It's Tuesday of the week before our opener. I can't remember being less excited about watching the Browns accept for Shurmur's second year as a coach.

I don't get the sense that a lot of people are real excited about this upcoming season and opener.

So, are you guys excited or not?

Just like last year, I'll have tempered enthusiasm. I'm excited but need to see the W's on the field before I get truly excited.

We started out as we normally do, we lost the opener and struggled against divisional opponents. As the season progressed, especially after beating the Steelers, I became incredibly excited, but then the trap door opened with the loss to the Colts and it swallowed me whole.

If we had a QB, I could see us going 5-0 or 4-1 to start the season. However, we don't have one, so we'll probably go 1-4 or 2-3.

I try not to let it get to me, it's just another Browns season. This is supposed to be entertaining, win or lose. We aren't entitled to win a Super Bowl. Plus, I know the Cavs and Blackhawks will be starting soon.

I want to be but I'm not.. Once again I have the Get excited to be disappointed feeling.. Sad thing actually.

I went up to the Cleveland Air show Sunday and parked where Columbus and the group tailgate.. There were no changes there.. I was expecting some since the yellow lot passes have become difficult to get.

I looked at the Stadium and my friend said... Well it won't be long and you'll be coming up here to your favorite place to be .. I bet your excited.. I just looked at her and said... I'm not sure how I feel.. It's a lot of money to spend.. And the thought of another losing season makes me ill.

I ran into the head attendant for the yellow lot and I asked him why is it so difficult to get the passes.. He told me it shouldn't be a problem getting them.. That they will actually be allowing cash customers to enter after 11:00 am.

It kind of frustrated me thinking how much of a hassle everything is starting to get around the place..

So Vers I guess im more cautious then excited as of this moment... I hope as game day nears I start to get the excitement back.

I love watching football. I watched multiple games on Thursday and Saturday. Watched another on Friday. I was so jacked for thee Ohio State game last night.

I'm watching Ohio State w/my two kids and we're going crazy on almost every play. It's so fun. Even getting really angry at the bad plays is kinda fun, because there is so much energy involved. You're really living and dying w/the team. There is so much energy, passion, and raw emotion.

Then, I look at the bottom of the screen and see that Browns OL coach has been suspended for alleged assault.

What a freaking downer. All the Browns give us is negative news and false bravado: Play like a Brown. rolleyes

Just this week, the Browns are in the news for Farmer beginning his suspension, our 3rd round pick of last year being called out by the team and traded for almost nothing, and then an alleged assault by one of our coaches.

But hey...........we did raise ticket prices.

<<sigh>>

I'm looking forward to it, but not all giddy. Like someone else said, if I had more faith in our QBs I might be excited.
They have to start winning, I'm worn out by years of incompetence and losing.

I'm excited! Simply for the sheer fact that football season is starting.

I will go to the sports bar to watch the browns, and then they will ruin it for me. Lol

My goal this year is to watch every game, but man, it will be difficult. Losing really sucks after a while.

I will live vicariously through Ohio State and the Cavs.

yeah, I am... but then every new season gets me excited.

I like playing it ( flag for old guys like me), I like coaching / teaching it, I like watching it youth, HS, college and pros.

The Browns have been my team my entire life and I look forward to every season, every game, I relish the wins and lament the losses but neither to the point that it makes or breaks my day or week... after all its just a game, a game I have no control over.

Excited because I see improvement, finally.

But even more exciting is that one game a year, I get to enjoy the company of may son as we travel 1000 miles to a game... win or lose you cant beat that and since he goes to college next year this may be our last for a few years.

I imagine I will be one of the few on this thread this is excited, but who really cares... bring on the JETS

I'm always excited but the last 10 years or so it is cautionary. I am over 50 years old and as a kid would pretend in my back yard that Mike Phipps was leading us to the Super Bowl, Steve Holden was catching his deep bombs. (I was delusional even at 10 years old)
I still try to envision our current players "improving" and taking us further than I expect.

I know my hopes may not be realistic but I love the Browns although I have only been to about 6 or 7 games at the stadium in my life. I would love to see them play in the Super Bowl in my lifetime. They would not even have to win, just play in it.

So yes, I am excited but know it may not turn out well.

To add: if we beat the Jets, my excitement level will be ratcheted up. It would make next week a lot sweeter.

Thinking Phipps was going to lead us to the Super Bowl really was delusional. LOL

Just busting your chops, man. We're from the same generation.

I know where you are coming from. I remember the Marty years. I loved that guy. People were dissing him and complaining he couldn't win the big game. I told them they should be thankful that we were even in that position.

Those days were so much fun. The feeling of hope was amazing. It was contagious. I remember being in a bar and Elway's pic comes up on the TV screen. The entire bar [which was packed] started chanting: "Elway Sucks! Elway Sucks!" LOL

I just wish we could be respectable again and not hear the constant negative news that comes out of Berea.

Nope. Not excited. I'm having a hard time not looking at useless mock drafts already.

