5 observations from Day 11 of Cleveland Browns training camp

The next time the Browns practice in front of fans, they’ll have a preseason game under their belts.

After a walk-through Wednesday, the Browns will hit I-71 North to FirstEnergy Stadium for their preseason opener against the Washington Redskins.

Here’s what you need to know after Tuesday’s practice.

1) Johnny Manziel takes day off from throwing

Quarterbacks coach Kevin O’Connell said Manziel had a “heck of a day mentally,” but the second-year signal caller didn’t throw a pass during Tuesday’s practice -- at least not with his throwing arm.

Manziel is dealing with a sore elbow, said Browns coach Mike Pettine, who cited the extensive repetitions Manziel has had not just during practice, but in extra throwing sessions at OTAs and throughout the summer. The soreness is not considered to be serious and Manziel is expected to play against the Redskins.

“It just was an accumulation of reps, started to get a little sore,” Pettine said. “We would do that with any of the guys but he was the one that was experiencing some stiffness.”
Connor Shaw and Thaddeus Lewis divvied up the repetitions with the second-team offense throughout practice. Shaw took most of the snaps with the group during a competitive red-zone drill near the end.

O’Connell said he closely monitors throw counts among the four members of his group. He wasn’t concerned that Manziel’s fatigue showed up in his elbow rather than the shoulder, which is another common trouble spot for quarterbacks.

“Depending on how the guy throws a football and we’re all different, different levels, some guys get the shoulder soreness, some get the elbow,” O’Connell said. “There’s nothing really to make of it other than just high volume of throws in a short amount of time.”

2) Michael Bowie, Cameron Erving prepped to fill Joe Thomas’ spot

The leg injury Thomas incurred at Monday’s practice isn’t serious. Whether or not he’ll play Thursday against the Redskins will have nothing to do with it, Pettine said.

With Thomas out Tuesday, the Browns moved forward with Erving and Bowie splitting repetitions with the first-team offense. Erving, who has mostly played at right guard with the second team, worked with the unit at the start of practice while Bowie, who has almost exclusively been a second-team right tackle, took every first-team snap during the end-of-practice red zone drill. Andrew McDonald, who had been the primary backup left tackle since the start of training camp, did not practice Tuesday.

Thomas said he’s enjoyed seeing the progress of both players, particularly when it comes to giving them a tip one day and seeing them follow through with it at the next practice. He called his relationship with Erving “great.”

“He’s a really eager learner, which is important for any rookie,” Thomas said. “Some rookies you see come in and act like they know everything and they don’t want to hear what you have to say to them. If I see something the coaches didn’t see or just from my experience as a player, I can give him a little bit of a tip. I enjoy doing that and he’s been very receptive to that.”

3) Injury roundup

None of the players who sat out Monday’s practice were back Tuesday, meaning their respective statuses for Thursday’s game are doubtful.

Among the sidelined players were WRs Dwayne Bowe (hamstring) and Terrelle Pryor (hamstring), RBs Duke Johnson (hamstring) and Shaun Draughn (hand), DBs Pierre Desir (hamstring) and Robert Nelson Jr. (hamstring) and DL Billy Winn (ankle).

4) Some insight on the Browns’ fourth-rounders

There are only so many questions to ask about the Browns’ first- and second-round picks. On Day 11, Pettine handled a couple of queries about his fourth-rounders, defensive back Ibraheim Campbell and wide receiver Vince Mayle.

Campbell has been a fixture with the second-team defense working alongside Jordan Poyer in the spot typically occupied by Donte Whitner. During Tuesday’s red-zone drill, Campbell made a nice, over-the-shoulders interception.

“He’s very smart,” Pettine said of the Northwestern alum. “Very curious to see how he is I know he’ll be a big part of (special teams coordinator Chris Tabor’s) plans as a core teamer. He’ll get a lot of work there and he’ll certainly get a good chunk of the game at safety.”

Mayle has also been a second-teamer. After an admitted slow start to camp, Mayle has flashed some in recent days and hauled in one of the longest passes of Monday’s practice.

Pettine circled Mayle, who sat out OTAs with a broken thumb, as a player he’ll be monitoring closely Thursday.

“For us, I think he’s faster in pads than we anticipated him to be,” Pettine said. “He plays hard every snap, that’s an encouraging thing. Good things will happen when you have that mentality but we’ll see. He’s one of those guys too- how’s he going to respond in a game situation.”

