I wonder what the turn around is on that?

I just saw elsewhere where it said about a month. He should be ready near the start of the season. Thanks

I agree and hope for the best. Is a couple weeks pretty standard for a bruised knee? When he plays on fire, i like his game. Just not so much when he coasts now and then.

Is this same deal for Mingo? Heard knee, but nos specifics.

Damn.

Some outlets are calling it a torn meniscus.

I think Pettine admitted they're bringing in outside sources due to all the hamstring injuries. Make sure they're stretching, eating right, getting enough sleep and a big important factor to make sure they're hydrating enough.

If Miles Austin were here, I doubt he'd have a hammy issue haha

Not going to lie I'm one of the hardest on Mingo, was hoping he wouldn't get hurt this year so I could see more of him. Unfortunately I haven't viewed a defender on our team that looks totally lost out here since I last watched Chaun Thompson. Was hoping Mingo would tear it up this year, on the field wise not his knee...I just sadly don't see him doing anything in the league. Injury prone, weak, uncoordinated, and sadly the guy just doesn't have much football IQ.

I like BM and really wanted to see him do well. Tough break but if he works hard at rehab he could be ready for start of season. I still feel he can be a good player for us.

'Cleveland Browns Training Camp Report: Day 7 - Look Out for the Drone'

http://www.dawgsbynature.com/2015/8/6/9111817/cleveland-browns-training-camp-report-day-7

Desir the Latest Victim of the Hamstring: The dreaded hamstring injury has taken its toll on Browns players this camp, and the latest victim is CB Pierre Desir. That might open up a few more opportunities for CB Justin Gilbert, who is looking to be more involved in the game besides the option of returning kicks. Andrew Gribble of Browns.com notes that when CB Joe Haden rested near the end of practice, Gilbert had some reps with the first-team defense in 11-on-11 drills.

Injuries are an interesting topic. You can tell that some of our posters know quite a bit about physical conditioning and it's cool to read their posts. I know a bit, but have fallen behind in the past several years.

One thing that has perplexed me in recent years. For all of our more advanced knowledge and understanding of training, conditioning, and practice routines, we seemingly have witnessed an increase in the number of injuries each year.

TC practices are much less physically demanding and intense than they were years ago. There is way less tackling and hitting. Guys get more breaks. Reps are monitored. Yet, more guys get hurt than in the days of full contact.

I have a few thoughts [not certain knowledge] about this topic and would love to "discuss" the reasons as to why there are more injuries today.

Anyone interested in that conversation?

Yes.

I sometimes wonder if back then they were just more of the thought of 'acting like a man and playing through the pain,' given shots of painkillers (if need be) more often then now?

Maybe onto something there....ripped my hammy and every year I'd turn on that 3rd gear and come up hopping. Until I got fat and slow...then no 3rd gear and no more Hammy... rofl

I thought Wynn's injury wasn't high ankle?

It was a high ankle sprain but not the 2 to 4 month constant swelling type supposedly.

What I heard was they felt it might have been a high ankle sprain. But from every source I know of, it's been diagnosed as a severe ankle sprain, but not a high ankle sprain.

Maybe it's due to the year-round work these guys have to put in. They never really give their muscles a chance to rest? I mean, I know there are all kinds of treatments available to them, but maybe just resting is the best medicine.

Also, I'd like to see something that shows how many injuries there are now vs. how many injuries there were in training camps in the past 30 years. Are there truly more now? Or just more outlets to report them?

I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

You might be on to something, 79. Before the days of twitter and online up to the minute reporting, would we even have heard about minor hammys and whatnot?

Yes.. I sometimes wonder if the trainers involved weren't qualified to condition the players...

Then I think maybe it's just the stress of the game.. bigger paychecks more players to have to beat out to get on the roster ..so there's more guys pushing themselves..

Then it might be as simple as the game is involving into players having to be faster off the line due to the fact that the league has become more of a passing league, which requires faster pace and stress on the hammys. Then the old days of the RB's. Then Earl Campbell comes to mind.

Then I read "79" and Jfanets about the fact of media being able to report it quicker..