Of course, the last time I lacked enthusiasm this badly was going into the 10 win season w/ D.A.

Vers, kind of odd question seems you're excited, but telling yourself you can't! You've depressed yourself thinking of all the negative, or tired seeing Cleveland play like...starting low Browns can't disappoint!

Myself I'm stoked season starts Sunday. I get together with a bunch of football fanatics! Every year I hope somehow Cleveland catches a break. To stay semi sane, I treat every Sunday as a new beginning! If I still lived in Cleveland, I'd be the nutcase who buys season tickets every year!

I normally don't get disappointed until Browns are eliminated from the playoffs. It's a sign season is ending, and I face reality seeing how far team has to go. It's discouraging when owner gives up deciding to redo. You know five year clock restarts.

Excited for football yes...being a die hard Browns fan that gives you that disgusted hate in your heart...I guess I'm excited for that too haha

Can't say our team will do really well or that we will be entertaining...but nothing that I can do about that. Sad thing is II always hope a change will happen and we will have a superb off season (FA signings, draft class, assemble of coaches) I'm always left saddened and to the point I know the season will play the season out as it always does...a sub par team that can't get things right.

Always felt by the way we draft we should just let our team trade our 1-4 round picks for established studs...when using the late round picks to kind those depth/ role players or perhaps a gem every blue moon.

You can bet your ass I am excited. I am ready to watch Browns football. Part of it is it has been a long hot summer, so I am way ready for cooler temps. I can't wait for the Steelers game Jan 3rd when it might be 4 degrees. Bring it is my attitude.

I want a winner as much as anybody, but I don't let not winning interfere with my excitement. As a fan, I can't help it. In each year, there are 16 Gamedays, and each one is like Christmas Day for me. I love it, and that's no crap. During those 16 Gamedays, the Browns is what I do.

So Hell yeah, I am ready. I don't let winning and losing come between my love for the Browns. They will have my money for season tickets for as long as it is possible for me to attend at least 4 games a year. I do 6 now. My health will be the only thing that prevents me from supporting them in person. I can't imagine not supporting them and showing up when my team plays

To add, to me it is like being married. Nope, my wife isn't the girl I married. She is older, heavier, and less attractive, but I love her more now then I did then, even if none of that can be said for me...lol

So with the Browns, I saw some championship seasons, and clearly want more, but I can't kick them to the curb for any reason. Too many reasons not.

I love Browns football. What is the saying, "hope springs eternal"? That is how I approach the season.

I like a lot of moves we made on defense, and think that the additions on the DL, Shelton, Cooper, Starks, and Meder .... and the potential Orchard has, a return to health for Mingo ..... adding Solomon to the lineup ..... getting Gipson back, and I like what I saw out of Campbell that gives me hope when we play the 3 Safety defense that Pettine likes so much ......and I like Williams more than Skrine ..... so I think we upgraded there .....

On offense, we have our OL back to full strength .... and hopefully we don't need to test our depth. (though I do think that we should be in better shape there than last year) I think that receiver is an interesting position, with 2 guys in Gabriel and Benjamin poised to take huge steps forward this season. RB is a concern ...especially depth .... but I like this Malcolm Johnson kid, and think that he is going to be a weapon .... and while we don't have Cameron sitting on the sidelines injured this year ..... we do have competence in that room. It will be kind of interesting to see which players are active and inactive for this game.

On defense .... at .....

DL, are Meder or Winn active? Both? Neither?

LB .. are Mingo and/or Orchard active?

DB, Gilbert, Desir, active or not?

On Offense ... at ......

QB ..... Is Manziel ready to go, and does that make Davis inactive .. or is Manziel out?

RB .... Is Johnson ready to go, or does the team make room for Draughn?

WR ... I would guess that at least 2 are inactive. Pryor is probably one for now. Bowe maybe the other?

TE .... 1 is probably inactive ... if not gone in favor of Draughn. Is it Bibbs, or Housler?

OL ..... I would think that all 7 will be active, and we will probably look to make a move to add McDonald to the active roster.

If we add Draughn and McDonald to the roster, we will have to make decisions on 2 other players. Maybe we keep McDonald on the PS for this week, and go with 7 OL for this game. Gonna be interesting.

Man, I am always amped up fr the start of the season! I can't wait to get going!

Woof! Woof! Woof! Woof!

More nervous than excited... because I have literally no idea what to expect.

There have been a few select years where I had very high hopes and was over-the-top excited... other years I had lower expectations but was really hoping for solid growth so I had tempered excitement... some years I didn't expect much from the team but there were still individual players I was excited to see...

this year is different.... I think we have enough talent to be decent and I'm kind of getting tired of just rooting for "growth" but based on roller coaster preseason, I have no idea what I am going to see....

Yes, but I understand why you feel the way you do.

I hang with my kids and yell stupid stuff at the TV. We have fun whether the Browns lose or win.

