Not sure where you all live, but the number of cars sitting at the bus stops, with kids sitting inside, just amazes me, the kids don't even walk to the bus stops.

I see this even in small apartment complexes, where even a 5 year old can walk to the bus stop unassisted in less than 3 minutes from the farthest building. It must take longer to open, get in, and start the car than to just walk to the bus stop.
I lived just this side of the busing zone. A mile and a half to grade school 2 to jr. high and 2 and a half to high school. Friend's older sister had a car by then.

Nobody thought that was far to walk back then. COLD!!! but not far.

Here is a good rule of thumb. If it was living before you ate it then its healthy enough to eat while its fresh =)

I agree, here they even provide after school busing not only for athletics(which I can somewhat understand), but also detention. Worse yet, is when you are given detention, you are given a choice of what day(I think like within 2 weeks of receiving), and if you want AM or PM, AND they provide EARLY busing for the AM detention.

And they wonder why their busing budget is so out of control?

I've done the keto diet before.

It does work if you stick with it, the hardest part is the first 10 days or so because you'll have energy spikes (both up and down) as well as mood swings cause your body is adjusting to the change.

In 2010 from May until November I did this and lost 53 lbs. (from 345 lbs. down to 292 lbs.)

Then in September 2011 until April 2012 I lost another 58 lbs. (from 330 lbs. down to 272 lbs.)

This year I've gone from 331 lbs. just after Christmas to a current weight of 305 lbs.

Some people just genuinely struggle to lose it, and keep it off.

As I said before, the sugar addiction is real...

As of the last 18 months or so I've become a real gym rat. I go four to five days a week, and I lift along with doing cardio. The problem for me is sticking to a diet, and getting the weight off. I don't really know the best way to approach it, nor do I know how to keep myself mentally motivated. I went extremely hard in January and February this year and lost 18 lbs. real quick, but have since then kind of burned out as far as the mental motivation goes.

If anyone has any dieting tips, effective ways to burn stomach fat, or just general guidelines on how I can stay motivated that would be great.

I'm 6'1, 305 lbs. and I've been a big guy my entire life. I've always struggled to lose and keep it off.

Just playing devil's advocate, but is it possible that women have caught up to the 1960's male because they're in the workforce now? I've seen plenty of women in traditionally male occupations rise in recent decades. I wouldn't disagree that bad eating habits are the primary culprit, but maybe there's more to the story than just that? Then again, men's weight has risen, as well.

Don't diet. Just limit sugars, and eliminate soda.

Oh - if it's good I can eat the same thing 3-4-5 days in a row.

True story: 17 years ago I grilled chicken breasts for dinner one night. Knowing there were 2 left over, in the fridge, I knew what I was having for lunch the next day.

Wife worked/works nights......and she's all "it's got to be fresh, I don't eat leftovers......blah blah blah.....

So, next day I go home for lunch (had a different job back then), open the fridge to get the 2 chicken breasts - and they aren't there.

Long story short - she threw them in the trash when she got home that morning........and, after finding them in the trash, I pulled them out, heated them up, and ate them.

Then, that evening I kind of chewed my wife out for throwing them away.

Left overs don't get thrown out now unless it's been a week.

I don't drink soda.

I cut it out of my diet years, and years ago.

This is increasingly becoming shown to be not true.

And research is showing that eating when you're hungry and only when you're hungry is better than sticking to a meal schedule (whether 3 squares or 5 or 6 small ones)

I've heard from multiple sources over the years (gym partners and trainers as well as various health websites) that five or six small and healthy meals a day are very good for your body as they keep the metabolism moving all day. Five meals a day that are 400 calories or less consisting of fruit, protein and some kind of veggie. Is how a lot of people do it.

Yup and it's based on the idea that shaming of any sort is acceptable. It's not right to shame someone for being overweight but I think going the other way with it and saying "you're 400 lbs and you're healthy" is damaging. You are telling this person to lose decades of their life just so they feel good. It's madness. Doctors are afraid to tell patients to lose weight for fear of being chewed out or sued.

I'm not saying it can't work for you, I'm just saying it has nothing to do with your metabolic rate smile

I eat in the morning because I need to wake up and get going, as well as 2 or 3 cups of black coffee. I know thats alot of coffee but I prefer to drink it lukewarm and all at once... I don't like burning my mouth LOL

After that I can skip lunch until oh around 3PM or so. Then I start feeling hungry. But I keep working to ignore the hunger feeling and usually eat between 4-5. If the wife has a phone call or something going on work wise it can delay dinner until 6 or 7, which can suck sometimes smile but honestly hunger subsides for me after 2 hours or so to a dull sensation.

And even though I'm hungry, i'm eating less at mealtime now than I did before. I'm not sure why precisely... even the wife is surprised at it.

I bet you're right, plus there are more single moms working and struggling to prepare fresh food.

I laugh to myself at those who live limited lives
and eat meager portions after being born into the
greatest Nation for food the world has ever known.

They live to ripe old ages as others feed them and
wash their butts for the last 15 years of their lives.

I will not live as long but as my Momma always said,
"Are you blue today my little 40? Desserts is Stressed spelled backwards. Here, eat something sweetie."

well, that's how we learned it, and it works for me. i understand it doesn't work for everybody.

I'm similar. I get up, have a couple cups of coffee, then maybe snack a little until noon or 1pm. Then I eat a light lunch. Later around 6-7 I eat dinner. Rarely do I ever eat three meals in a day. There are times where I work through hunger. I enjoy eating but at times I see it as a bit of a time killing hassle. If I'm busy on a project I can go much of a day without eating. When I do eat I eat until I'm full. Not until I'm packed stuffed. Now there are exceptions, holidays, the week a year I see my mom and she cooks for me, and BBQ/smoked meats. Those are the three exceptions where I literally amaze (disgust) my friends and family with the amount of food I can pack down. Otherwise I eat modestly.

Mr Kelso have you ever had your doctor test you for your levels of cortisol? It's something caused by being stressed out either physically or mentally. With high levels of cortisol it can be very hard to lose weight. Almost impossible even. It can also lead to heart disease and other issues. There are certain foods that can help lower it but adding some downtime to your routine to simply relax and destress can also help a ton.

Extreme dieting can actually cause large spikes in cortisol levels which is why you tend to see people gain it all right back as they seem out that sugar/chocolate reward once the ordeal is over.

Eating raw apples can help prevent it along with eating spicey salsa. Also its not commonly known but you can eat as many raw red apples as you want. Your body burns more calories digesting it than you gain especially the less sweet apples.

Learning to eat salads with little to no dressing and instead learning how to mix in seasoning and herbs can also help a ton. You can eat all you want if you leave off the dressing. It will fill you up. Adding Salsa to a salad can be a great dressing replacement and super healthy.

You don't need to starve just eat less processed foods and more of what nature provides as it was meant to be eaten.

Y'all are making this weight loss thing to complicated. Try a dose of colon cancer for your weight loss. I dropped 30 pounds eating what I wanted and without breaking a sweat at the gym. There is always a bright side to everything thumbsup

I like curvy women, so the 140-160 lb. range is good for me. I'm in the "the bigger the cushion, the better the pushin'" camp.
