Just a silly question but have we ever drafted someone in the 3rd that was worth a damn?

I agree with you, but at least it is refreshing that it seems we don't stick with mistakes. To me, that is worse then picking the wrong guy.

I guess I look at it differently than most. IMO if you pluck 2 starters a draft, you have done at least a good job. Both Bitonio and Kirksey are solid players. That said, I would like to see some excellent and great drafts where we pick some real difference makers at the top. We haven't done that since the Joe Haden pick

Back to RB who are available, 2 names that really interest me are Gray and Ball. (2 guys I have a hard time believing are still on the market)

I think Gray might have a rep as a bit of a knucklehead. Belichick buried him on the bench when he showed up late for practice during the week after he ran for 200 yds and scored 3 TDs. Ball had injury issues last year, but I think he's okay now. He was great at Wisky, I know that.

This is how I feel. If you get 3-4 contributors and 2 of them are starters, you had a rock solid draft. Fairly or unfairly your drafts get judged based on 1st rounders. I honestly don't feel it's relevant after the 3rd round who gets picked. Percentages say those guys are very unlikely to contribute.

Steven Jackson in the mentor/pass blocker role maybe?

I'm not sure what we're doing.

Ray Rice or Pierre Thomas after week one maybe to avoid the guarantees.

Yeah, Ball was tremendous at Wisconsin.

Now that you mention that about Gray it does ring a bell. I would guess that dropping one knucklehead for another would probably not be on the agenda.

I believe he could be effective as more of a change of pace back, rather than the main guy.

I'd be a big fan of signing Ray Rice, as a running back, his major problem was overuse, and taking the lsat year off should help with that. He's only 28 now, and would be the most skilled RB in our backfield by far.

Maybe Crowell answered the call from Montgomery about being more accountable and taking the job? Maybe we feel good about him and Duke as the tandem

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

TJ Ward comes to mind. Nope. 2nd rounder.

Only answer is Daylon McCutcheon really.

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/cle/draft.htm

The Browns have had a surprising number of drafts without a 3rd rounder.

John Hughes seems alright but not necessarily a world beater.

John Hughes is probably our best DL against the run. (until Shelton proves he is better, anyway)

Yup. I have no problems with Hughes. Good for a 3rd rounder for sure.

Daylon was quite a snag for where he was drafted. Either that or I overvalue him, but he was consistent for a long time here.

RB Shaun Draughn practicing w/o cast. Logical callup from PS if Duke Johnson continues concussion protocol.

No Kidding !

West was not that good - has a bad attitude or is immature depending on how you want to look at it - flashed some, but danced more.

Kudos to Farmer for owning his mistake and letting the guy go. Of course it adds fuel to the Farmer haters - but lets be honest - in the last 15 years how many times have we seem the Browns hold on to draft picks 'just because' ... fastest way to fixing a problem and putting it right is admitting you have a problem. While there are some big ??? on Farmer's drafts - [1] It's still too early to know what we have (people saying Cameron is bust after 4 preseason games and him on a team with one of the best OL's in the NFL are simply mind boggling) [2] I am really very happy to see Farmer make tough decisions that potentially put him in a bad light.

Then why haven't we dumped Dilbert? He had a much worse attitude than West. Gilberts attitude was so bad they made him watch the final came from the lockerroom. Now THAT's being an idiot. And it's not like he's an awesome player. He's so bad we had to sign a free agent to play opposite Haden. We might get some team to bite on a change of scenery helping. Might get a 4th rounder out of it. Better than nothing. Oh wait.... this years fourth WAS nothing. West is just the tip of the iceberg. Farmer has not impressed so far. ONE starter out of FOUR first round picks? OUCH!

Tate went elsewhere to and didn't last. Perhaps issues with both of their attitudes.

What really stands out is Joe Thomas saying he wasn't all that surprised he was shipped out. Looks like a new environment is what's best for us and actually what's best for West too. Maybe he'll pull his head outta his arse and that loud thunderous pop strikes some maturity into him.

Tate didnt actually endear himself in the RB room. His early comments saying he didn't see any competition for him on the team made me initially think he was an ass. As much as I wanted to like him, and I did due to his playing history, it was hard to think he'd fit in.

I think Malcomb Johnson would play FB in front of Bibbs before playing HB before Bibbs... JMHO. AND obviously if you meant Duke Johnson you would be correct.

The reason I think this is that Bibbs is much more explosive with the ball and the much better athelete... again jmo.

Report: Browns have spoken to Montee Ball
Posted by Josh Alper on September 9, 2015, 6:25 PM EDT
Denver Broncos practice in the new field house at Dove Valley Getty Images

The Browns got running back Duke Johnson back at practice on Wednesday and coach Mike Pettine said that he is fully cleared after a concussion and could play “a significant role” on Sunday if he practices well the rest of the week.

Even with Johnson in the lineup, the Browns only have two tailbacks on their current 53-man roster and were talking about adding a player at the position even before they traded Terrance West to the Titans. The recently released Montee Ball could be part of that discussion.

Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the Browns have spoken to Ball since he became a free agent after clearing waivers earlier this week. Cabot reports several other teams have also been in contact with the former Bronco, who was a second-round pick in 2013, and that it is “uncertain” where he’ll land.

The Browns passed on a chance to claim Ball in time to have him at practice this week, as did any other team that might have interest. That suggests Ball may remain on the market through Week One, which may bring injuries or other developments that land him with a new team.

A fly sweep is a variation of an endaround. He just runs in front of the QB instead of behind him.

I guess we could run the Wildcat, but that hasn't worked for awhile now.

Wait a second here.

A second round pick is no longer with his team just two years after he was drafted?

We don't have a qb. We could have had one, but we chose to draft JM.