I started to get excited last year for the first time since '07 when we hit 7-3. But what happens? We lose to the Bills and it's all downhill from there.

Just a cruel reminder to keep expectations low when following this team and enjoy fantasy football, beer and wings. I am excited for those things. smile

I am a Browns fan, I have been for as long as I remember. I sat in front of a black and white tv with my dad watching the '64 championship game, screaming for Frank Ryan, Gary Collins and Jim Brown. I also remember being heartsick when the news came out that Jim Brown was retiring to make movies, but I continued to watch.. and be faithful to my Browns. Being a Browns fan always meant something to me. I even named my dog Sipe. I wore my Jackets.. my # 19 and # 32 jerseys even after Modell moved his team to Baltimore. I still watch and care about my Browns.

I live in Bengal country, but I was a Browns fan before there were any Bengals and unlike many of my friends I remained loyal to the Browns. I joined this board to talk football with other Browns fans. I wanted to learn more about the day to day life of a Pro football team. I learned a lot about football and about the diverse feelings other Browns fans feel for the team. I can honestly say that I do not recall any Bengals fans I know, ever being as down on their team, as Browns fans are today about this year's team.. and the Bengals had some horrible years between 1994 - 2010. Maybe it is the social media age we now live in. Maybe there is such as thing as too much information.

I'm excited for football and for the Browns. I want to see some games and enjoy my team... win or lose. We all need something.. a place .. a people.. a team to call home. My team is the Browns.

Always.

From the days before Internet watching late at night as a teen, catching the Browns when they were quality. Missing a team for a few years and then years and years of suckitude where the Browns programming were sometimes rescheduled because as the presenter said "this one has blowout all over it" and they'd change the damn game they would broadcast.

All those years I relied on this board and threads like "what I saw" to fill in and paint a picture. Now these days I have NFL game pass and even when we are so damn bad, I never take the games or the season for granted because the alternative is so much worse. We are tied for the division. Bring it!

Last year, we had 3 different season ticket holders in my office. Me, my Dad, and one co-worker. This year we have one, my Dad.

I couldn't justify the ticket price increase considering I went to one game last year. And by the end of the year, I literally could not give my tickets away.

I went to a preseason game this year, and while I at first thought "I'm going to miss this", as soon as I started hearing other fans, got awful concession stand service, and paid way too much for parking, I said "I'm not going to miss this."

I was always a glass half-full kind of guy with this team. I bought into what the front office was selling and tried to stay positive. After last year, something just kind of disappeared for me. I actually could not sleep for a couple days after that Colts game when, if Whitner could have just made the tackle near the goal line, we win that game. It still makes me kind of sick to my stomach.

After that, I just couldn't get excited anymore. I watched the rest of the games, but I'd DVR them and watch them at night in fast forward. Once the game ended, I'd delete it and go back to reruns of the Golden Girls.

This offseason, I followed the team a bit, but nowhere near how much I had in the past.

I watched the draft, but not that intently.

I followed training camp, but only peripherally.

I watched or listened to the preseason games and usually just came away from those laughing (still wish I had played the Dwayne Bowe drinking game during the 4th preseason game where you drink every time they talked about Bowe. I'd still be drunk).

I'm going to watch the game Sunday, but I'm almost feeling a sense of dread more than I am excitement. Hopefully that changes before Sunday, but I'm not sure right now. In the past, I'd feel down on Monday and Tuesday, but by Wednesday, I'd be getting pumped and by Saturday, I'd be almost giddy. I don't feel that now.

Just because we've been awful in the past doesn't mean we'll be awful again. I get that. But Lord, I've been telling myself that for years and things haven't changed.

So, very long answer to your very short question. "Excited" isn't the right word for me. It's more of a feeling like when you have to move a washing machine or a sleeper sofa up three flights of stairs. It's something that has to be done, but you know it's going to be awful the whole time you're doing it and you're going to feel terrible for days afterwards.

Oh it's going to last all season long. It's Cleveland Browns football damn it. If you can't get excited about that then your either to damn old or to damn grumpy. There is no other sport that gets me as excited as football and if it's not the Cleveland Browns then it's not football. Live, laugh, and love. I can do all three while watching a Browns game.

J/C Vers. Hit the wrong quick reply. Anywhoos, Yup. I am very excited. I really do not care for any other sports. so the off season is a very long one for me. I am a life long Browns fan. I am always excited at the start of every game. But I will remain very skeptical and aloof when I feel things heading south. We all can usually call it like clockwork when it starts to happen. We should all be weather forecasters. smirk I expect the team to perform as well as the beginning of last season. Setting myself up for disappointment, maybe. But WAY better than ever jumping ship to route for another team or even starting a hashtag campaign to ask the team to lose on purpose before a game is even played. SMH. I may be angry and irrational. But I am loyal to a fault. GO BROWNS! Woof.

Einstein could not even fathom the mathematical improbabilities of the Browns woes.

Hell yeah I'm always excited about a new season. Go Brown's!
