Pretty sure the Franchise Tag is 2 first round picks...unless the new CBA changed that.
I don't think we would give up 2 first round picks. But it would be interesting cause he is young. I would be good going either way on that. Yeah... why would we give up 2 first rounders? We could use our first rounders to draft guys like Weeden, Mingo, Manziel or Gilbert...

Oh I think if that was real, all Browns fans would be energetic at the thoughts going into this season. Russell wouldn't be energetic looking at these WR options... Yeah, with all those all pro WR's he has in Seattle he would really be disappointed here. must be why they are dead last in pass attempts per game. or maybe its the qB? https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/pass-attempts-per-game Interesting..I wouldn't have guessed Pittsburgh at #6 as effective as Bell was.

A guy that young with two trips to the Super Bowl, one with a ring. I would make that trade.

I have very little faith in Ray Farmer's ability to draft in the first round after he took Manziel and Gilbert who were both, by last season's results, poor draft choices. Hopefully at least one of them turns it around. Farmer was also a part of the front office when we took Mingo who has also been very underwhelming for a player taken 6th overall. To Farmer's credit he has made some good personnel decisions but I'd absolutely give up two first round picks for Wilson given the brief draft history Farmer has in Cleveland. I do give Farmer credit for the Shelton pick, which seems like it was a good selection, but only time will tell (as it will with Gilbert and Manizel too).

Knowing that QB and CB are the two most difficult positions and that it (reportedly) takes 2 to 3 years to get up to speed, would you change your opinion on Farmer's ability to draft in the first round should JM and JG show solid development?

I would. I said before the draft it would take Johnny 2-3 years to mature before he would be ready. NOthing has really changed my mind from that. He took his lumps last year. He SEEMS to have learned from it. I say give him some time unless something amazing comes along that we can't pass up.
This draft didn't offer anything any better for where we were drafting at IMHO.

Oh yeah, I could live with him and his voices (do I have to capitalize that word if voices are God's?) if he were to bring a SB title to Cleveland.

'Mike Holmgren weighs in on Russell Wilson's contract situation' http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2015/07/23...ract-situation/Published July 23, 2015 Multiple reports have indicated Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks will cease contract negotiations if a deal is not reached by July 30, once training camp begins. However, former Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren believes Wilson would be making the wrong call should he allow this situation to linger into the 2015 season. "This is not his last contract, he's going to sign another one in four years," Holmgren said on "Mitch in the Morning" radio show. "So I think it's a huge mistake. I just don't understand it. … If he plays this season for a million and a half, then I think it's a huge mistake, I really do." Wilson and his agent have reportedly been seeking a deal worth in excess of $110 million over five years, which would make him the highest-paid quarterback in the league. (end)

one of the LAST people I would listen to in a contract situation is Mike Holmgren.
Unless he's handing money to his own agent, he doesn't know squat.

Russell Wilson turned down $21 million a year from the Seahawks, and it suggests he wants a game-changing deal http://sports.yahoo.com/news/russell-wilson-turned-down-21-144655220.htmlBusiness Insider By Cork Gaines 15 hours ago Russell Wilson has set a deadline for later this week to work out a long-term contract with the Seattle Seahawks, and now we have more evidence that Wilson is seeking to become the highest-paid player in the NFL. Wilson has turned down an offer worth "nearly $21 million per year," according to what Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk has heard through the grapevine. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network appeared to confirm the nature of the offer when he called Florio's number "essentially accurate." In the NFL, only four players have a contract with an average annual value greater than $20.5 million: Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers — $22.0 million (five years, $110 million) Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers — $21.85 million (four years, $87.4 million) Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers — $20.76 million (five years, $103.8 million) Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons — $20.75 million (five years, $103.75 million) Presumably, the Seahawks' most recent offer to Wilson falls somewhere in the neighborhood of Newton and Ryan, but almost certainly in the top five ahead of Joe Flacco, whose deal has an average annual value of $20.1 million. But this is the NFL, and contracts are never this simple. Just as important as, and possibly more important than, the average annual value is the amount of guaranteed money and the amount of money the player receives up-front. The latter is typically the only "fully guaranteed" portion of an NFL contract, with the rest of the guarantees coming into play only in the event of an injury. While Florio's report says there is "significant guaranteed money" in the offer, according to Rapoport, the Seahawks' offer to Wilson includes "below $20 million cash up-front," with the rest being injury guarantees. That is well below the $31 million that Newton received up front or the $30 million that Ryan received up front in fully guaranteed money in the form of first-year salary and bonuses. Rather, the offer appears to be much closer to the $18.1 million in up-front cash the Bengals gave Andy Dalton in his six-year, $96 million deal. That is nothing to scoff at, but Russell Wilson is not Andy Dalton. Peter King of Sports Illustrated takes it a step further and points out that Rodgers signed his deal in 2013, when the NFL salary cap was $123 million and his salary represented 17.9% of the cap. The cap is now $143.3 million, and an equivalent percentage would be a salary of $25.6 million, suggesting Wilson is being lowballed with a $21 million offer. Wilson has said he wants a deal in place before the start of training camp, which is later this week, or he will play the 2015 season under his current $1.5 million salary. Based on what the Seahawks' most recent offer appears to be, it doesn't look as if a deal will get done. (end)