All I know is It really is troubling hearing about the injuries.

Yeah, I think several of you have brought up really good points. Let me see if I can remember them:

--Back in the day, players played through injuries. Today, players and teams are more careful due to enormous amounts of money that is at stake.

--Athletes are like finely-tuned machines. Yeah, I was thinking of performance cars. They run great, but they break-down a lot. I sometimes think that guys who have no fat on them get more muscle injuries, like hammies, quads, calves, etc.

--The increased media presence is surely a factor. Everything is reported now. I will say that more guys seem to be sitting out of practices than even during the time when I was a kid, but yeah, we certainly get more updates now than back in the day.

--I agree w/all of the things you guys have said. There is one more that I will add. I sometimes believe that the more you limit contact, the more you put yourself at risk of having injuries when you do incorporate contact. The players aren't as used to the contact and when they do get hit--or when they make new movements--because there is about to be contact.....new injuries can occur.

the draft used to be in the paper the next day.

im sure hearing about a 2 week injury would not have been reported. plus that 2 weeks would have been shorter back then.

but damn imaging practicing against night train lane or some of them. youd think there would have been a ton of injuries with the equipment and rules of yesteryear

I think this is a great point.

I also think some of these guys are adding to much muscle, hell even the fatties arent fat anymore... I have no proof or knowledge to support this but IMO I think these guys are losing flexibility with all this bulking up. The injury reports are full of pulls, and tears everywhere

in the time just before training camp, the players arent allowed at the team facilities at all right? no dealing with the trainers or any one?

if thats the case, i can see their 'off campus' training possibly being a major candidate for why we see so many injuries this time of year.

i was into personal training for a little while, and you come to realize that in order to sell yourself as better than another personal trainer, you must be able to provide tangible results. More pounds of muscle mass. more pounds lifted. x many milliseconds off this drill. what ever it is. its always a number, something tangible you can give them to show progress.

then every trainer does that. then its competition for how much, how quickly.

soon you cant help but phase out 10 minutes from warm ups, 5 minutes from stretching. add heavier lifting instead, show a bigger number.

these guys want to show up to camp after OTAs 8 pounds heavier, lifting 160 more on their big 3 like coach told them. they dont see inside their leg that their hamstring hasnt stretched and grown 100% in sync with their quads or that positive range of motion worked one way, but not compensated for enough the other way... No, they see they got their numbers right.

hell yeah. he probably gets some good word of mouth too.

couple weeks later when dude twists funny with another guy, it doesnt seem to have any connection...

just an observation of what it could be haha im rambling

Oh hell no:

'Browns Pro Bowl tackle Joe Thomas injures leg in practice'

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/browns-pro-bowl-tackle-joe-thomas-injures-leg-165238108--nfl.html

By TOM WITHERS (AP Sports Writer)
AP - Sports

BEREA, Ohio (AP) -- The Browns are awaiting further test results on Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Thomas, who injured his right leg in practice Monday.

Thomas, who has never missed a play in his NFL career since 2007, yelled when his leg was rolled into during an 11-on-11 scrimmage. He hobbled off and was checked by a trainer, who tested Thomas' knee stability and looked at his ankle. As Thomas lay on the ground, quarterback Josh McCown and center Alex Mack came over to check on his condition.

''He'll be all right, I think,'' Mack said after the workout. ''I'm anxious to find out, too.''

Thomas walked to the team's facility under his own power. Browns coach Mike Pettine said the eight-time Pro Bowler will have more tests.

The 6-foot-6, 312-pound Thomas is the first offensive lineman in NFL history to make the Pro Bowl in each of his first eight seasons. He has played 7,917 consecutive snaps since the first start of his rookie season in 2007.

Browns linebacker Paul Kruger said Thomas' injury sent a scare through the entire team.

''For sure,'' he said. ''Anytime guys go down, but there's cornerstone guys that you really need out there, and Joe has been an effective player for a long time and you want to take of those guys and make sure they're healthy. I'm hoping everything is OK.''

The Browns open the exhibition season on Thursday against Washington, and if Thomas can't play rookie lineman Cam Erving could see time with Cleveland's starting offense.
