With the tropical storm swirling just west of the coast and moving towards Georgia and Florida, could be good AND bad.. Be safe, just a heads up.

Nothing to worry about, the tropical storm will douse it.

They usually show up in January, when it is a great place to live.

Nope, in fact we are currently in the worst drought in recorded history here, there are currently 12 fires going on in the immediate 4 counties around me. Including a 1200 acre fire in the Everglades that has shut down the East-West corridor known as Alligator Alley this morning.

Any rain would be welcome.

One thing I don't understand is why our water companies don't invest in desalination here. Instead we go through this every spring where the aquafer runs dry and we have water restrictions, yet 1/2 mile to my west is a HUGE body of water.

Money, plain and simple. Florida has an abundant fresh water supply so I doubt if desal is in anybodys near future plans. Actually the middle east is showing the way as far as desal is concerned and Austrailia is going to have to donate more rescources to this technology. Less and less potable water in the world. In 20 years the fight will be over fresh drinking water not oil.

I don't know where this abundant water supply is, because we are on HEAVY water restrictions right now, people are having wells dug deeper to reach the next aquafer as their current well dries up, and even fire fighters are having difficulty as most of the drainage canals are too low right now to use as a source.

Even those near lake Okeechobee are experiencing it.
Good photos here that show the lake and canals.

I'm here....packin' up my fishing pole and headed for the beach !

Seriously though, we are like 5 inches below our avg. rainfall for the year and it's only May !! But rain is off and on in the forecast for the next week. Big brushfire in Grant has four counties responding plus the guys from Patrick AFB. They should have it under control soon. Meanwhile work smells like a giant cookout. I still love it here and wouldn't want to live anywhere else !

You should do what we did in Bermuda.... turn your roof into a water collection system.... put an in-ground cistern under your plot, have the gutters dump into it.

That would be helpful except that we are like 18" of rain behind our norm. Haven't seen anything but a trace of rain since January.

The smoke has actually cleared here in Tampa..............yesterday was something else..................like a major fog all day long..........and hard to breath!

I tried to take my usual walk on my break and only made it a quarter of the way around the building and turned around to head back in.

It was so bad..............I actually seen a couple of people ride by the buiding on bikes.....they were wearing some type of masks!

They say that Tampa is surrounded by these fires............will have to check out the local news to see if they are under control!

Hopefully the rains are on the way!

day 2, the Ally is still closed, and fire is up to 17,000 acres.

They are predicting that Andrea will bring us some rains down here, but not much, but the high winds beforehand could be a problem.

Interesting news was that a lady was arrested yesterday, when an Officer witnessed her throw a cigarette butt out her car window.

Here's a little more info concerning this red hot state:

The fires are located in these locations!

WALTON COUNTY: 1,200 acres near Bruce.

BRADFORD COUNTY: Three fast-moving fires merged into one 16,000-to-18,000-acre blaze.

ALACHUA COUNTY:3,000 acres about 15 miles northeast of Gainsville.

VOLUSIA COUNTY: 6,800 acres southwest of Ormond Beach.

LAKE COUNTY: 850 acres between Eustis and Deland.

LAKE COUNTY: 1,000 acres three miles southeast of Cassia.

GLADES COUNTY: 600 acres 16 miles northwest of La Belle.

LEE COUNTY: 1,187 acres southeast of Fort Myers.

COLLIER COUNTY: 948 acres 35 miles southeast of Naples in the Big Cypress National Preserve.

COLLIER COUNTY: 16,000 acres 12 miles east of Naples.

As of this morning.........they said we had 212 seperate wildfires happening in this state at one time!

You all enjoy life up there in the beautiful smoke-free state of Ohio........or wherever the hell you live!

I'm the other way. I'd talk Ohio over Florida, 361 out of 365 days of the year. The other 4 days are usually about once every 3 months or so. And they're fleeting.

But if the choice was Ohio and Colorado...the decision would be a whole helluva lot tougher!