5) Other observations

-- WR Josh Lenz, who got in the end zone three times during Tuesday’s red zone drill, is wearing a new number. After sporting No. 7 since he signed with the Browns in May, Lenz is now No. 17.

-- Pettine lumped Pryor in the same category as Johnson when it pertained to how important it will be to see the playmakers on the practice field before implementing them into the game plan. “We need to know what we have in both those guys,” Pettine said, “And when they’re not out there, it hurts us.”

-- FB Malcolm Johnson (shoulder) practiced and went through 11-on-11 drills, but he sported a red, non-contact jersey.

You dont make the team riding a bike. Duke is pretty safe but Pryor odds go down with every day he misses.

A week ago I thought Pryor was a lock and they were being cautious with his hamstring ... Now I'm thinking he's teetering. Remember Burleson last year? Like you said, you can't make the team pushing the pedals.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Should be some really good practice sessions with the bills. This is a huge week for the Browns developmental wise. As long as its kept clean, its a huge win. This is the week where we get to play the best front in football. great test for our OL, for McCown and the pressure he will receive and for these RBs. Plus we know rex is gonna run the crap out of the ball and man what a great way for our run defense to get the work it needs.

5 Browns defensive observations against the Bills

Kevin Jones

Staff Writer

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Head coaches Rex Ryan and Mike Pettine called both of their respective football teams to the middle of the field and asked each player to take a knee.

The rules of engagement were laid out to the 180 players and right before breaking up onto the two fields at St. John Fisher College, Ryan quipped at recently signed linebacker IK Enemkpali, “No fighting!”

Let the fun begin.

1) The front seven responds to different practice setting

On the very first play of 11-on-11 between Buffalo’s offense and Cleveland’s defense, outside linebacker Paul Kruger busted through in pursuit and wrapped up quarterback Tyrod Taylor for the sack. The Bills’ offensive line is not a strong suit of their team and the Browns clearly took advantage. Buffalo was consistently pushed back and did not run the ball well during the joint practice session.

“Without a doubt: we are a much more physical defense this season up front,” linebacker Karlos Dansby said. “It really is a mindset, man, and our mindset has changed. We’ve dialed it up a little bit.”

2) Undermanned secondary has tough day

Two Pro Bowlers in Joe Haden and Tashaun Gipson and two up-and-coming players who will be counted on this season in K’Waun Williams and Pierre Desir watched practice from the sidelines, and their absences were too much to overcome. Buffalo put on a clinic in one-on-one drills and a red zone period, where three 20-yard passes were completed for touchdowns. Receivers Robert Woods and Andre Davis had big connections with quarterback Matt Cassel. Cornerback Justin Gilbert was on the receiving end of several Bills deep completions.

“That's the life of a corner,” Pettine said. “You have to have that short-term memory and be able to bounce back from a play. The best corners are confident corners and that's something that comes from having success and if he's in a little bit of a slump it’s on him. We have to help him, but he has to play his way out of it."

There is good news to report: The argument can be made Tramon Williams was the best player on the field Monday. Much more on him soon.

3) Danny Shelton helps Karlos Dansby play more effectively in the middle

Things are different for Karlos Dansby at inside linebacker this season. Some of it has to do with Year 2 in the system; some of it has to do with Danny Shelton’s arrival to the defensive line.

“Danny Shelton changes the math – he takes on two offensive linemen every time,” Dansby said. “Usually you get a one-on-one situation. But you have to put two people on him. If you put one guy on him, it’s going to be hard to get a first down if you do.”

Shelton’s rapid progression in training camp might be one of the biggest storylines coming into the regular season for the Browns: He changes how the defense matches up with the offense. Keep in mind, when you evaluate his rookie season, don’t just look at statistics. What Dansby is relaying is that Shelton’s strength in the middle of the defense is going to open up other Browns players to attack quarterbacks and running backs.

4) Bills skill players provide different test for Cleveland defense

Many around the league will argue Buffalo has some of the most explosive offensive weapons in the entire NFL: LeSean McCoy, Percy Harvin and Robert Woods. Even tight end Charles Clay can make defensive backs miss with his speed.

On the other hand, Cleveland’s offensive weapons are of a different mold with strength and finesse. Dwayne Bowe, Brian Hartline, Isaiah Crowell and Terrance West are different types of athletes than Buffalo’s because no team in the NFL carries players with identical skill sets.

