It is only delusions of grandeur to someone who doesn't know what they have the ability and training to do.

J/C ..... A man, bent on killing people, and walking into a house of worship is probably going to be able to kill a bunch of people. Actually, a man bent on killing a bunch of people, walking in almost anywhere, will be able to kill a lot of people. A degree of vulnerability is the price we pay for personal interaction with other people. Even in places with metal detectors at the entrance, a person, working with another, who wants to sneak something in can do so. I recently had to go to court for a friend of mine, and the courthouse had a metal detector at the door, and 1 Deputy running things. If 2 people were working together, it would not have been very hard to sneak something past him while he was involved with someone else. There is no such thing as perfect security as long as you have to let people in.
I really don't want people in my church walking around packing heat. We are there to have communion with God, worship Him, and hopefully help bring people to Him. We should not be there to worry about our own lives. If someone comes in and decides to commit some evil act, then they are probably going to be able to do so. If they do, then I hope that God has some purpose for it. I refuse to turn my church into a shooting range though. That may work for some people, but I just cannot do it. I do not think that I could bring myself to shoot someone in the House of my Lord. Just my $0.02 worth.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
