was presumably told what the texts were about, but I have yet to see any article discussing the subject of the texts ( other than conjecture ). If you have any articles concerning the subject matter could you please post it? I, for one, would love to see the texts and what the uproar was all about.

Mac how can you honestly believe that? Tin foil hat.

What about pettine strikes you as a guy whos willing to have his team be dictated from non coaching staff?

If the FO/haslam were dictating that manziel sas going to be the starter, why wouldnt they do so now and get manziel actual starter reps, rather than waiting till mid season?

Why would pettine waste the majority of first team reps on a guy he knows wont even remain the starter?

Enough already about Manziel. The endless garbage about him is just too much.

I get the celebrity part that has been attached to him from college but enough is enough.

Manziel was drafted to be the starting quarterback.

He has failed to secure the position. Now in his second year he is not even in the picture as the starter.

How about not talking about Manziel until he actually makes a contribution to the team.

Really getting old all this talk about a guy who is barely second string. It is just like Tebow.

and therein lies the problem... we don't know... so every person can interpret these texts in a way that fits their line of thinking be in good, bad or indifferent.

in lieu of a smoking gun we are left to connect the dots and each person draws their lines their way, to their preferred end result.

josh...do you realize how unprepared Manziel was last season when he did get to start?

You can look it up..there were reports that he had trouble calling plays and formations...end result was a 30-0 butt whoopen. The next week, JM was hurt in the first half and spent the rest of the year on IR.

Then in the off season Manziel was in rehab and not working on his game. Chances are JM is no further along than he was last season. It doesn't look as if Manziel is big on book learning and with a new offense, new coaches, new playbook...it will take Manziel time..maybe more time than some thought to get JM ready to start.

He's still got a lot of time to learn everything, if he applies himself. When he is ready, he will take over for McCown.

the discussion here is the context of the texts not that they existed.

No one denies he did it

No one denies is was idiotic at best for him to do it

(What was your reaction to Ray Farmer's texting?) "I'll be honest, I wasn't thrilled about it. Ray and I have had very clear and open conversations about it. I think as you guys will see tomorrow when you talk to him, he's apologized not just to myself but to other members of the organization. In game is very emotional. I'm not going to go into my initial reaction..........

(Did your trust have to be rebuilt after you found out?) "I would say that it had to rebuild.....

context of the texts were it pissed off the coaching staff and made pettine lose trust in farmer. i think its safe to say farmer was not texting about the flavor of the gateraid right?