“It was really good for us as a unit to see different speeds, different talents,” Dansby said. “This is a sure way to judge yourself, to measure yourself.

“I think the energy is that of a game-type speed, especially inside with the lines. To me, it is competing against somebody other than your own. You kind of get in a comfort zone when you are going against your own guys and you don’t get a good sense for where you stand.”

5) Other news and notes
•Undrafted rookie Dylan Wynn continues to impress on the field and with his work ethic. The first player on the field running laps on the track? Wynn. The last player off the field working on his pass rushing technique? Wynn. He wants a spot as bad as anyone in that locker room, and so far the extra work is being noticed.
•Defensive back Kendall James had two solid deflections in pass coverage. If Haden, Desir and Williams are held out Thursday against Buffalo at FirstEnergy Stadium, expect to see a ton of the first-year pro out of the University of Maine.
•Pettine wasn’t the only coach returning to St. John Fisher College. Defensive coordinator Jim O’Neil, defensive line coach Anthony Weaver, outside linebackers coach Brian Fleury and inside linebackers coach Chuck Driesbach all coached under Pettine during their 2013 season in Buffalo. The quartet of coaches was often seen hugging their former staff members with the Bills throughout the morning.

I think we can write off Justin taking Williams spot, but Desir still have an opportunity to beat out and earn the #2 CB spot. I suspect if it doesn't happen before season opener, Desir will claim that starting role overtime.

Pretty sure, barring injury, Tramon Williams is inked in as the #2 alongside Haden. He has had a really good camp and don't ever think his role was in question.

That's not to say Desir hasn't improved. He has but not enough to be the starter. I'd be shocked otherwise.

Even if Gilbert doesn't turn things around we still have a pretty good group of corners with Haden, Williams, and Williams. If you're fourth corner is a guy like Gilbert or Desir you are doing alright.

The thing that sucks is what we could have instead of Gilbert.

Bills lose backup linebacker to torn ACL; two receivers leave due to heat

Posted by Zac Jackson on August 17, 2015, 12:38 PM EDT

Bills wide receivers Chris Hogan and Marquise Goodwin left Monday’s practice with the Browns due to heat-related issues, Bills coach Rex Ryan said.

Goodwin collapsed on the sideline at one point, sending trainers scrambling to assist him. Ryan said after practice that he was told Goodwin and Hogan were feeling better and would be available for Tuesday’s Browns-Bills practices, which will be held in the evening and presumably in cooler conditions.

With Sammy Watkins also leaving the practice due to a sore glute, the Bills were left thin at receiver in a practice during which they also lost backup middle linebacker Ty Powell to a torn ACL.

“Terrible news,” Ryan said of Powell.

Rookie running back Karlos Williams woke up Monday morning “in a lot of pain,” Ryan said, and is in a local hospital. What exactly is ailing Williams isn’t yet known.

Monday was not a good day for Browns CB Justin Gilbert

Posted by Zac Jackson on August 17, 2015, 3:09 PM EDT

The Browns took to the practice field in Rochester with the Bills Monday missing half of their starting secondary; backup cornerbacks Pierre Desir and Robert Nelson were out, too.

So, 2014 first-round pick Justin Gilbert knew he was going to be busy. And Gilbert was apparently kept very busy by the Bills quarterbacks and wide receivers.

“Never seen such a rough day,” Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal tweeted.

The Browns expected to have a strong secondary — and still do — but are playing shorthanded right now; top corner Joe Haden and free safety Tashaun Gipson were out Monday. Early in camp, Desir played in front of Gilbert with the starting defense when Haden was given a veteran day off from practice.

These are important reps for Gilbert, whose rookie season included on-field struggles, multiple benchings for tardiness or maturity issues and Browns coach Mike Pettine and general manager Ray Farmer eventually saying Gilbert was dealing with “personal issues” in addition to trying to play catch up in his first NFL season.

Gilbert started last week’s preseason opener and was beaten badly by Redskins wide receiver Pierre Garcon on a deep ball that Garcon dropped. After the game Gilbert told reporters his technique was “flawless” during the game except for that play.

The Browns need Gilbert, the No. 8 pick in the 2014 draft, but had to sign veteran cornerback Tramon Williams in March because they can’t trust that he’s ready to produce.

