The reason I keep 4 TE's is because we have been running quiet a bit of 2 TE sets and I am a big fan of TE's especially in the redzone. When things get more compact, their ability to pop someone and then slip into the pattern is golden.

I understand the importance of having bigger WRs, but if we keep Bowe over Lenz then I'll never buy the "Play Like a Brown" motto ever again (not that I did anyways)

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I think they'll keep an extra WR (7/8) before an extra TE(4)

last stab at it. Pullard was the toughest cut for me. Billy Winn has played really well the past 3 games, especially last night. To me, he was clearly our best DL yesterday.

Looks good. The only one I would switch would be Pryor and Bowe. But we probably don't want to pay out all that money like we did with Phil.

IDK...Bowe simply can't get away from press coverage. I know Pryor is a project but at least he can back up McCown and hand the ball off if needed. Pullard would be a very tough cut.

Did Billy Winn even play in the 2nd preseason game against the Lions. I thought that he did not, as he only returned to practice on the 16th, and the game was on the 20th.

While stats never tell the whole story, I can't remember Winn ever really standing out this preseason, and as far as I can see, he had only 1 tackle and 1 assist in the 2 or 3 games he played in, and I really don't remember him standing out at all..

general reply.

I don't know why Marlon Moore or Billy Winn "have" to make the team.

And I think it's harder to assume that Hayes Pullard makes the team, than that he doesn't.

And Hawkins or Gabriel being cut? It could happen, they cut Jordy Nelson, (no that's not his name) Nelson someone? Jordan Norwood? ...
They cut Jordan Norwood just a couple years ago.

And if they could cut Jordan Norwood in favor of guys who didn't have the catches or stats he had from the previous season, then they could cut either Hawkins or Gabriel.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Jordan Norwood had 405 yards in two years (his second and third years). Taylor Gabriel had 621 yards last year (his rookie year). Andrew Hawkins had 824 yards.

You guys argue too much. brownie

Look, both sides have good points:

--the smaller guys are better than the bigger guys

--you do need a mix of smaller and bigger guys

Why not leave it at that?

CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) – The final week of the preseason is gut-wrenching around the NFL, including in Berea where the Browns will have to decide the fate of the 75 players that remain.

There are a lot of tough questions that general manager Ray Farmer, head coach Mike Pettine and their staffs will need to ask and answer in the next 24 hours or so.

After giving him $9 million guaranteed, does Dwayne Bowe actually have enough left in the tank to contribute this season? Do they keep 7 or 8 receivers? Can they afford to keep 4 running backs? Can they get by with Johnny Manziel’s aching elbow early in the season or do they have to bring in another QB to back up Josh McCown costing them a valuable roster spot? Do they keep Travis Coons or cut him and pick up a kicker off the waiver wire?

If money and draft status were not in play, Bowe along with second year corner Justin Gilbert would not make this team. Here’s how we think the initial 53-man roster and depth chart will shake out at 4 p.m. Saturday.

I just saw to much of a half ass effort from Bowe to see him on a roster. One more thing i forgot, Hayes Pullard has been a real steal for us and there is no way he doesnt make this team. I just dont see it.

I understand that Carder is a pretty good special teamer, but I keep the guy (Pullard) that can play downs one through three and try to teach him to play special teams. We know Carder stinks as a linebacker.

We don't have to cut a Lb to keep Pullard. The most vulnerable guy on that 53 man roster is Draughns. If Duke is healthy for the opener, I don't think we keep 4 RB and a FB

WHat happened to the Rb Winston? He didn't make the roster you modified to get to 53. Did he get cut? IR'd, PUP'd?

Thanks, I missed that. I knew he had recent arthroscopic surgery on his knee and hadn't participated in camp yet. I had high hopes for him. Hopefully he recovers completely and comes back with a vengeance next year and surprises us all.

First 53 in the books. Who is on the bubble to get knocked off now?

I think that the offensive guys who made it thus far will stick...only real cut option there is Moore and maybe Pryor IMO.

Carder, Moore, Bademosi?

Who goes for McDonald to get back on?

We need another RB...I bet we've already got a guy waiting in the wings.

Terrelle Pryor, Terrance West, Bill Winn survive Browns cut to 53
Sep 05, 2015 -- 4:40pm

The Terrelle Pryor experiment will extend into the regular season.

The former Ohio State quarterback-turned-receiver made the Browns’ 53-man roster on Saturday without having a single pass thrown to him in the four preseason games.

Pryor’s roster spot came at the expense of young, untested receivers Josh Lenz, Darrius Jennings and Vince Mayle.

Mayle, a fourth-round pick in the 2015 and the only receiver GM Ray Farmer has drafted in the last two years, was waived. So was linebacker Hayes Pullard, a seventh-round pick in the past draft.

Other notable cuts by the Browns:

* Quarterbacks Thad Lewis and Pat Devlin. Those moves temporarily left the Browns with only Josh McCown and Johnny Manziel at the sport’s most crucial position.

