Browns S Tashaun Gipson signs tender agreement Posted 7 minutes ago Andrew Gribble Senior Staff Writer @Andrew_Gribble He returns after making Pro Bowl in 2014 Browns safety Tashaun Gipson signed his tender agreement Friday to officially extend his tenure with the team through 2015. Gipson, an undrafted free agent out of Wyoming three years ago, became the first Browns undrafted defensive player to make the Pro Bowl since Mike Johnson (1991) after racking up six interceptions -- a total that ranked second in the NFL -- 52 tackles, eight passes defensed and a defensive touchdown. http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/arti...36-d2b0f5702fd0 Wished he would have just done it before OTAs, BUT, glad it won't be a mini-camp issue. Stay healthy, roam the field like a raped ape and I'm more than confident Farmer and company will reward you with the contract you've held out for this year!

Clearly logic doesn't resonate with you. As others pointed out - if it was a lowball number, and if Gipson is worth more ... WHY DIDN'T ANYONE MAKE AN OFFER? What is it that you don't get about that? Other than you agenda for hating on Farmer?

There's definitely too much off-season optimism when we're talking about Jordan Poyer making our pro-bowl safety pay for wanting a contract.

I'm not going to pretend to know how much Gipson is worth. I've seen some people say he's a legit all pro FS, while others say he's a product of being a little lucky when he's made plays.
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

J/c Gipson strikes me as a humble dude. I don't think he's too big for his boots he just needs to be paid accordingly (the difference will be what each side of the contract table thinks his worth is.) We got the cap room, I don't see why we don't make this work. The dude wants to be here, he isn't a malcontent from what I've seen on social media (I had a brief interaction with him a few weeks back also ). Pay da man!

If it was a low ball offer someone would have gone after him - if it wasn't a low ball offer then no-one would have made an offer and Gipson would sign the offer and be playing for the Browns next year. . . . there isn't a debate about those scenarios, it's either one thing or another. Gipson signed and you were totally incorrect about your statement. Period. As for your opinion about what coaches say and GM's say/do ... I think you're are completely incorrect again. It's a business. Players know it. But with your agenda of hate towards this FO - I applaud you for sticking to your agenda in the face of incontrivertable facts that dispprove your 'opinion'.

<<sigh>> You always have to make it personal. That actually made me laugh Vers...lol and not at you just the irony of you saying that. I know I have a temper and take it personal especially when its a little insulting (I take it that way).
Pit... I don't really see a "good guy vs bad guy" scenario here.I was not trying to indicate a good guy bad guy situation. What I was suggesting is that the contract thing and the choice of Gipson not to sign the Tender and negotiate a long term contract...his actions really have no negotiation value except to suggest to the Browns he's so pissed he's willing to sit out the season and we would be screwed...I see absolutely no other value to the stance he is taking.
But what is happening is Poyer is starting to stud out...by all accounts that I'm reading he is. Of course I don't read the possible beats against him or miss tackles on runs??? Its not picture perfect. But the praises from onlookers, teammates, and coaches all seem genuine.
My point is the possibility that the absence of Gipson might not hurt us as first thought. Why I'm calling the actions he is taking as a Big Mistake.
As you stated this is all business. I agree all business, well where is the Business advantage for Gipson??? I see this now taking a turn where there is absolutely NO NO advantage Business wise in this. NONE AT ALL. Why I also stated I think he is getting Bad Advice. There is nothing but bad that come come out of this and his actions (keep in mind I want him here 100%) hey if he wishes to move on then he is succeeding in his strategy.
I willing to hear from you your view on how this is a good business move by him? Cause I can't think of one. Ergo "Big Mistake"

Done deal now, thank god there was no apparent anger or things said that jeopardize a possible long term deal. I am very pleased that Poyer is developing and can provide competition and depth. I think our front office played the cards exactly as I would have. A UDFA who has talent, Pro Bowl talent, and seems to be popular on team , both sides now have a lot of time to negotiate. Let's see if that injury has changed him as a player, I hope not BUT this is a bottom line business and I think the FO wants to see for themselves.

