'Tebow makes his Philly debut' http://sports.yahoo.com/news/tebow-makes-philly-debut-214118126--nfl.htmlBy ROB MAADDI (AP Pro Football Writer) 3 hours ago AP - Sports PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- A slimmer Tim Tebow threw passes in shorts while a horde of reporters critiqued his mechanics and analyzed his arm motion. Welcome to Philly, Tim. The 2007 Heisman Trophy winner spoke to a large gathering of media for the first time Thursday since signing a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles last month. Tebow praised coach Chip Kelly and teammates, explained his new appreciation for football after being out of the NFL for two years and emphasized his role is quarterback. ''I think you just go out and you compete and you try to earn whatever you can,'' Tebow said. ''It's just about competing, trying to get better every day and that's the goal.'' A former first-round pick by Denver, Tebow is hoping to earn a roster spot on his fourth team. Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez are the team's two top quarterbacks, so Tebow will battle Matt Barkley for the No. 3 job. Tebow was 9-7 as a starter with the Broncos in 2010-11, including a playoff win. He was traded to the New York Jets after Denver signed Peyton Manning and threw just eight passes in 2012. He bulked up and even played special teams as a punt protector for the Jets. Tebow was released by the New England Patriots after training camp in 2013. ''Sometimes when things get taken away, you don't realize how much fun it is to come out here and play this game,'' Tebow said. ''You can't play it forever, so I'm going to enjoy it. It's a blessing.'' Tebow worked as a television analyst last year with the SEC Network and ESPN. He also spent time the past two years with former major league pitcher Tom House working on improving his mechanics. ''I think he's improved,'' Kelly said. ''He spent a lot of time the last two years in terms of working on his game.'' The knock against Tebow has been his passing. His career completion percentage is 47.9. ''It was very helpful,'' Tebow said about working with House. ''When you get an opportunity to really just dig deep and train to get better, it's always helpful. You figure out what you want to work on and work on it every single day and really have a process, not just one day or one week, but a process of going through it.'' Kelly's up-tempo offense suits Tebow's athleticism. Tebow ran for 2,947 yards and 57 touchdowns at Florida where he led the Gators to two national championships. He has 989 yards rushing and 12 TDs in the NFL. ''I really like him,'' Tebow said about Kelly. ''He's an innovator. Wherever he's been, he's changed how the game has been played in a lot of different ways. It's fun to play for someone like that. ''I've done some similar stuff in the past. I really enjoy it. It's an offense that really keeps defenses on their heels in a lot of different ways with tempo, with formations, playing fast. There's a lot of different ways that you can take advantage of certain things in this offense.'' Many have wondered if Kelly brought Tebow here to be a situational player. He could take advantage of his dual-threat skills on short-yardage plays or the two-point conversion. ''I'll do whatever I can to help the team,'' Tebow said. --- Follow Rob Maaddi on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AP-RobMaaddi--- AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP-NFL

One more for ya: 'Dez Bryant shows up at Cowboys OTAs, Tim Tebow struggles with Eagles' http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2015/5/28/8683383/dez-bryant-otas-cowboys-tim-tebow-eagles'Tebow is still a quarterback' Tim Tebow remains a popular topic as he tries to launch a comeback as quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. Although Chip Kelly intends for Sam Bradford to be the full-time starter once healthy, he's been limited in practices, which is giving Mark Sanchez and Tebow plenty of looks. Sanchez took all of the first-team snaps on offense on Thursday, but Tebow, making his first public appearance as an Eagles quarterback, got in some work with the third team. How did Tebow look? Not great, according to Jeff McLane of Philly.com. While some have suggested that Tebow's throwing motion is much improved, McLane claimed that "there didn't appear to be much difference than how he looked two years ago." Regardless, Kelly noted that the Eagles aren't considering moving him to another position, saying that Tebow has improved as a passer and has "spent a lot of time in the last few years in terms of working on his game," as posted by NFL.com.