I think wilson is a fool. he is squabbling over a few million and if he gets hurt he could lose 80 million.

I think the NFLPA has a lot to do w/it, too. They expect their players to get all the money they can, which in turn, helps out the rest of the players in their negotiations w/their respective teams.
I have mixed feelings on these contract situations. On one hand, I think that is a ludicrous amount of money and it drives the price of everything else up. On the other hand, I can't side w/the owners who sit up in their luxury boxes while wearing suits and sipping mixed drinks while the players are spilling blood on the field.

That good guy image is going to wear out quick.. He got the same guarantees as Adny Dalton did several years ago. The average annual salary is important only if you collect it. I can see why he would prefer to wait. (much as Joe Flacco did several years ago)

I think wilson is a fool. he is squabbling over a few million and if he gets hurt he could lose 80 million. I agree. I don't know the structure of the deal but he is taking a gigantic risk.... First, he is set to make $1.5 million this year.. so by deferring this another year, he would immediately be losing almost $20 million in real cash money that he would need to recover through his new contract just to get back to even. Second, he could get hurt, which could greatly impact his value. Third, the Seahawks could have other injuries or problems that make them a 9-7 team this year which would greatly impact his value. He seems to be suffering from what Dan Marino explained... he got to the super bowl in what, his second year? and he admitted that he just expected that it would be a regular thing.. and he never ever got back. Wilson seems to be betting on the Seahawks not having any issues staying at the top of the NFL. And I say that because there are already questions about how much of their success is Wilson and how much is the talent around him.. if that talent gets hurt and the team struggles, it will validate those who think Wilson is overrated and he won't get paid like he expects.

You've seen already they've been able to keep a lot of the bigger peices, and add a few here and there, because they were basically paying him nothing..
Once they add that Franchise QB salary to the books, you will see them have to make decisions they haven't had to so far..
Obviously, if this offer is legit, they do view him as a Franchise QB.. And will eventually pay him as such..
I've just never understood this idea that every new big contract has to be bigger than the last.. I understand inflation and everything.. But I feel there needs to eventually be a cut off.. maybe the NFL should look into "Max" salaries..
The question is.. who should get more, Wilson or Luck?

One thing I want to point out is that folks were saying that he wants to get paid more than anyone else, but his estimated demands aren't much different than Cam Newton and Andy Dalton. That kind of muddied the water for me, as I'd put Wilson right up there or higher than those two, and they're bringing in the big bucks. The fact that he'd be paid more than Rodgers isn't right, but he signed his contract a while ago.
Suddenly, Wilson's demands don't seem all that outrageous.

There just are not many QB's like Tom Brady who will take less money in order to have more super bowl rings. When you overpay for these mediocre QB's the entire team takes a nose dive because then they can't afford the talent that covers up their weaknesses. Yet if you don't then you're in even worse situation where your QB sucks so bad all the talent in the world can't make you win.

Granted, yes, the qb position is by far the most demanding and proably deserving of higher pay, but when teams are sinking their funds for avg qbs, it becomes a team killer in some instances because it limits what a front office can pursue and etc.

A lot of cash I'd imagine
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Good for Wilson...did anyone really think this GM may have let Wilson walk...if so the kid would have walked away taken that GM's job with him. Its the one position that teams would saddle themselves with even putting a dent in the Cap but won't let go.
That and Left Tackle...almost all LT's let go were either injury problems (Long) or not real LTs more RTs no Pro Bowl LTs who are in their prime get let go.
Now the other two Parity Breakers (there are 4 in my book, QB, LT, Edge rushers, Cover Corner...maybe a 5th for 3-4 Defense NT) that get let go cause that contract might be too much.
Is Edge Rushers and definitely CBs.
jmho - I only took credence to the let walk thing so the Browns would take a shot on him...now that was a Fantasy...lol

If we're talking about impact and premium position, you could argue Aaron Rodgers is severely underpaid. Just look at what other guys make right now.