Andrew Gribble ‏ @ Andrew_Gribble 25m 25 minutes ago Browns defense goes nuts after Jordan Poyer picks off a pass. Poyer has drawn big praise from coaches for how he's performed with 1's
Gipson worked hard to climb out of the UDFA ranks to become a legitimate starter.
FS has always been a Money position in the Pettine D. Gipson took advantage of it for around a half a season and garnished praise well deserved.
But gone to his head? Bad advice from his agent.
His decision is going to end up biting him in the ass. He lost his "HUNGER" but there are guys waiting for the opportunity to rise in this Defense.
Man I hope we aren't just saying goodbye to you Gipson as you paint yourself into a corner. By the time that paint dries you just might not have a position here. Guess how valuable you will be next year as you hit FA being a nickel n Dime DB...about the description of the contract you'll get.
Bad bad move by Gipson...anyone know who his agent is?
What do you all think. You HAVE got to drop this everything the FO does is spot on Tab. Whatever Gibson gets he has earned through his pay. This is just posturing on both sides part, let it play out before the demonizing starts please. JMHObservation.. But doesn't it seem just a bit strange that the Browns only seem to be able to get players to re-up when they hold the upper hand? I tell you what I think the union has allowed the teams to rape the veteran players. The only guys that even seem to be able to get deals at all are the greats of the game, but the good players are let go. Strange but the new CBA sucks for the players IMO.

Question. Could the Browns have offered a 3rd round tender. Could the Browns have offered a more than 1st round tender.
They offered what they offered.
I don't understand why someone gets to start with they saved 998,000, when nothing has been agreed on yet; or premise that the 1st round number is what should have been.
Why not say they saved 4.5 billion from offering him the Moon and stars.
Boy the team saved 4.5 billion, what a bad guy the collective team is.
They offered what they offered.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

That is EXACTLY the problem - you hit it 100% on the head !!! There is NO-ONE who says the FO is spot on with everything they do. Even Tab who is as big a homer as is on these boards, doesn't blindly go around saying that everything they do is spot on. Like many he has remained optimistic. On the other hand there are posters who hate on everything the FO does. Classic example was the Jordan Cameron debacle. . . when the news was leaked that we'd signed him to a big contract a bunch of haters jumped on the "how could Farmer spend so much on an often injured TE?" .... 24 hours later the same posters were bashing the FO for [1] telling the press that they had signed Jordan [2] not signing him as he was such a talent.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

I'm quite sure we see the stance he took differently. From my understanding he wanted a long term contract. He used the time that is pretty much allotted for doing that to achieve that goal. That goal never came to fruition, so he signed the tender. I don't see how those actions send a message that he's pissed to the FO. Once again, I see this as business as usual. But what is happening is Poyer is starting to stud out...by all accounts that I'm reading he is. Of course I don't read the possible beats against him or miss tackles on runs??? Its not picture perfect. But the praises from onlookers, teammates, and coaches all seem genuine. Oh I do believe the reports are genuine. I also believe we here a lot of great reports every year when guys are tossing the ball around in shorts. I believe we also know that the D is in its second season and has a lot more big investments on the D than on the O. I would also expect most people would feel it's quite reasonable to expect the D to be ahead of the O now, and going into training camp. We have one QB who is in his second year who learned very little in his rookie year which we evidenced by his play on the field at the end of last season and departed rehab not long before the OTA's started. The other is a journeyman QB who I doubt many were surprised to hear he threw picks. I mean it's not like Poyer was picking off Peyton Manning. lol My point is the possibility that the absence of Gipson might not hurt us as first thought. Why I'm calling the actions he is taking as a Big Mistake. As you stated earlier, we don't have the big picture on Poyer in OTA's. We haven't heard about how many times he's gotten beat, out of position on running downs or anything else. I believe if you wish to see it, you can read into it that "Poyer is starting to stud out". I didn't see anything that indicated that. I saw that they liked Poyers efforts, he's doing well and made a good play. As you stated this is all business. I agree all business, well where is the Business advantage for Gipson??? I see this now taking a turn where there is absolutely NO NO advantage Business wise in this. NONE AT ALL. Why I also stated I think he is getting Bad Advice. I willing to hear from you your view on how this is a good business move by him? Cause I can't think of one. I believe I've already stated that. He had a timeline before he needed to sign his tender. After that time the tender could be reduced. He used that timeline to try to negotiate a long term contract. That didn't turn out so he signed the tender. I believe if you want a long term contract, using the time allotted to accomplish that is what anyone would do in a business situation. In the end, the tender was signed and Gipson will be here. I believe the only problem that I see in your scenario is that you didn't allow things to play out before you tried to make such assertions. As it turns out, nothing happened. There was no hold out. As it turns out, Gipson didn't get the contract he was trying for so he signed the tender. I don't see any mistake by anyone here. Just business as usual.