“If he’s in a slump,” Pettine told reporters after Monday’s practice, “he has to play his way out of it.”

The Gilbert-related tweets out of Rochester were, um, something; CBS Sports collected a bunch of them. When a beat writer is keeping stats on how many times a certain cornerback is giving up plays in practice, that cornerback is probably not having a very good day.

“He’s good in the meeting room,” Pettine said of Gilbert. “He understands his mistakes. He wants to learn. He wants to get better.”

That Pettine made Gilbert and fellow 2014 first-rounder Johnny Manziel watch the 2014 season finale from the locker room summed up how the season went for both. Manziel appears rededicated to football, and though it’s far from certain he’ll ever be an NFL quarterback, he’s showing improvement.

Gilbert, however, has been a little short of flawless — and apparently has a long way to go.

5 observations of the Browns offense at Monday’s practice with Bills

Andrew Gribble

Senior Staff Writer

PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Day 1, from an on-field perspective, is in the books for those of us who write about the Browns, but it’s far from over for the players.

Meetings will be followed by a walk-through, and Day 2 will bring about a reverse of the schedule. The Browns and Bills will be back at it Tuesday evening at St. John Fisher College.

Here’s our look at what the Browns offense accomplished.

1) 3 WRs stand out in one-on-ones

In their first competitive drill against the Bills, the Browns had more incompletions than completions against a confident Buffalo secondary. At one point, Bills defensive backs coach Donnie Henderson instructed his group to eliminate some of the chatter.

Still, there were some positives for the Browns to take away from the drill, which was quarterbacked by Josh McCown and Thaddeus Lewis. Travis Benjamin, who has as been as consistent as anyone since the start of training camp, caught almost every pass thrown his way. The same went for Josh Lenz, who consistently beat his man across the middle, and Taylor Gabriel, who caught a couple of deep passes and also drew pass interference on one of the throws he wasn’t able to catch. Brian Hartline also showed some good hands in tight coverage.

“Me and McCown were exactly on the right page,” Benjamin said. “We just wanted to come out today against Buffalo and compete.”

This period was one of the more entertaining and engaging of the day, as the hundreds of fans cheered and groaned with each repetition.

2) Slow start, solid finish

The first 11-on-11 session didn’t result in much for the Browns offense, as the Bills broke through for a sack on the first play and limited Cleveland to little else. Johnny Manziel completed a couple of short passes but nothing that would have moved the chains. The session ended abruptly when Bills linebacker Ty Powell went down with an injury Bills coach Rex Ryan fears could be a torn ACL.

“The Bills defense I thought had the upper hand,” Pettine said. “I think some of our guys had different tempos. They have to understand the guy across from them is going at game-type speed, other than the live tackling part. We were inconsistent with our expectancy of what we were getting from the other side. I thought (Buffalo) did a good job. We made some plays.

“Unfortunately I thought some of the self-inflicted stuff that we have been able to avoid a lot at camp; jumping off-sides, two bad snaps that likely would have been positive would have been disastrous as a part of a drive. Very much looking forward to getting back and seeing what it looks like on the film.”

The second get-together was much more productive, as McCown hit Gabriel and Benjamin on long touchdown passes and the running game made some bigger holes for Isaiah Crowell and Terrance West. In the red zone portion of the drill, Manziel completed back-to-back short touchdown passes to tight end Rob Housler and wide receiver Darius Jennings.

“It was good to get a feel of it and we’ll make some adjustments,” McCown said. “It’s different than a game when you might not play that division opponent for three or four more weeks or six more weeks or ever again, some teams for a while. We’ll make our adjustments and come out and play. It’s kind of like baseball.”

3) Rookie watch

Offensive lineman Cameron Erving, who played at left tackle in Thursday’s preseason opener against Washington, played mostly with the second-team offensive line at right guard. He filled in for Joe Thomas on a few snaps with the first-team offensive line at left tackle.

Wide receiver Vince Mayle made a tough catch during a one-on-one drill that forced him to the ground. He was also on the receiving end of a bullet pass from Manziel during 7-on-7s, as Mayle fully extended to pluck the ball out of the air after getting a step or two on his defender. He rotated in with the ones near the end of practice.

Tight end E.J. Bibbs was on the receiving end of a couple of passes early in practice and got some work with the first-team offense during seven-on-sevens, another big step forward for the undrafted rookie who continues to impress.

