Yes it should but unfortunately with a fear/phobia that doesn't happen. Using my spider example: If you were bitten by a spider and now had a fear/phobia of spiders it's very likely your gonna be afraid of all spiders not just the type that bit you.

I'm saying someone with a phobia has an issue that needs medical attention. If someone had a traumatic experience such as an assault or rape that involved someone of color, they need counseling. You can be afraid of something that you don't hate.



Now you've just totally changed the issue. There is a huge difference between being afraid of letting someone into your home than showing public displays of aggression.

I feel sorry for everyone who has undergone traumatic experiences that effect their life. Whether it's a soldier coming home with PTSD from the trauma of war or someone having any other traumatic experience that has a negative impact on their life. I'm sure there are many of our black citizens that have a negative with the police or members of other races that negatively impact their life the same.

The difference between you and I seem to be I'm not basing my compassion upon race and circumstances.

If you, in the scenario you mentioned, were afraid of white people because a white person (or a group of them) did some sort of harm to you in the past, that would be fear, not racism. IMO. I know that may seem like a super fine line, but I think it exists.

However, valid points are being made.

The lady in the story appears to be racist. We don't know that, but the assumption could be made.

My point isn't about the race of a person. If a black woman had been beaten by a white cop and was now afraid to go anywhere white people are the majority to shop, I would feel the same way. If she were afraid to have a white delivery driver bring an appliance to her home, I would feel the same.

When any major violent act against another human being brings trauma into their life, I have compassion for that person. It could be black on black violence or white on white violence that would cause someone to be in that situation involving people of their own race.

I just believe trauma induced by violence is something we should all be willing to have compassion for no matter the circumstance. I don't really take issue with people who feel differently, but I won't let race in either direction make me feel less compassion with someone who has to deal with the consequences of that violent action.

I guess the only thing that really disturbed me was the impression that some may have seen that as me being insensitive to the racial problems I fully understand exist in this country. That's in no way true.

Yep. The only cure is repeated exposure to my "fear".

Don't worry. We know where you stand and we know how down you are. I just want to say, that a lot of my friends, whose racism I overlook, have said very racist things to me about black people, and sound frightened or mention how fearful they are to me. I really believe that every racist has a psychological condition based on fear. I found racists to be very xenophobic in general and we can only base this on their fear. That's why I won't be cutting this woman any slack.

Delivery Driver being replaced vs shooting a cop. What's more important? Obviously, life isn't all that important if you are white and a cop.

Sorry that we don't follow the news in states we don't live in. I'm really sorry, seriously. I should start focusing on news that live in my area. Also, it's not relevant. I didn't post the black-on-white crime story because it would only add fuel the fire of an already escalated situation. There are numerous stories out there that address racial attacks and misdeeds.

I chose to ignore that story---and many others---because I don't want to classify all blacks as murderous white cop killers. I would rather judge each individual, regardless of race or sex, on their own INDIVIDUAL acts, rather than trying to make wide-ranging, broad statements about any one single group of people.

I do NOT feel the need to post black on white crimes/misdeeds or black on black crimes/misdeeeds simply because my black friends on here ONLY post white on black crimes or misdeeds.

Fighting hate w/hate only perpetuates the problem and makes one as much of a racist, bigot, etc as those you hate.

I would rather we work to find solutions to our problems than making hundreds of posts on how awful the "other side" is.

The shooting of the cop in Memphis was a national headline. So was the killing of the baby by the black mother. So was the rioting of the idiots in Ferguson who chose to loot establishments while the police were busy w/the protesters, but you didn't post any of that.

Vers, you're one of the most prejudice people I know and your link proves it. You think because a black person shoots a white person that it's racially motivated. It's not. You're looking for imaginary slights like always. It's part of your victim complex. I believe what motivated the guy to shoot the cop is that he is a felon, owns a gun and doing drug deals. That means life in prison. If that Policeman was black instead of white, he would have still been killed. This wasn't a racially motivated shooting.

How am I prejudice though?