'It looks like Tim Tebow is going to make the Eagles' http://sports.yahoo.com/news/looks-tim-tebow-going-eagles-181855202.htmlBusiness Insider By Emmett Knowlton 16 hours ago When Tim Tebow signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in April, it seemed like a long shot that he'd actually make the team's final 53-man roster. He'd been out of the NFL for two years after stints with the Broncos and Jets, and most recently had been cut by the Patriots before the 2013 season. Although Tebow spent 18-months relearning how to throw and how to play quarterback while moonlighting for ESPN, the prevailing logic around the league was that he still faced an uphill battle in Philadelphia — a team that already had three quarterbacks in Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez, and Matt Barkley. But after two days of Eagles training camp, it's sounds increasingly likely that Tebow will make the final 53-man roster in place of Barkley. During the first two days of camp, Tebow and Barkley have split reps with the third team, and the Eagles are reportedly looking to deal Barkley to any team that will take him. This leaves the third quarterback position available for Tebow. According to Jimmy Kempski of the Philly Voice, the consensus around the team is Tebow is expected to make the roster: "Over the last few weeks, chatter among some people who are plugged in with the team believe that the Eagles didn't just sign Tim Tebow because he's a nice guy, or a 'camp arm.' Their sentiment is that the Eagles not only intend to keep him, but they intend to use him." Tebow has also captured the attention of other members of the Eagles. "Tim Tebow is going to shock a lot of people because he’s going to make the team," Eagles edge rusher Brandon Graham said on Detroit radio. "I think he'll play a lot." Although Tebow has struggled in his various stints around the NFL, it's not crazy to think that he might actually have a role — albeit a minor one — this year with the Eagles. In April, a report suggested that Chip Kelly was planning to experiment with short-yardage packages designed specifically for Tebow. Although Tebow isn't the best passer in the league, his athleticism allows him to thrive in short yardage situations because the defense must honor both the possibility that he can run and that he can throw. His game-winning touchdown against the Jets in 2011 happened for this exact reason: by covering the receivers, the Jets defense allowed Tebow to slip out of the pocket and run it in himself. Conversely, if a defense assumes Tebow will run and prepares this way, they'll leave receivers open. NFL defenses are more sophisticated than simply covering the run or the throw, but Tebow nevertheless complicates things. That Tebow is a dangerous offensive threat in short yardage situations is the main reason Kelly will consider using him in such circumstances. But there's another reason for slotting Tebow into these 3rd-and-1 or 4th-and-inches plays: they're often the most dangerous for quarterbacks. Keeping the ball often leads to a big hit, and a sneak across the line of scrimmage to gain just a few inches might land the quarterback at the bottom of a pile of linemen. Bradford is coming off two knee surgeries in two years, if the Eagles can use Tebow — and use him well — there's the added benefit of keeping Bradford healthy. Of course, it's important to remember that Tebow, should he make the team, will be the third-string QB and that third-string quarterbacks rarely, if ever, see the field. But Chip Kelly is perhaps the most creative offensive coach in the league, so should anyone finally find a role for Tebow to fill, it's him. (end)

I called him Barely when he was in college, because he was barely worth a quarter of a second worth of consideration as a QB. People went crazy for him the year before, and Some thought that he might have gone #1 overall. I was thankful about that, because we didn't have the 1st overall pick. He is not an NFL QB. He has a noodle arm. He has been beat out by Tim Tebow a week into camp. I realize that we have a weak QB group as well ...... but you don't make a fleet of so-so cars better by adding a Yugo that has been rejected by its former owner. We added McCown, and he was a so-so selection. We have Manziel, who may, or may not, become anything worthwhile on the field. We have Shaw and Lewis, both of whom I would take over Bradford any day of the week, month, or year.