Gipson had nothing to gain and everything to lose with that "holdout". His agent is a dufus.
He was NOT going to get a better offer until that knee gets evaluated...period. Sucks for him, but it is what it is. It would have been stupid for the Browns to handle this thing any differently than they did.
What if his knee is d-o-n-e?
He needed to sign the damn tender and get his butt to OTAs...all he's done is put himself behind and allow the competition to get a leg up. He lost a month of opportunities to show the Browns that they need to extend him. He should can his agent.

First of all there was no "hold out". The tender was still on the table and the time had not run out for him to accept it. That's what I find so funny about all of this.
Secondly, this injury everyone keeps going on about was simply a knee sprain. No ligament damage or surgery required.
I keep hearing both of these topics mentioned but neither hold any validity.

Can someone please post the all the articles about Poyer "studding out?" I did a search and I came up w/one article that was about 5 Lesser Known Guys Turning Heads. This is what was written about Poyer: Jordan Poyer: The former Oregon State Beaver is now in his third year in the league and has taken every rep at first team free safety with Tashaun Gipson out. Poyer is also seeing time as a punt returner, but that battle puts him in competition with another guy on the list that will be discussed later. It figures only to be a matter of time before Gipson comes back to reclaim his role, but Poyer still could be valuable depth in the secondary and a contributor on special teams. Read more at http://cover32.com/browns/2015/06/10/fiv...RHyB5RxJDWWv.99Studding out? Really? Perhaps there are a slew of other articles that were written about Poyer "studding out." I'd love to see them.

However, he had nothing to gain in doing that...nothing. However, his teammates and coaches were putting in the work and installing the defense while he stayed away for no meaningful purpose. His agent gave him some terrible advice.

You seem to overlook that when a player is looking for a long term contract, he uses the time he's given to try to negotiate that. OTA's are voluntary by NFLPA contract. A player doesn't get on the field risking an injury when he is not under contract. The facts of this are pretty basic. That simple knee injury ended his year...seems fair to be concerned with it. If you wish to waste your time being concerned about a simple knee sprain, so be it. But it doesn't make a lot of sense. Is the skip-out a big deal? Probably not and I hope not. However, he had nothing to gain in doing that...nothing. However, his teammates and coaches were putting in the work and installing the defense while he stayed away for no meaningful purpose.
His agent gave him some terrible advice. This is ridiculous.