“A lot of guys doubt themselves when they don’t get drafted,” Bibbs said Saturday. “That is not me. I just like working hard. My dad always taught me that. Just trying to go out there and make plays.”

4) Play of the day

Gabriel’s speed was tough for the Bills defensive backs to handle even when he simply running down the sidelines. On the Browns’ longest offensive play of the day, Gabriel shook his defender enough to generate at least 10 yards of space by the time he reached the end zone. McCown hit him in stride on one of the last non-red zone, 11-on-11 plays of practice.

5) Other observations

- Logistics of the setup at St. John Fisher College made navigating the practice field a bit tricky. The majority of practice saw the teams working on two separate fields that were separated by grandstands, making any eavesdropping onto the other field virtually impossible. Because of their inability to be in two places at once, Pettine and Ryan will be seeing a lot of today’s practice for the first time when they review the film. Pettine primarily watched the offense.

- WR Marlon Moore, RB Shaun Draughn and FB Malcolm Johnson wore non-contact jerseys throughout the practice. Draughn and Johnson were not used for 11-on-11 drills.

- RB Duke Johnson (hamstring) did not practice. OL Andrew McDonald returned.

AFC preseason player grades, Week 1.............> Link

Cleveland Browns: Justin Gilbert, CB

GRADE: B

Strengths: Gilbert is a sticky bump-and-run corner with impressive athleticism and ball skills. When he is instructed to play aggressive press coverage at the line of scrimmage, the former first-round draft pick flashes the potential to develop into an elite playmaker.

Weaknesses: A lack of discipline and concentration leads to big-play chances for the opponent. Pierre Garcon's drop on a deep pass from Robert Griffin III was the only thing that prevented the Redskins from cashing in on a mental mistake by the second-year pro on Thursday. Cleveland's coaches will certainly point out Gilbert's miscues when reviewing the tape with the team.

What he needs to work on: Gilbert has to build upon his impressive flashes with more consistent play throughout the game. While his ball skills and instincts lead to a few sizzle plays, the coaches need to see him continue to play disciplined football when he steps onto the field in Week 2.

Unfortunately for Gilbert many would say the weaknesses are greater than the strengths right now. Going "head case" last year may well cost him a chance at a more fruitful career.

Nearly zero chance of that.
Playing well wipes the slate clean... if he gets it together and grows into a solid player this year, all of last year is nothing but ancient history.

Browns is the Browns

"Playing well" is the source of debate as some would say that he fell too far behind and is still not in the right place mentally. ... yet?

This is what I look forward to most! I am really looking forward to Gabriel getting more reps and seeing his development in year 2. Last year I said he and Crowell were the best UDFAs we've had the fortunate of taking in a long time. Gabriel pans out in the long run, I'm a very happy fan!

DB Tramon Williams the standout player on Monday against the Bills

With Haden out, veteran takes on No. 1 CB role

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Buffalo Bills learned quickly Monday the Cleveland Browns have two capable No. 1 cornerbacks on the roster.

With Joe Haden (hamstring) watching from the sidelines in shorts, Tramon Williams stepped into the shutdown role and completely blanketed his side of the field. Passes were batted down, Buffalo wide receivers were outmanned with Williams’ technique in press coverage and the 32-year-old’s aggressive play pumped up his teammates to finish practice on strong note.

By the end of the practice session, Buffalo quarterbacks Tyrod Taylor, Matt Cassel and E.J. Manuel didn’t even bother looking Williams’ way.

“Anytime you step on the field you’ve got to feel like that, a No. 1 cornerback,” Williams said, drenched in sweat on the St. John Fisher College practice field. “Regardless of the situation, whoever they say in the No. 1 or the No. 2 guy, it doesn’t matter. Everyone is on the field at the same time. You’ve got to hold you own.”

Williams isn’t the only person in Cleveland saying he has the skills to defend any receiver in the league.

Back in March, when the Browns found out they were losing starting cornerback Buster Skrine, coach Mike Pettine pulled out his trusty old notebook – full of musings about hundreds of players in the league. When Pettine was with the Jets in 2010, the coach had seen film of the Green Bay Packers defensive back and was standing on the table for his team to sign the cornerback.

“When we watched him again this time, not much had changed,” Pettine said.