* Running back Shaun Draughn. After rampant rumors the Browns were trying to trade Terrance West, they opted to dump the veteran Draughn.

* Offensive linemen Karim Barton, Erle Ladson, Andrew McDonald, Darrian Miller and Vinston Painter. Those moves left the Browns with only six offensive linemen on the 53-man roster.

* Defensive linemen Dylan Wynn and Jacobbi McDaniel. These meant Billy Winn survived.

At least for now.

The Browns are expected to make several waiver pickups over the course of the next 48 hours as GM Ray Farmer tries to squeeze in final transactions before he takes a four-week leave. Farmer’s NFL suspension begins at 12:01 a.m. Monday. His chief lieutenant, Bill Kuharich, will replace Farmer during the suspension.

So we're two injuries on the OL away from having to play, who exactly at guard? Billy Winn? I hope we are scouring the wire for some depth there.

Pullard should have been rostered over Carder.

Any O-Lineman cuts you guys find interesting?

I can't see us sticking at only 6 linemen. The McDonald thing seems kind of weird to me. Saying you're going to practice squad him then bring him back to the 53 later is almost begging for someone else to grab him.

j/c:

I know the roster will evolve, so one or two of my points might not mean much, but here are my thoughts on the final 53:

--Carder being kept over Pullard is a shame. Pullard might not have great 40 times, but he has good instincts, reads very well, and gets through the gaps. I really liked him.

--Bowe and Pryor making it over Lenz sends the wrong message for a team that wants its players to "play like a Brown." Lenz is very shifty. Elusive. Catches well. Plays hard.

--I still think cutting Kitchen was a mistake.

--Surprised at only having 6 o-linemen, but that will most likely change quickly. Besides, our backup guys on the line were garbage all preseason.

--Not sure why we "need" 4 tight ends and a FB??? Hopefully, that changes.

--I would like to add another OLB who can play special teams and drop a guy like Bademosi.

j/c...

I love the final roster - definitely wish they would expand the roster to 65 heck 60.

Lenz - I don't understand the fuss. Yes he was well liked and played hard. hopefully he will land on our PS. Basically we kept Pryor of him. I would make that move all day long.

4 TE and FB Glad nobody got cut. We are going to see a lot of 2 TE sets.

OL just 6 is unusual we will add a couple to our PS I'm sure...if we add one to our Roster...I think Carder goes.

If Mingo comes to bat and plays up a level - I can see Solomon being on the bubble I thought he had a pretty bad Preseason but don't know from practices.

My favorite was the little WR Wynn. I would have kept him over Lenz if it came down to the two.

Benjamin had a great training camp and Preseason. I actually like him. I've seen him play scared and then toughen up. Last season was his comeback from knee surgery season. He looked more to 2013 form. Glad he made it.

Bowe...who knows, I know I don't. Got to leave that decision up to the Coaches. I don't think Money had anything to do with it. He still could be on the bubble if we add a roster player or two.

I'd rather have Pryor than Bowe if it comes down to it.

Can someone explain to me why we cut certain players, in this case say Mcdonald (OL), only to keep certain players, maybe Carder (LB). Then talk about bringing back Mcdonald and having to cut someone else. What's the point? If you want or need to keep someone then why not just keep them? Eo, your a pretty sharp guy, got any ideas? Please share.

I believe you made some excellent points.

One I'd like to make is about the OL. There's no way we enter the season as it stands on the OL. What I find odd is those who seem so surprised by it at this point.

We all knew we were in bad shape with the depth we had. We knew those players were terrible and many voiced that opinion. I do not find it surprising at all that our FO and coaching staff believe they can actually upgrade the depth we had with cuts by other teams that had better OL depth.

I understand that some are a little upset by Lenz being cut, yet I don't see how anyone can compare or criticize keeping Players like Bowe and Pryor instead. People seem to indicate that since better players were injured, they should be cut instead. Had both Pryor and Bowe had a complete training camp and pre season and played badly, I could understand this. But it seems to me that many posters are trying to compare things we never saw.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Well, it didn't take long for the Browns to add another OL to the roster and sign one to the PS.

Agreed Pitt,

Every year after final cuts we always make a couple of changes so I find it hard to believe we will start the year with just six Olinemen.

As for Lenz I understand he had a good preseason but he also had stays with both Seattle and Indy and neither team thought he was worth keeping on the active roster and neither team was exactly loaded at WR. Also, while neither showed it during the Preseason games both Bowe and Pryor got raves during camp at times from both the media and other players but in Bowe's case the look at the lack of TDs last year and figure he is washed up even though the stats show he was hardly thrown to inside the red-zone and from what I can find it looks like he was only thrown to twice in the end zone all year. (one pass was knocked down by a Dlineman and another deflected by a DB).

Oh wait, you don't need to. The information about Patzsor is already on the Cuts thread.

I guess receivers can not catch a ball outside the end zone and run it in?

being a browns fan is like taking your dog to vet every week to be put down...
