let him earn a living doing something else like cleaning toilets. There is no reason scum like this should even be allowed to be a part of the NFL. Why? What's so special about the NFL? NFL Players are role models for children. Do you want this herpes having, dog torturing, drug addicted slimeball as a role model for your child?

NFL Players are role models for children. Do you want this herpes having, dog torturing, drug addicted slimeball as a role model for your child? Pro athletes should NEVER be role models for our children. Just watch any sports outlet. Suspensions are rampant for drug use, violence and all sorts of a variety of things that I would never propose my children to look up to. According to your theory, even Joe Haden was suspended for PED's. Now I don't disagree with you about Vick the person. I can't stand the guy. My last Pit Bull died a couple of years ago from cancer and I'm still not over it. I've had three Pit bulls during my lifetime. They were my babies and true family members. So while I can't stand the guy and certainly would not be happy if he were a Brown, I also won't begrudge him the right to make a living at his profession. IMO, he's most certainly a scum bag. But scum bags gotta eat too....

You might think Pro Athletes shouldn't be role models, but they most definitely are. How many kids grow up playing sports because they want to be like their favorite player?

Pro athletes should NEVER be role models for our children. Even players like Joe Thomas or Clay Matthews Jr.? I'll bring it back up again. What about Joe Haden? He was busted for PED's. Did you see that coming? What if you proposed that it was just fine for him to be a role model before the PED infraction? I think it's fine for a player to be a role model for how he plays the game. But all people are humans. As such, they are all prone to mistakes. Trying to place someone on a pedestal can be a very slippery slope.

You might think Pro Athletes shouldn't be role models, but they most definitely are. How many kids grow up playing sports because they want to be like their favorite player? Then it sounds as if you should be lobbying every pro sport in America. Which if you feel this strongly, I wouldn't blame you. But if you're going to follow a sport, or sports, that allow people a second chance in life, maybe you shouldn't be so offended when it happens? While I don't agree with athletes being role models, I do agree that people deserve a second chance. At some point you'll have to decide which to choose. Either you'll find giving these athletes a second chance in pro sports is okay, or you'll just have to accept that pro sports, and society in general believes in second chances. Maybe that's the bigger message our children should learn from this. That everybody deserves a second chance. Hmmmmm....

Back in 1989 I got a DWI.. Drove drunk more times then I could count.. Luckily I never killed anyone. I haven't had a drink since 1993..so should I still be looked at like a person that got drunk and got behind the wheel of a car? I think a lot of you self righteous people should look in the mirror.. We've all done things we've regretted.. I changed my life and as far as Vick goes, he appears too have also!

There lies the main difference! Where as you regret doing it I believe Vick only regrets is being caught! He would probably still be doing it had he not be caught.

So you'd be willing to give Charles Manson a second chance and work with him? Second chances right or just certain people?

He served his sentence. He got out of prison after serving his sentence. Has Manson served his sentence yet? If not, end of discussion.

So not a true second chance it's a conditional on who you think earned it? Just the beginnin g of the discussion!

Vick is a convicted felon out on Parole, right? I'm not sure, I was under the impression that he did his time, was on Parole for a while but is now off the hook. He has been released for what, 6 or 7 years now, I can't imagine he's still on parole.

No, it's not conditional on anything.
Vick served his sentence and was released from prison. Manson has not yet served his sentence. Period. End of discussion.
YOU brought manson into the discussion, and it was foolish.

Sounds to me like he didn't regret it until he got the DUI... sometimes it takes getting caught to realize how stupid it is to be doing what you are doing.

Where in that statement does it state only if they served their time and were released?
You in you bias are setting that "TIME SERVED RELEASED" condition. So is it EVERYBODY or CERTAIN PEOPLE deserve a second chance?

Folks like you are the reason people make a post and then have to write disclaimers...
Mass murderers don't deserve a second chance, Hitler wouldn't have deserved a second chance, Art Model didn't deserve a second chance...
But a lot of people do deserve a second chance..

Killing a dog is not murder, no matter how much some people want it to be.
And the model reference was a joke.. mass murderers, Hitler, Modell... Modell doesn't belong with them, neither does Vick.

Sorry dude, I'm about as unbiased as they come on ex cons. Serve the term the courts give you, come out after serving the sentence. That is your second chance.

You're trying very hard to twist things based solely on semantics.
How can one get a second chance in society and their profession while being in prison? How can the NFL give a player a second chance while they're still in prison?
If you wish to isolate a single comment in a thread without putting any of my other posts into context, you can play a semantics game.
Yet most posters who read the thread know I already pointed out that he served his sentence and paid his dues to society.
So yes it is "certain people" who deserve a second chance. It's those people who have served their time and are once again a part of our society. And I'm not saying we have to give them a second chance in our opinions of those people. But they do deserve to be able to work at their profession and be a part of society without sanctimonious and self righteous people trying to say otherwise.
That would not describe someone in prison.

How can the NFL give a player a second chance while they're still in prison? The same way Vick got it second chance release.

I disagree with you on that one. I worked in the meat industry, and they take good care of those animals. Most people don't know that if an animal is stressed before it's killed, the meat will have a different taste due to hormones that are released.

So what is the CEO of Tyson foods?
Does he do this? "Jumper cables were clipped onto the ears of underperforming dogs, then, just like with a car, the cables were connected to the terminals of car batteries before lifting and tossing the shamed dogs into the water."
She continued, "We don't know how many suffered this premeditated murder, but the damage to the pool walls tells a story. It seems that while they were scrambling to escape, they scratched and clawed at the pool liner and bit at the dented aluminum sides like a hungry dog on a tin can. If so yes!
