A robot crushed a worker at a Volkswagen production plant in Germany, the company said Wednesday.
A 22-year-old man was helping to put together the stationary robot that grabs and configures auto parts Monday when the machine grabbed and pushed him against a metal plate, the Associated Press reported. He later died from the injuries. Volkswagen did not release the man’s name.
A spokesperson for the car company told the Associated Press that the robot can be programmed for specific tasks and that the company believes the malfunction was due to human error.

Of course they still need a couple guys to feed mortar and bricks to the machine, a technician on site to repair it when it breaks down, as you know it will break down,a couple guys to set it up and lay the track/scaffold. And it appears to still only do basic straight walls.

We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.
Of course they still need a couple guys to feed mortar and bricks to the machine, a technician on site to repair it when it breaks down, as you know it will break down,a couple guys to set it up and lay the track/scaffold. And it appears to still only do basic straight walls.
Still need the mason for the tough stuff.
For now, there is a bigger version of that machine that lays more bricks faster... only a matter of time.
And yes, it will still require people, just not as many and with a different skill set.
A people can complain that this is taking jobs from people, but the reason these things are being invented is because people don't want these jobs, the construction trades, almost all of them are woefully understaffed.

Yeah, most people want to sit at a desk and type on a computer.
However, there IS an argument to be made that "robots don't take 20 minute breaks twice a day, plus a lunch. They are reliable, never call in sick (unless they break down, obviously), they don't require health insurance, they don't require paid days off/vacation. Etc.
They cost more upfront, no doubt. They also require maintenance, BUT, they also need people to build them, and run them.

I don't mind self-check out if I only have a few items and none of them are produce that needs weighed.
First time I ever used one was 4 or 5 years ago and I had a bag of mixed nuts.. I couldn't figure out how to weigh them and enter the code, etc so I called over this young girl to help me. I didn't realize the thing talks to you so she was showing me how to find and enter the code and when she was done the computer says, "Please place your nuts in the bagging area." She looked at me and giggled and said, "Well that's awkward." I laughed like a 12 year old middle school boy.
