Here swish. One of the photos I'm most proud of. Not because it's artistic. It's my 67 year old step dad. I personally guided him fishing for steelhead on the Deschutes River in central Oregon. He caught two fish that day. This was his second. Watching his face light up was priceless. This was a 14 pound fish and it gave him quite a fight. It was the biggest fish of his life and the last time he was able to make that trek with me. At his age, now 70, he can't handle the the steep terrain hike to get to my spot. It was tough on him then but he was a trouper. Fished for 6 hours straight that day after a long hike. Then hiked out. Barely a complaint even the next day. I know he put up a good front. The trail in makes me hurt.

It is amazing how something so destructive can also be so strangely beautiful.

I visited Settlers' Landing Park last night to take in the fireworks in downtown Cleveland. I came armed with a tripod, my Nikon D3300, a 50mm 1.8 lens, and a comfy chair to watch and shoot pictures of fireworks. Here was my setup and vantage point:

I came out with gems like these:

There's many more at much larger sizes that I took, but I wanted to share those two.

I've launched a personal photo display site. All of the posts link to my Flickr page that will contain further photos from me.

I bought a t4i a couple years ago and love taking pictures. Way behind on developing some though. This one was in Verona Italy. We stumbled across a high end car show right outside the coliseum there.

My first, and really only, attempts at a long exposure daytime shot. Unfortunately I didn't notice the hair on the lense and it kept building up with mist as well.

Don't feel bad, the only reason I know is because Pagani cars are in my favorite video game, Gran Turismo. grin

Thanks. It was beautiful. It was a rainy day but we had a nice hike through the woods to get there.

This picture is this narrow, windy road, that we had to drive up to get to this hotel/mansion we rented out in Florence, Italy. We ended up being the only ones there so we had run of the place and made us feel way cooler than we actually are.

THanks everyone. I've got a handful more that I really like that I've done. I'll post as I get through them.

Most of my favorites are with my family and I won't bore you with those.

Someday I'll upgrade the camera. I love learning and I'm still very much a novice.

Spent the last week on the coast in North Carolina. About 5 minutes after this pic was snapped, a shark popped up out of the water. Shark on one side of the pier. People were still in the water on the other side. Unreal. Locals got a kick out of us going bonkers over a shark. It was exciting. This pier has a special section for King and Spanish fisherman, but there weren't any there at the time. I would love to see those guys in action.

Also, if any of you have been following the news the last 24 hours, a deck collapsed and a bunch of people got hurt, some critically. That happened down the street from our place. We were actually driving home from dinner when ambulances were flying past us in both directions. Crazy. We thought it was a shark attack. I have more pictures from our trip if anyone wants to see. We checked out Fort Macon for a day which was pretty awesome.

Yeah, I tried to get the Tower Bridge in London at night, but didn't have my tripod. I tried resting my camera on the railing of the bridge we were on, but it was round, and vibrating slightly from the traffic passing by.

I need to get me a monopod for travel, my tripod is just too cumbersome to pack, and even more so to carry around all day.

....and here are some Kirtland's warblers from their summer nesting areas in the jack pine stands of northern Michigan. Amazing that there are only 2,000 of these males in existence that make the annual flight from the Bahamas.

I have a Slik II tripod. Pretty lightweight (under 2 lbs) and still has decent versatility as far as size range.

I use a monopod for most of my wildlife shots. It gives me enough stability for the fast shutter speeds I use while allowing me to quickly change position. If I need a shutter speed slower than 1/180 or so, I'll break out the tripod.

I went to the Pro Football Hall of Fame last week. It was sorta tough finding anything worth taking a picture of, and constantly switching between a 50mm prime, and a kit lens isn't too fun.

I came out with these:

Will you be posting pictures of the Aurora Borealis? I've always found that fascinating.

I'll try if I get a chance to head north of the Arctic circle; I'm not that far up. Fairbanks would be the ideal spot for those kinds of photos.

Well done!

Mind sharing the camera, lens, exposure time and all that? Or does the sky just look like that where you are?