Just shows how feeble the evaluation of College QBs are...Barclay was said to be an Overall #1 candidate in ??? his junior year and opted to stay his senior year had an injury and the rest is history. I don't think his injury hurt his QB play not a major injury.

jmho Following his Junior season, he was talked about as a potential 1st overall pick. No. 1 in 2013? How USC's Matt Barkley can cement draft status - NFL.com http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d82...nt-draft-statusThere are many others, and a simple Google search will pull them up. People were wetting themselves over this guy. saying how incredible he was, and so on, blah blah, blah, blah .... I don't think that you were on this board at the time. Some took offense to my calling him "Barely", so I stopped that ..... but time told out ..and proved that he is barely a QB. I never bought it.

I disagree that it doesn't hurt, as it takes reps away from the guys we have now, and spreads them out more.. So you know less about everyone, including the guy you brought in who has to learn the new playbook..
He had the best WRs in College and couldn't do anything with them..
He's another Brady Quinn, dump off, dump off, miss deep..
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

This is not the way these decisions should be made, but on the level of being mocked in the national media and on this board by our visitors... I don't want to be the team that signs the guy that got beat out by Tim Tebow... we don't need that kind of publicity...

Tebow and Barkley have split reps with the third team
So Tebow is turning heads by competing for the 3rd QB spot. This is akin to us getting riled up over who is getting more reps, Thaddy Lew or Shaw. What does the 3rd string QB get in terms of reps during TC practice, 4 or 5? Yawn.
Seems like an article written to drive traffic for ad clicks.

One thing though, Tebow seems like the ideal fit for that Duck offense. I wouldnt be suprised to see him actually starting before this year is over. The guy is a better football player than most want to give him credit for. Bradford can't stay healthy and SAnchez is a buttfumble away from being arena league. I like Tebow's chances up there.

Tebow looked poor for the most part (as did the OL and RBs he was playing with).
If he can't succeed in Chip's offense, he'll never succeed in the NFL.
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

If he can't succeed in Chip's offense, he'll never succeed in the NFL. I think if and when they use him during a regular season game it will be once in a while, to try to keep Bradshaw from being injured again. It actually sounds like a good idea. P.S. I like Chip Kelly, he's innovative.

I just watched highlights of the Eagles game...I think Tebow may have scratched himself off the roster with that performance. However seeing how Bradford played it would have been nice to land him here.

Just think for a minute where we would be if the Browns had taken Sammy Watkins/Derek Carr or Teddy Bridgewater instead of Johnny Manziel and Justin Gilbert? We cannot afford to keep blowing the top draft picks if we ever expect to win consistently!I for one would have more respect for the Browns organization if they admitted they made a mistake with these picks now instead of waiting until there is no hope to gain any value for these players.

Hey look at his record - no denying that also one Playoff win - something no other Browns QB has from 99 to present! If you are willing to have your quarterback throw the ball 10 or fewer times a game EVERY game, then yes Tebow can play. You better have one HELL of a defense. I mean badass. And you better have one hell of a running game. Because you're going to be handing off or having Tebow run it himself a LOT. Almost every down. Yes, it is possible to win with a QB like Tebow, but EVERY thing else has to fall in to place. Odds are against it.

But he has been hurt. Often. The guy that interested me was Nick Foles. I wonder if Kelly would have taken Johnny in trade for Foles? He's far from a sure thing of course. But he has played some very good football at times. 27 touchdowns and 2 picks is getting it done. Right system where you aren't putting it all on him? He might be just what the Dr. ordered. I'd take him over McCown anyday. Alas.......

It seems like Kelly had his eyes on Bradford the whole time. He really is perfect for Kelly's system. Smart, accurate, quick release. He just is fragile. That's why they have Sanchez, if Bradford goes down they know they can be as good as they were last year with Sanchez (which is just about average).

I still don't understand why the Rams traded Bradford for Foles, all they basically got was a 2nd rounder next year. Seems like Bradford is a much better QB, I can only guess the Rams had no confidence in Bradfords ability to last a full season.

You might wish to actually break that game film down instead of just looking at his stats.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