I agree PIT this was pretty much Business as Usual here... on both sides. I don't see any issues on either side... the browns gave him a decent tender, if teams thought he was a first round talent they would have swooped down on this... as far as I know no one even sniffed... seems to be by deduction then most teams felt he was somewhere around a 2nd round talent and did not want to give up that and pay a "decent" (however one defines it). May be they want to gamble on he being available next year as a FA... of course if he studs out then there is the problems with bidding wars, being tagged etc, , there is also an opportunity a long term deal gets worked out On his side... he did what he needed to do.. to make his case known and to use what leverage he had... I would be more concerned abut his lost time if it was a new defense that was being installed, but for once (in what 30 years?), we actually have the same coaching staff in place, ... so the time he missed is mitigated. He also did not air his feelings through the media, he let it be known he was unhappy and that was abut it... kudos to him for that. This process also helped to maybe set his price a bit so maybe the two sides can get around to serious, legit talks and get him inked, again

Well cfrs.........I know you came around afterwards, but it used to be that most of the board members had an agreement not to ever make things up and pass them off as fact.
We even discussed it. You get one guy who says something that is completely false but presents it as a factual statement. You get about 10 anonymous readers and many other regular posters who read it and they then go into work and talk about it. The people who heard it at the water cooler, the gym, or the bar than go on to repeat the untruth to others. They then tell more people. It gets out of hand and falsehoods become reality because as you well know, perception dictates reality in the minds of society.
I think opinions are grand. Love opposing opinions. Talk, talk, talk all you want. But opinions should not be passed off as factual information.
And while I might be wrong, I really could not find a bunch of information that Poyer was "studding out" or that conversations between Pet and JM and Pet and Gilbert went down "word for word" as was described.
State opinions. That's great. That is a message board. However, it's wrong to try to deceive people w/falsehoods just to further your own particular agenda. And yes, we all have agendas. Any intelligent person has an agenda. But let's keep it real and not resort to trying to deceive others.
Thank you for your time.

Who is claiming that Poyer is 'studding out'? Read the thread. There is a disturbing amount of false information being bandied as fact on this board. Read the thread? Seriously? How about 'answer the question'?

When you don't read the thread you will miss that it was tab who indicated that he believed the comments about Poyer suggested that he was studding out. Indicated...that he believed...suggested... You are kidding...right?

"Hold out" or not...he skipped OTAs coming off an injury that ended his year last year. He's ours or no-one's for 2015...he had zero leverage.
Pit, He had/has no leverage...none...zero...zip...nada. Holding/sitting/skipping out didn't help his cause one bit...didn't move the needle an inch. (I never suggested that he show up WITHOUT being under contract and "risk being injured". I suggested that he sign the contract and then show up...because what he was originally offered was all he was going to get at the moment. I understand how the process works...apparently better than does his agent.) The contract he finally signed is the only one that he got and was the only one he was going to get until that knee can be evaluated. That knee cannot be evaluated until he shows up at the facility and does his thing. He delayed his opportunity to show his health. Bad decision. It's quite simple actually. The fact that no team offered to sign him to the 2nd rounder tender backs up the claim. I hope he studs out...not being at OTAs under the circumstances was stupid.

Poyer picks off one pass from Johnny Manziel or McCown and he's now beating Gipson on the depth chart? lmao Come on, Tab. To be fair...at the moment that pass was intercepted...Poyer WAS in front of Gipson on the depth chart...since Gipson wasn't even there. Sorry to quote such an old post. However... I'm in the process of reading (actually re-reading) the thread as suggested by Vers and Pit to see who said Poyer was studding out. No luck as of yet...wouldn't want there to be false and misleading info being spread on the board.

Who is claiming that Poyer is 'studding out'? I've seen 'developing' and 'taking advantage' but no 'studding out'. Are you talking about a post or an article? I don't see how a guy can 'stud out' before a game gets played. Look what I found from Tab in this thread: "But what is happening is Poyer is starting to stud out...by all accounts that I'm reading he is. Of course I don't read the possible beats against him or miss tackles on runs??? Its not picture perfect. But the praises from onlookers, teammates, and coaches all seem genuine." That should clarify that Tab is not saying that there are articles stating that Poyer is studding out. Clearly, that is Tab's opinion of Poyer based on what he is reading. Kind of the purpose of a message board...no? Tab has expressed a lot of opinion in this thread...no need to claim that he said something that he did not actually say.