"That was a key signing for us to really stabilize that room. Anytime you can bring a veteran guy that's proven that he can play at a high level for a long time in this league. It's a great example for our young guys.”

Pettine has joked time and time again that when you play cornerback opposite of Haden, the forecasts on Sunday’s are cloudy with a chance of footballs. And that’s what they love about Williams – he wants passes thrown his way.

Entering his ninth season, Williams has 28 career interceptions, which ranks eighth on the NFL’s active list. So many times in his career, especially during Green Bay’s 2010 Super Bowl run, quarterbacks have paid the price trying to test Williams in coverage.

The Browns signed Williams first and foremost to be a key cog in the secondary. But his expertise didn’t hurt. Because he learned from Pro Bowlers Charles Woodson and Al Harris with the Packers, Williams thinks it’s his duty to pay things forward. So listen up closely, K’Waun Williams, Pierre Desir and Justin Gilbert.

“Pay attention to details. Once you get through that, you will find yourself doing some good things,” Williams said. “In (Gilbert’s) case, that’s some of the things I see. He is in good positon a lot of the times. He just has to figure out what it is and he will be better.”

Imagine if Williams keeps up this level play during the regular season. Imagine it teamed up with three other Pro Bowlers. You actually don’t have to imagine it because Williams has made it a reality this summer.

“I can't say enough good things about him,” Pettine said. “He's been the ultimate professional."

I think Tramon is underestimated here. Everyone typically wants to throw around age and then, without a second thought, start to write them off.

He should be a better version of Sheldon Brown, who was like... 31 or 32 when he came here. And he played pretty solid/above average here IMO.

I wonder if Gilbert might get cut. He has stunk thus far and seems dumber than a box of rocks.

Very Good analysis of what I saw at Bills/Browns duel practice by A Gribble. I only saw the offense as they were practicing simultaneously. Layout was different than itvwas 10+ years ago when I went to Pittsford(Butch Davis era) Travis Benjamin is freaking blazing fast and caught everything.Josh Mccowan threw some beautiful deep balls.Johnny looked ok, he seemed to stare down his target quite a bit.The ball did come out of his hands quickly and with good velocity. Taylor Gabriel looked great and smoked their #1corner Gilmore on more than 1 occasion. Their is a HUGE diffference between our 1st string Oline and the 2nd. PAINTER,Bowie,Seymour got their Butts kicked repeatedly and provided nothing. Our 1st string did well in pass pro but only average in my opinion in run blocking. Mitchell Scwartz looked pretty damn good as he was right in front of me, good kickslide and handplacement. ONLY 1 fight broke out and I think it was Hawkins on the far side of the field, he returned with no helmet on and appeared a little tired. The boys were were really getting after it, a lot of smack between our receivers and their Db,s.It was really HOT, 92, was happy when a small cloud came by. On another note, during warm drills I got a real good look at Phil Taylor,he seems to still be limping, I did not see the D play the actual scrimmage part, I hope he is ready for game 1. Overall experience was nice, brought wifey and my 2 little ones. ST John Fiher/ Pittsford area is really nice. Oak Hill(PGA) is only a few blocks away. I anticipate this set up will probably continue if Pettine and Ryan are both coaching. I only live about 1 hour 45 min from the area. Tickets were 75cents a piece through ticketmaster(yes cents). Well thats about it, it was a quick 2 hours, but fun. GO BROWNS

Thanks Rottweiller for the update. I keep hearing the national guys talk about the Browns dont have any fast guys and Gabriel and Benji may be two of the fastest guys in the league.

Has anyone heard anything (good or bad) about Armonty Bryant so far in camp? I feel like he's non-existent at this point. Is he nursing an injury or something? Did he play in against Washington?

At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

I don't see him on the "did not participate" list ..... but I haven't really heard much about most of the players on the DL thus far, except for Shelton, Cooper, Hughes, Meder and Dylan Wynn. (who might just win a spot on a deep DL.

He played Washington...I saw one play that stood out. Was either the DT/DE on the play (right beside Shelton, but I could have sworn he had a DE on the other side of him) Anyways Armonty exploded off the line, but tangled up and ended on the ground...The play was handoff to Matt Jones I believe. Didn't see anything else out of him. He's been real quiet, then again haven't heard much from others on the Dfront too (Desmond Bryant, Taylor, Winn) Winn should be back soon, who knows with Phil Taylor.
