Solomon Wilcots just said on Browns radio network that after talking to coaches, Dwayne Bowe needs to deliver tonight to make roster

I'm not Solomon Wilcots, but so does Pryor.

That is very vague.

It would make me both happy and sad to see Bowe cut.

Happy because I don't think he's very good (him getting cut would prove that) and that guys are making the team because of their play and not their contracts.

Sad because our entire plan to upgrade at wide receiver consisted of signing Bowe and Hartline (I will admit that the plan might have been different, but we weren't able to get other guys. I just don't know).

The Browns signed Dwayne Bowe to a two-year deal last March that included $9 million guaranteed. That should, ahem, guarantee Bowe a roster spot despite the soon to be 31-year old wide receiver missing nearly three weeks of training camp with a sore hamstring and not catching a preseason pass from starting quarterback Josh McCown.

But the Browns have a crowded receiving corps despite not having a true No. 1 receiver, and entering Thursday night’s preseason finale there’s still some uncertainty as to which receivers will make the final roster.

Solomon Wilcots, who works for NFL Network but is paid by the Browns to call preseason games on Cleveland television, appeared on the team’s official pregame radio show Thursday afternoon and hinted that Bowe is not a lock to make the roster.

“He needs to deliver (tonight),” Wilcots said. “After talking to the coaches he needs to show up tonight to be a part of the 53-man roster (this weekend).”

Wilcots didn’t say which coaches to whom he’d spoken, but his words at very least make for an interesting discussion. The Browns also have a decision coming on Terrelle Pryor, who’s trying to transition from quarterback to wide receiver but has yet to play in a preseason game.

Pryor is supposed to play in the preseason finale, but Browns coach Mike Pettine said this week that Pryor doesn’t necessarily have to play to make the 53-man roster.

Brian Hartline, another veteran receiver acquired in the offseason, is going to make the team. Andrew Hawkins and return specialist Travis Benjamin are going to make the team, too. Second-year receiver Taylor Gabriel and Bowe probably make the team, but fourth-round rookie Vince Mayle has had a tough camp.

Pryor is the wildcard and Marlon Moore is listed as a wide receiver but last year was a core special teams player. So, that’s eight players for six or seven spots — and seven probably only make it if Moore makes it.

The Browns earlier this week released defensive tackle Phil Taylor despite Taylor having more than $5.4 million guaranteed. Taylor had offseason knee surgery and might not be healthy enough to play this season.

Another expensive cut seems unlikely, but what Wilcots said at least adds a little intrigue to Thursday night’s preseason finale and the roster moves that will come in the 30 or so hours that follow.

That article is just a bunch of information we already know, built around the same vague Wilcots quote.

What does need to deliver mean? Does it mean he needs to have a bunch of catches? Run good routes? Stay healthy? Catch a TD? Have over a certain amount of years?

It's probably happened a lot.

If Bowe gets cuts I'm sure some will blame it on Alex Smith and the Chiefs offense from last year.
But really the fact of the matter is Bowe is like T Rich..very close to being out of the NFL.
The skills that made him good 7,8 years ago is gone.
He's just a big body who can't seperate and he's not the smartest WR.
he got by on being able to have decent speed body positioning and natural talent.
but smarts no.

Let the story of Matt Barkley serve as a warning to those with high draft grades going back to school. Was virtually guaranteed to be the #1 pick after his junior year but went back to try for a national title. Didn't come close and had a down year costing him millions. Same can be said for Landry Jones and Brett Hundley

(I agree with your overall point, but just wanted to get that in there before someone else. Matt Leinart is another guy who waited one year too long.)

The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to terms with free-agent running back Fred Jackson on 1-year deal, a source tells ESPN Insider Adam Schefter.

Jackson, 34, was released by the Bills after averaging a career low 3.7 yards per carry last season, but his 66 catches were a career high.

Marshawn Lynch and Jackson have a great relationship from their days in Buffalo, but Carroll said that doesn't have anything to do with the team's interest.

"Only in that I know that Marshawn and he are very good friends and they get along and that's always a good thing," Carroll said. "But other than that, that didn't feed into this. He's just a heck of a football player that might be able to find a role. Depends on how things are going. We've gotta check and see how we're doing on our injuries and stuff."

Turbin is a very athletic and explosive player ... I wouldn't be opposed to picking him up and PUPing him

Seahawks waived/injured RB Robert Turbin.

Marshawn Lynch's primary backup the past two seasons, Turbin has an ankle injury that will cost him five weeks, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

It sounds like a high ankle sprain, potentially with ligament damage. RapSheet suggests Turbin could be claimed off waivers, though he didn't put anything positive on tape this preseason, decreasing the odds he is. If Turbin is not claimed, he will head to the Seahawks' injured reserve list. The Seahawks will enter the season with Fred Jackson as Lynch's clear-cut backup. They are reportedly shopping Christine Michael in trade talks, and would like to keep UDFA Thomas Rawls.

I reposted this because of 2 comments in the rotoworld anaylysis.

1 - The way they say: if he isn't claimed on waivers then he will end up on the Seahawks IR list. Does that mean if we do claim him that we could not put him on PUP? Why would the Seahawks waive him then put him on IR if not claimed? Why wouldn't they just put him on IR?

2 - Christine Micheal is on the trade block. I don't know much about him. Don't remember him from college and haven't seen much of him in the NFL but the past 2 years the fantsy football world was all abuzz about him. Thinking he would surpass Turbin for the #2 role and be the main guy if Lynch would have gotten injured. There was even worry that he would eat into Lynch's touches, esp on passing downs. Though that never seemed to materialize. Anybody know enough about him to comment on him?

If anybody is interested in a bigger-bodied, productive WR or a bruising, 266 lb, lead-blocking FB who can catch the ball, the Giants cuts WR James Jones (6-1, 200) and FB Henry Hynoski (6-1, 266).

Isn't Hynoski one of the top FBs in the league...I wouldn't mind him...James Jones is like Bowe, only a ton more cheaper

I had a feeling they would try to get him.

There's that, plus Jones actually had 6 TD receptions last year.

for anyone who wanted Holloman from Louisville, the Steelers cut him today. He's not even good enough for their terrible secondary.

I get the feeling that a bunch of the Browns players are not happy with Bowe being retained and Lenz being cut. I know they realize the financial situation of the entire thing with Bowe's 9m guaranteed, but it really seems like they weren't happy with Bowe half-assing the entire training camp. That dude better show up this season.

It will be interesting when Mayle makes the team lol
