It was a continuation of specific Browns roster moves. Refs can move it if they want. Your extremely important input is noted.

It is possible but you do realize that in a Run first short controlled passing game like the Chiefs run that's not gonna happen all that often. Alex Smith only threw 18 tds last year and only 2 were longer then 20 yds and both were to RBs who broke it for long runs.

pblack, Bowe may well be washed up, but I hate it that people are dismissing him because of the fact that he had 0 tds last year when they don't know the facts about why he had 0 tds. Some of it may be on him but a lot of it had to do Alex Smith and the offense the Chiefs ran last year.

The fuss about Lenz is nearly all from the Agenda posters who just want to rail against Farmer no matter what he does... I'd rather keep TP with a fantastically high ceiling than Lenz who is a solid guy who did great but is never going to be more than your 4th-5th or 6th WR.

When I saw we kept Housler and Bibbs - I thought the same thing. LOTS of 2TE sets, maybe with Bibbs and Splitting out into the slot quite a bit?

I'd need to see more from Bowe and TP before making that call ... we have not seen enough of either to know what we have - I'm glad we are keeping both and I hope Bowe does as well as Austin did for us when he came in and was more than solid.

888...you do realize, it was Farmer who signed Lenz to a free agent contract after the Colts released him on May 20, 2015?

..don't know if the "agenda" comment applies in his case.

I think many, me included, released that Lenz did a pretty good job for the Browns in the preseason

We have four wide receivers that have to play over Lenz (Gabriel, Hartline, Hawkins, and Benjamin) and one who wasn't getting cut no matter what (Bowe). Even if we kept Lenz, where/when does he play?

I like what Lenz did - but it's preseason and he did it against 3rd and 4th stringers. . . but the very vocal support for Lenz that I have seen on this board was HIGHLY critical of Farmer if we were going to let him go - and now they are critical of Farmer for the decision. The fact that Farmer found and brought him in should indeed be a credit to farmer. But from everything I have seen the agenda driven don't or won't give Farmer any credit for anything ... I think many would agree that we've got one of the strongest rosters if not the strongest roster since 1999 - but instead of giving Farmer any kudos for doing this in 2 years, all I see is selective sniping. It gets old.

Maybe not all those that are criticizing this decision are Farmer haters - but some are for sure.

Carder being kept over Pullard is a shame. Pullard might not have great 40 times, but he has good instincts, reads very well, and gets through the gaps. I really liked him.

Carder is one of 3 special teams core players, along with Bademosi and Moore.

Pullard will almost certainly make the practice squad.

If it came down strictly to LB play, there is no way I would have kept Carder. None. He has never impressed me as a LB. However he does do a really nice job on special teams. I still wonder if he is 100% safe though.

Quote:
-Bowe and Pryor making it over Lenz sends the wrong message for a team that wants its players to "play like a Brown." Lenz is very shifty. Elusive. Catches well. Plays hard.

Lenz is an interesting preseason player, but he lacks the speed and/or size to set him apart as a regular season type player. He has no growth left in him. If we needed a slot guy today, we might have kept him, but we have Hawkins here, and Hartline can also play the slot. Lenz lacks the speed to be able to play on the outside. I also don't remember him blocking much in the preseason. (though I could have just missed it)

He is our 3rd or 4th slot guy. (and I know that he played on the outside against 4th stingers, but he's not going to play there in a regular season game) Those guys usually don't make the team. He played his heart out, but there really just wasn't a spot for him.

Pryor is a very interesting project, with massive upside. He showed enough that he would have been claimed if the team has waived him. He also showed a willingness to play all out on special teams.

Bowe got the same treatment this year that Miles Austin got last year. I am willing to give that one to the coach's discretion. Bowe has a track record, both good, and some bad, but he also has a heavily guaranteed contract, so anyone who expected him to be gone was fooling themselves.

Quote:
--Surprised at only having 6 o-linemen, but that will most likely change quickly. Besides, our backup guys on the line were garbage all preseason.

We'll have 8 OL in no time flat. I would guess that we will make a move either at DL or OLB and add a pair of
OL. We added one guy to our practice squad who is reportedly going to be back on the main roster by mid-week. We also claimed a guy from a Jags today. That will give us 8.

Quote:
--Not sure why we "need" 4 tight ends and a FB??? Hopefully, that changes.

Bibbs also could be a candidate to go to waivers and the practice squad once the squads are set around the league.

Quote:
I would like to add another OLB who can play special teams and drop a guy like Bademosi.

Bademosi is our best special teams player, and possibly the best gunner in the NFL. (I can't think of a better one) If we want special teams to help win games, he's not going anywhere.

I still think cutting Kitchen was a mistake.

I like Kitchen probably more than almost anyone on the board. I was saying that I thought he could be a plus guy way back when we got him. Unfortunately, when Meder came on like he did, Kitchen became an odd man out. He was going to be the 4th NT at that point, behind Shelton, Hughes, and Meder ..... and we weren't going to keep 4 NT. I actually think that they did him a favor by putting him out there early.

I have no agenda and frankly don't care who our GM/coach are ... I just know that Lenz seemed to be our most consistent offensive threat (I do know it was against crap). Plus, when his veteran teammates vouch for him, I know he deserved it.

Do I really care? No. Will this really add wins/losses to our record? No.

Former Jaguar has 23 career starts

The Cleveland Browns on Sunday claimed OL Austin Pasztor (pronounced PAZ-tor) via waivers from Jacksonville and traded RB Terrance West to Tennessee for a 2016 conditional draft pick. General Manager Ray Farmer made the announcement.
Pasztor is 6-7, 308-pounds and in his third NFL season out of Virginia. Originally signed by Minnesota as an undrafted free agent in 2012, Pasztor has appeared in 26 games with the Jaguars. He has started 23 career games with three starts at left guard and 20 at right tackle. Pasztor started eight games at right tackle last season. Born in Tillonsburg, Ontario, Pasztor attended Fork Union Military Academy.
West rushed for 673 yards with four touchdowns in 14 games as a rookie last season.

It could be that we want other teams to set their practice squads so we can look around and see what players might still be available in free agency, and what needs other teams have before we expose a player to waivers to go on the practice squad. Say it is between cutting a guy like Billy Winn, or waiving a guy like Bibbs with the idea of signing him to the practice squad. It gives the team a chance to survey the landscape.

I'm vindicated haha ... but honestly, I thought it was a matter of time before he was gone. At least we presumably got a 7th rounder for him

That's a low blow. You can't develop someone who does not wish to be developed. For whatever reason he really did not want to be here. So see Ya!

Wasn't there something last year about West being a lifelong Ravens fan and him really wanting to be a Raven ?

Ok, that makes sense. I'm getting over my mad about Lenz, as reading somethings on here about who do we cut to make room? I can see keeping Bowe and Pryor for all the reasons stated elsewhere. Feel bad for the guy but Go! Browns!

I see it as a good move. I don't think West is bad, but I think his demeanor didn't sit well with the staff. I think this lets Crowell get the carries he deserves. Him and Duke should be a nice combo. But they better get a back-up in here. Two back ain't going to cut it.

Plus we bring in a back-up OL with starting experience.

I don't know what the problem was, I would think it is rare to draft two players who just don't care and only want the money. Whatever happened, Happened in the first year with both of them. I can guess since it was the Browns that drafted them they thought they would just come in and start and to heck with working for it, and that turned out to be not true. And they were Offended. My guess.

I think Bibbs has been assured that he's a Brown no matter what ... Housler may be on the move IMO. Gives us another spot to sign a 3rd RB now
